My local gun store got these in yesterday. I looked at them this morning. Thought ... naw ... it's a 380. I've recently told myself .... "No more handguns." After watching you video I grabbed my Diamondback 380, jumped in the car and headed for the gun store. Traded it in for the Glock 42. Trading a '"sorta looks like a Glock" for a genuine Glock doesn't really break my "no more handguns" rule. How's that for rationalization?

I recently purchased one of the G42's and I love it. My duty weapon is the G23 in .40 S & W and the little G42 is a great compliment to the G23. Both are Glocks; therefore, there is no "retraining" so to speak. The triggers are the same, the sights are the same; it's a winning combination. At 21 feet I was shooting 1.5 inch groups with re-manufactured ammo, so the accuracy is there. Many of you seem concerned about the perceived lack of stopping power the .380 may have. You shouldn't be. The .380 is not a "long range" cartridge. Statistics have shown that most deadly force encounters are 21 feet (7 yards) or less. At that range the .380, with proper ammunition, is more than effective to stop an aggressor. As far as ammo, let me make a few suggestions: 1) Buffalo Bore's .380 + P 100 grain FN hardcast. This is arguably the most powerful factory load available, penetration would not be an issue even with heavy clothes. 2) Hornady's .380 90 grain XTP cartridge is also a good choice. The XTP bullet has proven itself time and again in real world encounters. 3) Cor Bon's .380 80 grain DPX load is high velocity matched with an all Copper bullet which equals deep penetration. Personally, I've always used Cor Bon ammo for my personal CC ammunition and the 80 grain DPX load is in my G42 right now. My G42 combined with a Versacarry IWB holster plus Cor Bon ammo = piece of mind when I'm out and about with my family. As with ANY firearm - bullet placement - not knockdown power, is the real key to surviving an encounter with a criminal.

The Glock 42 380 was a much better gun than I anticipated for a half polymer pistol. A little larger frame and grip than most of the other 380's out there which makes it easy for big hands to grip. One can get good groupings at 20 feet (good hallway defense distance). It's not the cheapest 380 but it's by far not the most expensive so would consider it to be a good buy if looking for a good 380 pistol.
@valuedhumanoid65746 жыл бұрын
I made the Ruger LCP2 mistake and chose it over the Glock 42. The only reason was price, and that is so true about getting what you pay for. The LCP2 stings your hand and recoils much worse that it should, mainly because of the plastic frame. And I had quite a few misfeeds and ejection issues. Some of that was the ammo, some was me, some was the firearm. But the bottom line is I didn't have the confidence and therefore did not carry it. It was a shame too because it was so small and fit in the front pocket very well. The Glock 42 they had also came with the Crimson Trace laser grips which made it like $550 compared to the $289 for the Ruger. No sweat, I treat it as a learning experience.

My wife had a LCP 380 and she hated it, the trigger is terrible and it seemed to get worse the more the gun was fired and even with her small hands it was hard for her to get a good grip on the gun, the slide was hard to rack even after it had 300 plus rounds cycled thru the gun and its hard to shoot and even harder to keep on target. She traded in her bodyguard a couple months ago for a G42 and she loves it, its a hoot to shoot and easy to keep on target even when rapid firing, the slide is much easier to rack and its just as easy to carry in her purse or on her hip than the smaller LCP was and the only problem she had was ammo related when she first got the gun, after trying several brands of 90 to 95 grain JHP and FMJ ammunition she settled with the Remington Ultimate Defense 102 grain BJHP and has not had a single failure to feed or eject since changing ammunition

The biggest problem here is the lack of 380 ammo on the shelf right now. And like someone else commented when people start getting excited about this gun and buy them, ammo will be even harder to find. The shortage of 380 ammo will get worse, all the more reason to push Glock for a 9 mm version. Most reviews on this pistol have been positive, and unlike most 380s its a soft shooter. Thanks wishse, nice video, thanks for sharing.

The advantage over the Ruger LCP, that you were talking about @ 2:47, is bc the Ruger LCP is a pocket pistol and the 42 is not. The 42 is comparable to the LC380 or the Walther PK380 imo. Despite Glocks claims, I really dont think this is a pocket pistol. It's just too big...
@Defx108 жыл бұрын
I have a Walther PPK/S, Ruger LCP, and a Glock 42. The Glock is by far superior, and is the easily the best and most comfortable .380 handgun I've ever fired. The Walther and Ruger have such a snappy recoil that they are just not fun to shoot at all. But, the Glock has almost no recoil at all. It is very soft and a pleasure to shoot. I do still carry the Ruger more often though, only because it's smaller, lighter, and more comfortable to conceal in appendix carry, which is my preferred carry style.

It’s 2019 and came into owning one of these (mfg in 2014 and was new out of the box) and the thing runs great! It’s easily manipulated and easy to get on target and keep it on target. Wouldn’t recommend it as a primary carry (I keep one in my desk at work) but it has its place. Not manny failures either, (1) failure to feed out of roughly 500rounds (defense and target ammo)

Amazed at how many men miss the target market for the G42. It's women. Ruger heard women's complaints about long trigger pull and recoil of the LCP and Ruger responded with the LC380. Glock heard the same complaints and introduced the G42. Have yet to her a woman complain about the G42 even the ones that use Flashbang holsters. Smart move Glock.

I like the way the back of the grip is formed as opposed to the other Glocks. With my 17 Gen 4 it cants the front sight a little bit and with the Gen 3 the sights are even, but the middle of the grip feels "shallow" to me. Just having that hump sit higher on the back would feel much better and more secure in my hands in my honest opinion.

