Over the last couple years a whole new class of bike has evolved and most are available for sale here right now in Pattaya. Today I'll go around town and showcase this new class, which I believe is not only designed for everyday use, but priced to be very popular options here in Pattaya and elsewhere

Same with me. I was considering a Royal Enfield Hunter, but then stumbled upon this bike and said...this is the one. Royal Enfields are under powered and I found it a little bulky.

I dunno, but for me around town I think a good scooter beats em all. Love the under-seat lockable storage big enough for 2 helmets, and the hook for grocery bags. I've hauled so much crappola on a scooter that I could never fit on a 400cc bike.

Absolutely agree plus a lot less thinking about shifting, down shifting, clutch control and maneuverability. Scooters are definitely the better choice in se asia.

Although I'm buying me a Speed 400, I have to say that my wife's new Click 160 is quite quick and very utilitarian. I have a couple other smaller bikes too for the quick around town trips.

Very true the scooters are ideal for Thailand no need for anything bigger manoeuvrability is the key

I’ve got to agree. My Forza gets me around the city quite nimbly, and with its under seat space and a top box, I can do all my grocery shopping etc. The bonus is I can use it on Thailand’s excellent and extensive freeway network to travel all over the country with enough power and stability to feel confident out there at 90 to 100 kph among the trucks and cars. Not having to worry about what gear I’m in allows me to focus more upon what the infamous Thai drivers are doing on the road around me.
@bobjuniel8683
@bobjuniel8683 Ай бұрын
In Pattaya all one needs is a 160cc CVT twist and go no gear changes scooter. They are light and easy around town, carry baggage under the seat and in a top box, provide some weather protection, and there are service centres in every town. While these scooters can reach 115 to 120kph they are more suited to the maximum highway speed of 90kph. In Pattaya 80kph is the maximum speed limit. Motorcycles are banned on the freeways. For a rider used to gears and wanting to relive the past these Triumphs look like a good deal. They remind me of my youth in the 1950s. "Living the dream."

I've got a 2019 Kawasaki Z400 here in Australia, it was my first bike and while it's great for everyday riding and I've taken it on some dirt roads ok, the suspension doesn't have that much travel. Also the seat height is low but the pegs are not so it's a bit cramped. Also the seat is very thin and hard and being the same as the Ninja 400 it tilts forward too much. I'll probably get something a bit larger next with a more off road flavour, but nothing too large and heavy. Last time in Thailand I rented a Yamaha Aerox 155 scooter and found that great for traveling, it felt stable on the highway and could do 110 at a push so keeping up with cars but was also very manoeuvrable and easy to ride. So much better than the 125cc scooters I've ridden. It was also fun in the corners.

Very nice and well put together video. Some people don't need the biggest and most expensive. My junior year in college , I had just gotten marroed. Working my way through, I had about a 12 mile drive to work. I bought a used 50CC Yamaha. It did not go fast but cheap reliable transportation. Rain was a problem so my last year I bought a Nash with very little floor board and two seats. Could not wait to graduate and get out of it. You brought back memories!

I thoroughly enjoyed your latest video, thanks Lucas. I’m presently in the market for a new bike (just arrived back in the LOS, now living in Huai Yai Chonburi). I’m curious as to why you seem to favor the (admittedly pretty cool) scrambler type over larger scooters like the Forza and X-Max for town and day trips. Trying to collect food for thought on what kind of wheels to get…. 😀

Ive had a Svartpilen 401 for a couple of years now. Great little bike for all the reasons you've given, although the ground clearance limits what you can do with it. The Triumph 400cc is going to be a big seller in the world and seems a very nice design with the analogue speedo. The Triumph 400cc is a good price in Thailand at 157,500 baht when the Honda CB300R is 155,200 baht. I think you are over estimating the future sales of this Triumph 400cc in Thailand as the Honda CB300R has not been a great seller and has been available since late 2017. Harley Davidson sales are going to continue to fall as it is generally bought by oldies and they are a dying breed. The Yamaha SR400 is too expensive in Thailand. Honda are talking about releasing a 4 cylinder 400cc motorbike in late 2024. That would be interesting.

On the Harley 440 thing/ the heavy duty frame could be a blessing for the motorcycle/ not for performance but for survival of the motorcycle/ it would really be a "neg, to have the frame bend on the wonderful Indian Road System. The brand must maintain the image of quality for even simple things like a frame strong enough for what Indian Riders will Ride daily. **on the general popularity In Japan, there is a Discount for under 400cc, (399.9 etc.) so people pay less to have the 400cc class motorcycle or smaller, not sure how all the costs are for the USA, but Allstate is only charging me around $150 for the year on my Kawasaki Versys X300. **in business classes we try to mention "total cost of ownership" just classic to check on all costs.

How were the vibrations on the Triumph 400 single? My first bike was an updated Rebel 300 (same motor as the honda 300's in your video), and it vibrated like paint mixer at the hardware store. Good for in town stuff, but at higher rpm, it was bad. It had to go. So I'd be concerned about vibrations with the Triumph. As a daily driver in Pattaya, I would just get a scooter. For longer trips, perhaps a parallel twin for smoothness.

I didn't go out on the road at speed, just around their grounds, but didn't feel much vibration through the bars or pegs. Fairly nimble at low speed and did not feel heavy, that was the big thing I was looking for.

Great video we all like and connect to a bike video. For me, as an england uk resident triumph first and second honda for reliability. 600cc is the sweet Spot. And if you have the money, a 900 is the dream.
