I don't know how it really is these days. I don't know anyone that prayed as much as they do in these videos, and most people would spend maybe, MAYBE ten minutes to randomly understand stuff in their pre-meeting studies. Congregation hours averaged about 7 or 8 per publisher and nobody in my circle did anything theocratic in our spare time. The Bible regularly speaks of the families of important male characters as though they are nothing more than property for these biblical patriarch's like Job or Lot or Noah, ignoring how horribly they are treated by the patriarchs and Yahweh alike and even encouraging the reader to view the men in question as role models. Their suffering doesn't even enter into the equation, so to speak, as they are treated like replaceable belongings in the story of Job, in the story of Lot are treated like bargaining chips to be used in order to protect the lives of fucking angels that can't be killed anyways (I know Lot thought they were just random men that had come to stay for the night, but still, that doesn't make it any better, Lot still basically sacrificed his daughter or daughter-in-law, forget which, in order to protect some dudes he just met), and Noah curses his own son Ham for the unforgivable sin of seeing his balls when he was passed out drunk. Throughout the OT, women and children are consistently referred to as though they are comparable to livestock, not to mention slavery and how it is condoned so long as Israelites aren't the ones in chains, just the sub-human gentiles.

My mom is 78 and I think the religion is the only thing she finds happiness in, and keeps her going. I'd never ever try to talk get out of it. I've been df'd for over 20 years and she has never treated me any different, I've even lived with her when I've gone through a nasty divorce, and when my house suffered a disaster and was unlivable. She still talks about "the truth" and "serving Jehovah" and I just nod and smile. Dad would actually talk to me about my apostate ideas and accepted that I was an atheist. I spent much of my childhood involved in this cult, and even though I escaped the worst of it's consequences, I can tell you 100% it fucked my head up. The anxiety, guilt, and fear took easily into my early 20s to go away totally (though who knows what subconcious damage was permanent and I'm just unaware). I feel like it's very difficult for anyone who hasn't been through it to genuinely comprehend it. Particularly the head trip on kids. I was told (in the eighties) to forget about high school and college because this world would cease to exist by then (my HS graduating class was 95). Unsurprisingly, this led me down a very unproductive and nihilistic road. Alot of drugs and sex and crime (easy money), which gave the "wise elders" perfect fuel to say "see?we told you so". When in actuality if I'd had a more encouraging message fed to me from birth, I may have avoided all those things. I can't say for sure-I am responsible for my actions. But what happens when you tell a sensitive young man from birth that nothing done in this life matters because the world is about to blow up in gruesome fashion?

How they take the word of the bible and manipulate it into their own thing. There is nothing in the Bible about having to serve men through an organisation. It just states to be the best versions of yourself and you can achieve that by taking the example of Jesus, and Jesus doesn't really hold grudges or says you have to serve me like a maniac to get some reward. None at all. So they were lying all the time through Jesus. Religion is the biggest enemy of God, no wonder he is soo pissed at the leaders of religious beliefs, as they manipulated people since the birth of religion after jesus, especially talking about Christianity... Anyway fu#k those dick#heads...

Did anyone else notice the elderly sisters glass pane in her front door was broken and part of it was missing? People have less anxiety and less anxious thoughts and less worthless feelings once they leave WT. Once I stopped seeing my worth as being dependent on the approval of a corporation (cause let's be honest, Jehovah is the organization) the majority of my anxiety disappeared. Edit: it always confounded me how God is not partial, yet he chose ONE nation as his nation and people who were foreigners could not fully join the nation and the superiority complex of the Israelites led them to kill anyone who didn't worship their God. But God loves everyone...yeah right. Edit: notice how in the drama where the mom died, they didn't focus on the man grieving or spending time with his family as a positive thing. I'm Brazilian and have never been a JW. However, I did have a dentist (woman) who was a witness, she even had that "learn from the great teacher" book in the waiting room. Only now I am learning more about the religion and it seems strange that she was able to go to college and get a degree as a dentist, I thought women were discouraged from seeking higher education

Something in Philippians or one of Paul's bastardized letters where he called Satan the god of the world, which leaves it up to anyone's interpretation what the heck that's supposed to mean. JWs use it as a proof text to show that Jesus can be a god but not almighty Jehovah God. There are groups of Christians who say Satan isn't a person and demons don't exist, they are metaphors for our sinful condition, and the Jews thought this way until they were introduced to Greek gods like Hades. Elaine Pagels is an author who has written a lot of easily digestible books about how Jesus, Yahweh, baal and Satan got their beginnings and how they evolved. Of course JWs won't go anywhere near something like that, they have their own Bible encyclopedia and dictionary and that's all they need.
