The 850, has the heavier hammer impact, the 840 has the faster ipm rating. I think the upcoming 887 xr replacement. (Probably next year.). Will combine the faster IPM of the 840 with the heavier impact hammer of the 850 or 887 and get something that can be top performing impact driver in the market, for a little while at least. Also that Juan C guy, probably just got lucky with his guess or something lol.

In one way I will say that when it comes to Dewalt impact driver the pro category is Dewalt XR 877 and Dewalt atomic 850 are on the top of the line know they cannot beat flex quick abject and Milwaukee m18 fuel but same rate as Makita but when it comes hammer drill the dewalt X-r and flexvolt advantage are #1 in drills then comes Makita XTG and #3 comes Milwaukee #4 comes rigid, ryobi hp one +

I got two of these sets that include the two batteries and bag. One for me and one for my brother. We are pool techs and I’ve always used a regular old wrench to open my filters to clean them. My boss always used Dewalt so I got two of these DCF840s like I said. They work perfect for pool filters. I’ve used them to dig holes at my local lake to dig in my fishing poles. It is a great drill for your everyday joe. Bigger batteries give you more power but the little black batteries they come with get it done for me.

The Flex is holding its own. If they had more in the line it could be more interesting. The 840 for the price and what you get looks pretty solid. Personally I prefer more bells and whistles with speed settings and specialized settings like the xdt16 over the variable speed trigger.

@FyrFytr998

I’m gonna reserve judgment until DeWalt drops their newest full size 3 speed Impact that uses the newer Power Stack batteries. The 840 is a good start, and the 850’s size gets the fans of black and yellow motivated. At the end of the day though, these are just the beginning of the next generation of DeWalt’s line. You’ll know they’ve peaked once the full sizes with Blue Tooth hit the market. I highly doubt they are gonna put all their eggs in the Atomic basket.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 2 жыл бұрын
I agree -- although they've certainly invested a lot in the Atomic line recently with the 921 and 923 impact wrenches and the 850 impact. I'm surprised there's no atomic 5-3/8" circ saw to correspond to the Xtreme 12V circ over at Lowe's.

They let us down with the 845… but I don’t know if they were necessarily shooting for something more powerful than what already exists considering the # they chose for this one. Still, they put the xr logo on it and it can’t outcompete the 840 except on specific tests… Zzzzz
@joshuasutton2163
@joshuasutton2163 2 жыл бұрын
I think I’d go with the 850 personally. It’s already slightly more powerful than my 887, it’s way more compact and it has the same speed selector. I may end up getting the new xr, but let’s be honest, in order to spank the m18 fuel and the flex you would need an impact power with simply ridiculous power, and I’m not looking for that. We’ll see what Dewalt comes out with but I’m liking the looks of the 850. On a side note Jim, your videos have come a long way in a short time, I think you have the ratio of intro to testing as well as editing all the testing together down perfectly. It’s very easy to watch and compare the different tools. Great work.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Joshua! And yes at some point you don't need an impact that can snap off socket adapters because they're so powerful. I do wish the 840 had some mode options. It's so similar physically to the Xtreme 12V, they could have just included the same mode selector on top. But I think they were targeting the aggressive price point.

How is the 840 for delicate work and how does it compare to the Milwaukee brushless non-fuel impact?
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 2 жыл бұрын
It's like any impact without modes, it relies on your trigger control to successfully do delicate tasks. The trigger on this one is pretty good, fortunately. I would say it's very comparable in performance to the non-fuel, maybe even a hair better. But the Dewalt is noticably smaller and lighter.

by doing them in the same growth ring you THINK you're more accurate on your test... the 2nd and 3rd lags inherently both benefit incrementally from the concept of displacement and as a result will have an incrementally easier time driving the lags as the number of holes increase in that growth ring. you need to leave a lag in each previous hole to attain a more even playing field

In my own opinion agree with me or not but the way I see these new DeWalt impact drivers especially their newer ones is that I found something there. The old Atomic DCF809 is a Brush Less Version also the DCF787 is a brushless version of the old DCF885 Brush. Then the DeWalt came with a new 12V brushless impact driver the DCF801 Xtreme after a year or 2 DeWalt came again with a new dcf840 basically I see 840 is a 20V version of DCF801 Xtreme. Exactly the same size compact and small. And the newly came dcf850 is a midget, small sized or Downsized version of dcf888 and 887. Agree or not but that's how I see them.

For me whatever my next impact driver is (after several years of using a Black and Decker Matrix) I do want the versatility of at least 3 speed settings and/or having a slow start up mode. This 840 is nice, but for me a no for that reason.

Slow start is really a nice feature I didn't even realize I wanted. My 840 cams out a lot, much more that other impacts I have, e.g. Xdt14, dcf801, which both have a soft start. I'm afraid I'll damage the work piece with the 840, gotta be more careful on the trigger.

A good comparison would be atomic 3/8 or 1/2 dcf921 or 923 vs lowes version 3/8 or 1/2 dcf911 i think it is in driving lags. Ya know since dewalt wants to secretly with less marketing make the lowes guns have more power apparently. Atomic rated more torque but lowes gun has higher rpm

@@PhillyFixed maybe throw the 12v gun in the mix. The 20v seems to be the same impact as the 12v jus different battery. Would like to see the performance increase or not jus from battery

Why are all test videos always up and down? I've use DeWalt for years as a non union electrician. Now I've been Union for a few years and I have to use Milwaukee, and I have a hard time screwing away from my body on a ladder with Milwaukee. Not sure why. I use DeWalt for my side work, and it's like a breath of fresh air. The type of work I do doesn't require power, i.e. lags. It's just drywall screws and machine screws I don't know what it is that makes me prefer the DeWalt.

If that's the case, you should really give Makita a shot. Not the most powerful, but my favorite to use. As far as the vertical testing, that's a fair point. For now, you could check out Shop Tool Reviews, he usually clamps boards vertically in a vise. But I will consider it for future videos!

@@PhillyFixed I started with Makita, and I feel the the comfort is on par with DeWalt. I had issues with their batteries. The other thing too was that my coworkers back then always went through batteries. The smaller red ones.

If you don't care about these "dumb ass tests" then why do you care what battery I used? The 840 comes packaged with the pathetic black 1.3's, so I really should have used one of those. Get your t-shirt here: philly-fixed-merch.creator-spring.com/listing/you-used-the-wrong-battery?product=46

@@vanceplace1349 All tools were equipped with an 18650 cell 5aH battery. Sorry your favorite brand didn't perform the way you would have liked it to. If you're looking for biased testing that puts a different class of battery on one tool than the others in a comparison, you'll have to keep searching.
