Sometimes, you forget the deep, philosophical moments hidden in Destiny 2. Given the themes and nature of its universe, this layer of philosophy isn’t too surprising though. The Final Shape, after all, is viewed by some to be the end of everything, so life doesn’t exist and continue just to suffer upon being destroyed by a meteor, or die upon the sun exploding. Why suffer when everything can just end? To exist is to suffer, in the effort to continue existing. That’s the philosophy of the Witness and it’s Final Shape. But, pain and hardship, that’s what makes life what it is. Without pain or strife to know where alive, and can challenge the odds aginst us, how is that living? The same goes for Madara in Naruto. He’d wished for everyone to never know pain, achieving this by keeping humanity in a state of constant, mental catharsis, a coma or dream they couldn’t wake up from, trapped in a stasis of bliss and joy, without despair or pain. But, a paradise like that cannot exist, because human nature, the mind, cannot accept such paradise if built on a lie. Pain, strife, hardship, as much as they hurt, they are needed in our lives. It’s a necessary, cruel truth. But, sometimes that’s better than a sweet lie.

Didn't expect such a large comment. But yeah I also really live how the Hive in Destiny represent the Armstrong from MGR where the idea is that the strong rule over the weak. So that you get stronger by defeating others and thus prove your right of existence. I really like the lore surrounding this Hive philosophy. Destiny has such interesting and expansive lore that you can just loose yourself in it which I love. Edit: another thing that has done that well is For Honor. Apolleon was such a great villain in such a badly written story. She saw the world as a place where the strong terrorize the weak because they cannot best themselves against the strong. So she made war, became the war in order to create a world where her worldview would also thrive. Even after her death she managed to get the factions to fight, so that the strong can fight each other and don't have to let it out on the weak, as they would supply them. Such an interesting concept

Surely they appreciate life more right? Here's a hint: they would trade their suffering and struggle for yours in a heartbeat. But what's the limit you ask? The real question is who decides the limit of what one should suffer and struggle through? Sounds like a job for a cruel man or a god with all the time in the world. As for your Madara example, he wanted to use an illusion of of course it would eventually fail that's just simple long term thinkihng. But when a legitimate, totally not fake, literal Deus Ex Machina solution appears right before you then it is oibjectively the wrong answer to not take it The whole "struggle gives life meaning" is just the evolutionary cope that your brain developed when it realized how powerless you were to stop the environment and predators from easily killing you. In a more poetic sense, It's Adam and Eve trying to justify to themsleves why getting kicked out Eden was a good thing despite 2 seconds of thinking making you realize it isn't

I was confused about the x on the door for the chess piece guy, but if you look it's actually a dark chess piece. The one still around is white. So one has two faces in probably two personalities we just keep seeing the sad one. One apparently has super speed probably due to being a rabbit. One can survive complete disassembly of their body. One can fly and is omnipotent apart from mind control and swearing. I'm curious if they will all have certain abilities. No superhero like things but subtle ability drops that would make them behave in different manners when addressing the same problem.

I don't think they have any wacky abilities other than "silly cartoon physics and logic", Zooble is just a potatoman amalgam of wacky shapes, Jax hasn't demonstrated any super speed except as a cartoon-logic gag (and then is later shown running at a normal pace _and_ out of breath), Gangle is coping with the situation by putting on a (literal) mask and, without it, is just constantly breaking down into tears (everyone else is coping in their own ways too, Ragatha is being poisonously optimistic, Jax is antagonizing other people for fun, Kinger is dissociating to avoid really dealing with anything...) And Caine is (probably) an AI in control of (some of) the virtual world, (probably) not a human trapped in there

Cain and Bubble are AI's for the game, and he is a ringmaster so he is there to put on a show for the player, and has found himself with humans stuck INSIDE his game. No idea how to actually get them out he does his best to take care of them but, he is just a AI for entertainment so he does what he can but not really understanding what a person actually needs. And with no actual 'player' those stuck inside are the 'player characters' for his game and his antics as he does his best for them. TLDR Cain is good but has no idea how to properly care for his humans. He does his best though.

pomni is definitely different from the rest. 1. her name. "pomni" in russian means "remember", which in itself is proof enough, but the fact that when she went through the exit doors and eventually stumbled across the computer, she seemed to remember something(?) or at least made some sort of connection there 2. in the exit rooms scene & lights. when pomni is running through the seemingly endless exit rooms, the lighting remains relatively stable. but when she sees the computer and starts to go a bit insane, the lights start going crazy, and only then can she enter the void. it might just be for cinematic effect, but idk. 3. exits. shes literally like the only one who can see the exits (besides kaufmo--possibly.) she has to be connected to the digital circus on a deeper level than the rest.

I think the exits just didn't show up in anyone else's face, Kaufmo definitely saw it and Caine's gaslighting about it (he never finished the fun Exit-Themed Adventure for them, after all) and the actual intense desire to leave, drove Kaufmo utterly insane, and he abstracted. I also think the exit rooms scene was just artistic representation of her having a mental breakdown I think Kaufmo's abstraction and Pomni's appearance are linked in some way, though

My Fan Theory: The characters (Except for Caine) are actually AI constructs made by scanning the minds of whoever put on the headset. The reason they can't remember their name is that nobody is always thinking about their own name all the time. Their only "REAL" memory is of putting on the headset. Since they need memories to stabililze their personalities, they need the "Adventures" to build up their own memories. If they go unstable, they turn into the shoggoth looking things.

As far as I can tell, Caine has no ill intentions, he just wants to make the most of his situation just as much as everyone else. Sure, he's more powerful but he seems just as trapped as everyone else. He talks about trying to make an exit but "was having trouble figuring out what to put on the other side." The way I interpret that line is that he'd set everyone free if he could but his power only extends as far as the limits of the digital circus so the best he can do is make a fake exit to give everyone a little hope, and even then he couldn't come up with something that would satisfy them. His wackiness is just his coping mechanism in the same way that Jax's jackassishness is his coping mechanism. Jax said he's been there for years, Kinger even longer, and the abstracted people longer still, so how long has Caine been trapped here? I also don't think he's responsible for bringing people to the circus since he's surprised as Pomni's appearance. Anyway that's just what I think, and my guess is as good as anyone's.

I watched this earlier with my friends and one of them said that if we were represented by characters here, I’d be Jax. I didn’t know what he was talking abt before watching the pilot (duh) but afterwards it’s pretty spot on. It’s a constant serotonin overload that you have no choice but to do since there is nothing ELSE to do. It would get to the point where you just end up asking what’s the point, and then go insane. Too much of *anything* is never healthy, even if it’s fun in the beginning. Plus just the fact you were stripped of your last life + identity with no recollection would be earth shattering, no matter how it was. If anyone wanting to know the gist of this plot. I think this is HEAVILY based on "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison. This is a some sort of post-apocalyptic science fiction and is set in a future where an all-powerful supercomputer, AM, has exterminated all of humanity except for five individuals, whom it torments endlessly, both physically and psychologically, as a form of sadistic punishment. The story also delves into themes of human suffering, fatal flaws of each characters, insanity, paranoia, consciousness, and the limits of artificial intelligence.
