It turns out that while normally level headed and respectable, when he gets a gun in his hand he goes berserk and as crazy as his cousin Rocky. That is why he reacted to Rocky handing him the Tommy gun like a recovering alcoholic to being offered a shot of whiskey.

It's not that he goes crazy when he has a gun in his hand, he said he has absolutely zero respect for life at that point. In all honesty that is the way most people should be. If you forced me to draw my gun in the first place I'm not going to hesitate to put you down. Look at the second time in the comics when he gets the Tommy gun. He's cool and collected but when he sees the targets that he's going to have to kill he immediately gets focused. The reason he laughs is because Rocky told him to. It's a way to help him vent the adrenaline.

In defense of these characters missing so many shots, most of them aren't actually aiming. For the Browning Automatic Rifle and the Tommy Gun, they're machine guns, which for those not professionally trained in firearm usage is basically just accuracy by volume, hence why they're just hipfiring. Plus those guns aren't necessarily rthe most accurate to begin with, especially if they've only got iron sights. Mordecai seems to be the only one actually trained in marksmanship, keeping cool to line up his shot, and then firing. Which, had Rocky not yanked the wheel in time, that would've been a headshot. For the pistol exchange between Mordecai and Freckle, Freckle's pocket pistol is horribly innacurate given its small size and lack of decent sights. Mordecai on the other hand didn't have a good moment to line up a shot until Freckle ran out of ammo, but even then Mordecai chose not to take his time to line up his shot. Instead Mordecai opted to be quick and catch freckle off guard, not giving him time to run or find cover, which wasn't a bad call, because he would've been able to kill Freckle had Rocky not showed up. All in all, it's a fairly believable gunfight all things considered. That being said, there's also a decent implication that Mordecai doesn't actually want to kill them. Obviously he didn't want to kill Pepper, so maybe he was holding back against Freckle? He was ready to straight up dome Rocky however.

"All that buildup, just for it to do nothing?!?" Something I don't see many people catch is the reflection of Mordecai's glasses. When it zooms in like that, his glasses show the target he's aiming for. He was aiming for Rocky and, had they not veered the car at that exact moment, he would've hit him straight through the brain. We don't know why Mordecai didn't take the shot when he was aiming at Ivy the second time. That'll probably be explained in the future, however.

I didn't know of Lackadaisy until the kickstarter for the animation came out. I would like to catch up on the comic sometime. Not that I want to be a stickler, and I certainly can be wrong but I am not so sure if this show has Helluva show vibes per say, I think people lumped that in because there are former staff that work for Helluva now working for Lackadaisy and Viv congratulated the shows success because she liked the animation and knew some of the crew. This is just what I gathered from following fans thoughts of the show. Also the line work in the animation was intentional. It got wild people mixed on why it was there, like it or don't like it, the Lackadaisy crew had to tell Twitter it was intentional to show they are moving drawings because there was so much harping on it at first.

Intentional or not, animation mistakes do get made. I didn't know the lines were intentional at first but I didn't care too much.

I just noticed that, sinse Mordecai used to have a relationship with the 3 main characters, when he was about to shoot their car, he was looking straight at Rocky and shot it without thinking twice, but later when he was gonna shoot it again, he couldn't cause he was looking straight at Pepper. I didn't read the comics (yet) and i have no knowledge about this series other than the pilot, so i imagine this is already explained there, but it's nice to see these little details about the story that weren't explained yet for the ppl unaware of the comic.

A little comment about the gunfights. Mordecai and Freckle were the only one actually aiming. Serafine didn't hit anywere beacuse she was just blasting around for fun. I think they should show this in history class for when you learn about the Prohibition Era, cus it actually gives you some perspective on what things were actually like during that period of time, and in the comic you see even more, like how bootleggers smuggle booze into the speakeasy, and the struggles of trying to keep your bars and pubs in business while trying to avoid getting caught by the police, how the !920's was once known as the Party Era, I don't know, I always found the Roaring 20's to be quite interesting and I think history teachers should consider watching Lackadaisy for that reason. it's an important part of history.

Gonna be honest here, 90% of actual gunfights that are between people in gangs and whatnot involve alot of missed shots. Unless they spend money out of pocket to train they cant hit the broad side of a barn from 3 yards, and as someone who's worked in law enforcement I can vouch for how bad a shot most people are. During range week of training I watched about 60 people fail to hit the target with around 45-50 rounds in the course of fire and over 20 are from 10 yards to 3 yards, and at 3 yards with you punching the gun out you are about 4 feet away from the targets and they still couldnt hit the damn paper.

I honestly don't like comparing Lackadaisy to Helluva Boss. Yes, they have a VA and a few artists/animators in the same shows, but they are COMPLETELY different themes. Not to mention, Helluva Boss is geared towards adults. Lackadaisy feels it is more geared towards teens and up. I have read the comics and the comics came out BEFORE Helluva Boss was even a thing. So, comparing the two feels like it is dragging them both down from what they really are. I just love Lackadaisy a whole bunch and read the whole comic before the pilot came out! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, though, and will respect such. I am just giving my own. 😊

I’ve been waiting for Nux to watch Lackadaisy. I absolutely adore the Pilot and the Comics! I feel like I relate to Rocky the Most, especially when it comes to his love of Poetry, Music and Art. That and explosives and maniacal laughter. The moment I heard Rocky’s Serenade to the Mississippi River I felt my Heart Melt! The Pilot and the Comics have inspired me to return to Art so that I can hone my skills and bring my own Creations and Projects to life. It’s also inspired me to begin searching for auditions so I can work as a Voice Actor. I really really really hope Lackadaisy gets its own series, and honestly with how good the Pilot and the Comics are it deserves one. I’m so excited for the Future! 😻

For those curious, the line art you see that would make up the characters' designs, simple circles and lines, is on purpose by the animators. They wanted to invoke the way hand drawn and inked animation was made back then, which would include productions like 101 Dalmatians, or Betty Boop shorts, which would have a few frames where you'd see the line art of the characters rough sketches. This was something you'd spot for only a few seconds in old cartoons. You don't see that roughness pop up in cartoons today, as it's all very clean.

Actually the Browning Automatic Rifle or BAR wasn’t made for accuracy, but as a lightweight weight Machine Gun that could be shouldered by a single person and even be fired while on the move as to provide a moving Suppressing covering firing for “Dough Boys” as they advanced across No Man’s Land towards the German Trenches. And once in them the BAR could be used to mowed down groups of Germans.
