I bought one of these two weeks ago and since I’ve had it, I haven’t turned on any of my five Fender tube amps. I am blown away every time I use it. Unbelievable sound using no tubes.

One of my Fender tube amps is a ‘65 Super Reverb reissue. I like the sound of the Tone Master better and at 74, I can move the Tone Master.

I didn't really expect the Princeton for three main reasons: 1) its already cheaper, 2) its already lighter, and 3) it isn't as loud, relatively speaking. It made more sense to give the super reverb or the bassman the tone master treatment.

It was either the Super or the Bassman for their next one. I was begging for the Super, so I'm thrilled to try this. Bassman should be next and that will be the big classics to start with.

If Fender can nail that authentic crunch and feel of a Tweed Deluxe or Bassman? I'd be mighty impressed. I have a Mustang GT 100 and really like those particular models. I'd guess if they put all the processing power behind emulating just those amps I'd guess they could pull it off.

@Daniel Rowan I emailed Fender and they responded saying there are quite numerous suggestions for future TM models, and the Tweeds of all different models are highly requested. I'd guess a Bassman or a High power Tweed Twin might make the cut. I'm more on the clean-to-edge of breakup tone most of the time but I do appreciate some more OD.

The TMs do a great job for what they were designed to do. I like the light weight, the power scaling, and the XLR DI out. All nice features for a modern player. The price though. If I have that amount of money to spend I automatically see which tube amps I can have for the same amount or even less than that. It's a tough sell but does sound really good.
@SixStringSlinger1
@SixStringSlinger1 Жыл бұрын
The sonic similarities, the attenuator giving you such a wide variety of volume and keeping the authentic sound while changing volumes, the weight, the speakers, and just the whole package in general makes it "worth it". When I say worth it, of course all good amps are far too expensive.. but compare the price of this (new) to the price of a Super Reverb tube amp (new) makes it more than reasonable. If I were to buy a tube amp at that price point, I could get a good sound for sure. But it would be very limited to it's capacity of use. I think these amps are a godsend and I haven't even got one yet. Come tax time, I'm highly considering getting one.

I've had mine for a couple of months I guess, and plugged my new Gibson SG into it along with a Boss ME80 effects "board". It made a lot of cool sounds, but here lately I've really enjoyed using said SG straight into it and using the reverb/tremolo pedal. It really sounds great. Being an electric/acoustic both Epiphone jumbo and Gibson jumbo gig person, I use the "solid guitar" with the Super Reverb Master Tone in my basement for fun and for learning new songs, because the SG is so easy to play. I really like the amp, I also have the tube Princeton Bordeaux 12, so I'm fixed. Thanks as always for such enriching vids. The playing is quite groovy too.

When played side by side, I can tell a difference. The Tone Master series sound great by themselves, but they have a slight solid-state compression that you don't get with an actual tube amp. Again, it's when tube and Tone Master equivalent are next to each other that the difference is most apparent, but also when OD pedals are added. The breakup is not the same. IMHO, YMMV. On stage with clean tones, I would take a Tone Master and not have a second thought. Also, I stopped by your downtown location a couple of weeks ago. Staff were super friendly and helpful. You had the Taylors I wanted to try our, but not the Martins or Gibsons, which I get because of the ridiculous backorder times. (I also ended driving by your Eubank location an hour later because my wife wanted to stop at Nadler's before we headed back down south. )

I'd thought good bit of the weight reduction in the other Tone Masters came from the neo magnets used in their speakers. Interesting that this amp uses alnico magnet speakers.
@sowhulljnr
@sowhulljnr 3 жыл бұрын
The magnets on the P10R speakers of the Super Reverb are already pretty small, so not much weight saving in switching to a Neo. Also, one less thing for the "purists" to complain about, so here they are kept the same as the tube version. The Deluxe and Twin reissues have large, heavy magnet speakers so big weight savings to be made there by switching to Neo.

Great video, guys. I bought my blonde Deluxe Reverb Tone Master partly based on your earlier video. It gets me 95% of the way to the sound of my tube DR, and when the whole band is playing, you can't tell the difference at all. And the low weight is fabulous.

