Well when i do have some big intervals on 80-90% for 20-30 minutes you have to flip a switch on your mind. You have to enter pain mode, no matter what. You have to focus on breathing, pedal technique just flip a switch. For me it was so difficult in the beginning. Started a training program with a coach, flipped the switch and 5 months later i am -6kgs body weight and +32 on ftp. From 3.9 watt/kg in ftp to 4.7 watts/kg. Focus, pain mode, be consistent, see results. don't quit, but BE reasonable. Always listen to your body, not your mind. Excellent video

The pain of regret is what always keeps me going and keeps me from quitting. The pain will soon be over but the pain of regret can last a long time. I'd rather attempt and fail than not attempt at all.

Great episode Charles! I’m glad you talked about/shared the part on having the right mindset and how much that plays into it…. IMO, I don’t think that’s a subject that gets a lot of airtime in this sport - and it should… the 20+ “ef u Zach” was hilarious, but I felt that… 😂😂😂🙌🏽

You guys doing just sugar and water? Or adding anything? I’ve found bulk Gatorade powder works well too and Is cheap. You just do big scoops. I wanna mess around with sugar more.

That climbing technique I learned yesterday?!?! That’s not really how the learning process works. I teach climbing technique, I’m happy if my riders make it autonomous after 2 months of practice.
@CharlesOuimet
@CharlesOuimet Жыл бұрын
Yes that's how it works when you finally understand how to applied force better.
@edsassler
@edsassler Жыл бұрын
@@CharlesOuimet no, but it’s how people think it works, but the learning process has the same three steps for every motor skill you learn. The cognitive stage: where your coaches explained how it should work. The associative stage: (where you really are) where you transfer what you know should happen to actual movement. It only works under controlled efforts, tends to fall apart at higher intensity. The autonomous stage: (where you think you are) it takes no mental effort, it’s second nature. I applaud your series of videos because they challenge the most common assumptions - “I already know how to pedal a bike”, and they get lots of views (I made a video explaining why people use the wrong muscle groups in the pedal stroke, it gets around 40 views/year). It shows an actual learning process, which in cycling is lacking on KZbin. And then it fails… Anyone who knows cycling knows the term Marginal Gains. You filmed yourself climbing to see where there was room for improvement - that was a significant gain. Next you assumed you have learned it, and all gains made from improving technique stopped.