Would you recommend the 42 for a 26 year-old female (daughter) as ccw?
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC9 жыл бұрын
+Scott Crafton Tahnks for the question. I can't answer it without a bunch more information. What is the intended purpose of the gun for your daughter? How will it be stored and or carried? What is her level of training and commitment to practice? Are there children around her or in her house? I am a big fan of Glocks as they have served me well for 2 plus decades. You might want to look at the Glock 43 9mm as well as the G42. My EDC is the S&W M&P Shield 9mm. I like the ergonomics more than the Glock. But would feel well served by any Glock Pistol. If your daughter is not fully proficient on handguns, I would suggest a few things. Have her practice with a full sized .22 pistol. Ruger 22 /45 is a good low cost option. Get her some formal training in safety NRA basic pistol class is a good one, and then to defensive pistol applications 2) Then transition the training to to a full sized 9mm (G17 or G19 or M&P). This will allow her to master technique and gain confidence. Once that is done, she can start training on the compact G42 or 43. Remember smaller guns are typically more difficult to shoot than their full size counterparts.

@13Odysseus11 жыл бұрын
Your usual excellent video but one that raises a question: why would anyone choose a 380 over a slim 9mm? I like Glock and was waiting for years for a slim, single-stack 9mm from them then realized I had one in the Kahr CW-9 (or CM-9 for those who like a still smaller pistol). Any plans to compare the Glock 42 with a CW-9 or other slim-factor 9mm?
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC11 жыл бұрын
Good question. There are a few of reasons why some may select this over a 9mm. These include, price, weight, recoil management and trigger. This trigger is excellent. I prefer Glock triggers to the Kahr. The Kahr are good but very long and the reset is also very long (all the way out). The Glock's trigger is great. This is a very soft shooting .380 and would be a good option for anyone who is concerned with recoil management.

Wish Glock would have came out with this long ago... they were late to the smaller pistol game in 380, if they had been early we would probably have this same size pistol in 9mm by now. I am still tempted to buy one with my Fire and EMS discount to try it. Then if they do come out with a 9mm version ill get one of those and hand down the 380. We all have to remember that shoot placement is key not caliber size. I've seen deer run off with several 70 mm slug holes in them because the shot was not placed correctly (center mass is key no matter what size of bullet). I think 380 will work up close but I just prefer a 9mm since I already have other pistol's in that caliber.

They had to be able to make it in the United States because they couldn't import it for other reasons. There are rumors about a similar 9mm in the works, but it's just rumor. I bought my 42 a few weeks ago, found a two round extender from Ghost, and I am headed to the range to try them out. I love the way this gun carries. It weighs only 1 lb with the 6 rd mag fully loaded. Add two more plus one and I have a 9 shot Conceal Carry, with extra mags. It's all about the US single stack,plastic, .380 acp market niche: Ruger LC380, Bersa BP380cc, S&W Bodyguard, etc.etc. Glock wanted a piece of the pie. (not talking about LCP or Kahr p380) In countries where the 9x18/9x17 calibers are the maximum allowed, nobody in their right mind will prefer the G42 over a G28 or a G25. I prefer the Bersa BP380cc or the Ruger LC380. They are the same size as the G42, but out of the box they can hold 8 rounds. instead of the G42's 6 rounds....

Im really considering getting a glock 42. Does anyone know if the magazine release is switchable for leftys like on the other gen 4's? thanks in advance.

rmartinezsterling yes it is. It's a easy process

Hey Seth. Awesome video as usual. I'm always skeptical of the concealability larger "pocket" guns like the LC9 and the Shield. How does the G42 compare in size to a J-Frame and a Shield. FYI, I pocket carry a 642 but I carry my Shield IWB.

You are a good shooter. More importantly, thank you for the review. :thumbs up: I already have a G43, and I just ordered a G42 last night. I'm a newbie to Gun Broker and I can see it's going to be a bad habit for me. I bought 3 pistols in 1 week. HELP :-D Normally I like to buy locally, but GB has hard to find items like FDE, green or grey Glocks, Walther PPQ Q5 Match and such.

I must have bought an earlier model. Mine jams on a consistant basis. I have heard that some changes were made to the magazines. Mags are a big cause of failures. Will contact Glock i guess.

Can the mag release be flip-flopped for lefties?
@blainesmith65518 жыл бұрын
Me Justme it can. My brother is a lefty and selling me his and we switched it back to righty for me.

I love my glock 42 is it me that just hates when someone drops the slide with holding the slide back first 😂
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching... can you be more specific about what you're referring to? The power stroke bothers you or using the slide stop. Thanks!
@cyco781loco14 жыл бұрын
Hey it's cool I ment when the slide is released and dropped with out holding the slide back if that makes any sense? It's something I was always taught at my range to help prevent ware and tear
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC4 жыл бұрын
@@cyco781loco1 Thanks for your reply. Think about what the slide is doing as a round is fired, especially in full recoil...that is far more abusive what what you're describing. I don;t belive what you saw in the video will cause more "wear" on the slide, frame or parts. I've put over 50,000 rounds through a Gen 2 G19 and done double that about of dry practice and dry stoppage clearance drills. So the slide has been cycled far more than most. That G19 is running great, no problems or wear. In my years of teaching and training, I've never advocated being gentle or trying to prevent wear with a gun. Obviously do what you're comfortable with...Thanks again for watching and engaging. I really appreciate it.

Great review, I really wanted to see the practical accuracy of the pistol. I think this is a winner!!

That Glock look to be a sweet 380, but.... The LCP just plain works and the ease of carry cannot be beat. Excellent review.

I want to buy my first gun. I think it should be a glock. But wich one?
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC2 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend the Glock 19. Cheaper ammo means more practice and the perfect size for range work and carry. The duty side arm for the FBI. The G 42 is good but the ammo is more expensive. My EDC is a G19 or G48. Hope you’ll subscribe to the channel there are lots of reviews on Glocks and other pistols, shotguns and rifles.