@@nikverschuren4291 - the Blonde is far better. This video from AskZac makes it clear why: better speaker, better reverb, and bright cap removed (although I believe there may be a firmware update to the black one that takes care of those last two issues) kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6uvhmiBbriljpI

I think these are for someone who loves the tone of a Super- nothing sounds like it- but just can’t wind them up properly for most venues absent an attenuator or something, which is more hassle and more risk of pricy gear walking off. The weight is another big plus on top of the volume issue. This amp be just the thing to help keep this style amp in the music scene.

Well, I tried both SRs back to back in my local store, wanting to pick up on of them. I had basically made my mind up to acquire the Tonemaster Version, but had the budget also for the Tube 65 RI… in a nutshell: my back and wallet said: Tonemaster but my ears and vibes said Tube Vintage Reissue. I bought the tube one…..kinda like comparing a McDonald’s burger to a proper hand crafted burger with all the best ingredients which is double the price. Both get you fed, one you‘ll enjoy more than the other…..

The tweed amps are wonderful. The hard part is you and me my friend is getting them .I don't need a clone,, and do you think Fender is doing what Leo did, making amazing amps that had the best ideas and part's that were available at the time and always still he had to make a profit also. You lucky to have a amp that lasted 40+ years which many of his did and do, but don't get me wrong, the reason for the 65 twin reissue twin's wasn't because their was something magical about the circuit, it was because of money. To put 85 watt Utah's was cheaper than finding a vendor to supply 100 watt speakers . I can only guess who made that decision. Anyway you can have the work done easily and as Joe Walsh sead . I'm stopping here. It's easy to get your 100 watts back and and the speakers of your strength and sound.

Thanks for the vid! Question - wanting to achieve that SRV type of tone (currently running a tube princeton with attenuator) but the headroom isn't there unfortunately. From what I hear Stevie pushed his old amps to get loud and clean then did slight push with a TS. Considering I live in an apartment, do you reckon the Super or Deluxe?

Wow, such a contrast. Not the amps, just between Rapunzel and Uncle Fester! Lol. Just joking guys, good discussion and nice contrast of driven and clean attenuated settings.It really doesn’t matter if it sounds identical to the old tube Super (it won’t), because as a gigging and practising amp it sounds good and is practical.

I just bought one of these things Monday. It sounded pretty good at the store and at home - but ya never really know til ya try it at show - which I did tonight. I will be returning it. Between every tune I was making adjustments -eq,volume, attenuate settings and was never happy, not even close. I'm assuming there some sort of compression employed in these amps and it doesn't respond to touch like other real supers I've played - or any tube amp for that matter. Also theres something undesirable in the mid/high area. I was hoping for the best but nah man, nah.

hello , i have an fender tm deluxe , wich i really like , but for in the band ( blues /classicrock cover band ) i am looking for a bigger/wider sound , so offcourse i was thinking about the tm twin ( having a bad back i really like the tm line from fender ) , but now this tm super reverb is on the market , i'm in doubt ( speaker wise : 2 x 12'' ( neo ) or 4 x 10'' ( alnico ) , what does this reaaly mean , more scooped mids with the 10'' ? Volume wise even my deluxe can handle the band volume level , i play it at about 3-4 ( wich gives me that clean sound and then the pedals do the rest ) , but like i said , i would like an somewhat bigger sound ( 2 x 12 " is a setup i used before and really liked ) . I want to keep the deluxe as a home /back up / band practice amp and use the twin or super reverb for gigs . Thanks in advance and greetings from the netherlands , Antoon Hermans .

I’m a long time tube Super Reverb guy. The advantage to the four tens is a punchier tone with less low bass frequencies interfering with the bass guitar and bass drum to muddy up the mix.

Most clubs these days have sound system and sound tech. Most clubs make you mic your amps to go thru PA which I don't like, cause guy hasn't clue to your mix your sound. But thats way it is in Chicago area. I'm which case almost make sense have tube pedal amp with cab stimulation, if that's case, now I avoid arguing beforehand but mood, I have own pa that's part of my rig, so yeah you wanna run my pa mix thru your no problems but I can still control bands mix, for guitar got 2 x 35 watt amp combos with EB pan/vol pedal running keys and drum machine into 60 water bass combo with 1000 watt pa
