One of the advantages of getting older is that you’ve seen the trend cycles repeat and you’ve been around long enough to work out what works for you and you can either just ignore trends or pick and choose bits from one’s that you enjoy. I just looked them up and they are different. Laminated skin is combination of makeup and skincare. Dolphins skin is achieved with makeup by layering your highlighter. Glass skin and glazed donut skin are similar except glass skin involves exfoliate toner and essence

I think a balance of matte and dewy looks nice. Like trust me dewy won't look nice if your skin isn't smooth. And too much dewy makes you look sweaty. So a balance between the two looks perfect tbh

Agree. Just like with brows, I don't like the super thin brows, but I also don't like the extremely huge boxy brows on most people. Usually the thing that works the best for most people is something in the middle. But that wouldn't make an interesting trend, so they wouldn't be able to feed us different bs every chance they get lol.

I feel the same way. It has to also look like skin texture, yaknow. Like it has to look like you're looking at skin. I imagine that very clear, evenly textured and moisturuzed skin looks slightly dewy and slightly matte. I've seen people with absolutely amazing skin and one didn't look dewy at all but her skin was stunning. The other looked similar but with added dewiness. Both very beautiful. And some others I've seen looked so matte I felt they must have some makeup on that they did insanely well bcs regular skin just doesn't look this matte. It still looked like skin in a way, I had to look close and still still couldn't figure out if they had something on. But just unrealisrically matte.

Going out in the cold with Vaseline on your face can help prevent wind burn. Growing up in Minnesota, parents would often slather Vaseline on their kid's cheeks before they would go outside to play hockey~~

An important point on the SMOOTH & SEAL steps… 3:14 Sealing in “actives” (chemical exfoliants & retinoids) with an occlusive layer like Vaseline can be pretty irritating to many skin types, which of course Cassandra speaks about on other videos! I’m assuming she means here that while SMOOTHING & SEALING are both important components of this trend, they don’t have to happen at the same time.

Same! That’s honestly the way to be. I got my septum pierced back in 2007. Back then, the only people with septum piercings were bikers and the people in tattoo magazines who were covered in body modifications. I got called a cow, ugly, every name in the book. Fast forward about ten years, and suddenly it’s a trend and socially acceptable for women. My father was so offended that he didn’t speak to me for two weeks when I first got it (to be fair, I was quite underage at the time, but I had other facial piercings). Now he thinks it’s “cute on women”. It’s crazy how so much of people’s feelings about what they like and dislike is actually dictated by other people, and not just what they genuinely like. It’s very weird to me as someone who has always just worn and done whatever I genuinely liked, regardless of what other people had to say about it. It sounds like you’re the same way, and I respect you for it! 🤗

Do what works for you. I never understood the intense blush all over the face trend. I have rosacea and people are making the *rosacea flush* a trend and I do everything to control my rosacea while they can just remove their makeup at the end of the day. Recently I’ve been experimenting with vaseline . I was pleasantly surprised with you making this video . Vaseline is actually better than I expected . I am using it as a last step on my eyelids . It smooths out the crepe dry skin and make it looking better . Sometimes I even use it as a sleeping mask. Great stuff !

2:10 ❤ THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT! This is honestly how I feel about my hair. The new trend rn is use all these hair oils to prevent thin/fine hair. I naturally have fine hair. No matter what amount of oils I put in it, it’s not going to genetically change 🤷🏻‍♀️ I did start a hair challenge for myself (grow out my hair) and I got so much negative backlash. “My hair is better than yours.” “I bet you wish you had hair like mine” “I wouldn’t know, I don’t have that problem”; Just very catty. I find it sad that people would even try to tear someone down over a genetic thing. That would be like me saying, “I bet you wish you had my blue eyes” or “I bet you wish you had my metabolism”. I’m a runner. One of the oldest tricks in the book for winter running (and all outdoor winter sports) is to apply an occlusive on exposed (and even clothed) skin to help keep it warm. The occlusive creates a barrier preventing moisture and heat loss. It actually helps prevent making you feel colder, which is nothing like wet hair.

You can use it to lock in moisture to your skin and lips (like chapstick). Because it also protects the skin, people in very cold, windy areas or people who run use an occlusive to 1. Lock in moisture. The cold and wind can dry skin. 2. Protect. Running and being out in the wind can cause windburn, a painful irritating rash similar to a sunburn. It also helps to keep in heat.

I use sunscreen to achieve this look. First I use straitia liquid gold or a snail serum then last I use pacifica vitamin sea spf or dramatica age smart spf 50. They both give a very shiny, Dewey wet look. They’re both really good but dramatic feels a little better on the skin

As long as laws in other countries don't change not every single brand should be cruelty free. If that'd be the case then more than 1B people would not have access to basic hygene products and cosmetics. The best idea right now is to promote cruelty free in new brands, not so much on the existing ones. (I don't live in the U.S.A. but my country, Argentina, does not require animal testing by law) Let's remember we live in priviledge of not living in a country with those laws but other people don't have that priviledge and no matter how much we could want it for ourselves we'd be very egocentric for only thinking on what WE want and not on what we'd be causing to others. But my country does not have much varierty of producta and most of the brands you can find here are non-cruekty free and everything is extra expensive (the average price per skincare product is 2.5%, like micelar water, up to 10%, like la roche posay, of a medium salary). So even though I'd prefer cruelty free brands most people in the world don't have the luxury of getting picky. The variety of products in the U.S.A. is waaaay bigger than ypu might think it is. It's a paradise. And you can choose with your money what brands you want to help "survive"

My trick is to add a good oil to my moisturiser for a glow.. I live in the UK and it's cold so oils absorb more while leaving a good glow. My favourite is from boots botanics rosehip oil. I haven't tried the others from their range because I'm allergic to lavender and rosehip is the only one without it.

I totally agree Casandra. I’ve seen and experienced it for myself. I was a teen in the 70’s and even home furnishings, cosmetics, skin care, etc… have come and gone and come and gone again and again! BTW, I watched your video on salicylic acids I had never used them, cuz I get laser resurfacing but my derm gave me some samples and wow! I’m hooked! It made a huge difference in any remaining texture and filaments in my black heads! I have to reduce the amount of Retin A cuz…ouch! Thanks! Diane❤

I do something similar except I skip some steps I usually use a cleanser , apply a good moisturizer and apply a thin layer of aquaphor to lock in that moisture and it works soo good my skin stays hydrated all day and really dewy which is great because I love having dewy looking skin I love the shin and natural glow I get .

I think super glossy skin is one of those styles that should stay in the editorial realm. Slathering your face with Vaseline can look great on the runway, but I don't know how viable it is to go out during the day with a face full of Vaseline and no sunscreen (bc you know that there's no way in hell a sunscreen is setting on top of Vaseline or staying set under it). For a night out on the town, this could be the look, if you don't mind the risk of hair sticking to your face.

My problem is that my skin looks greasy. Just greasy. It looks like my face is oozing French fry grease. And I can't get it toned and even. And I'm trying to figure out if washing twice a day or even once a day. It just seems to be bad no matter what I do. So I really don't want a greasy face. A healthy complexion would be nice. I’ve been like this for a long time now where I’ll put layers of moisturizer on where it doesn’t fully soak in and I use thicker more moisturizing sunscreens and I’ll do 2 layers of that and my face shine alike a mirror but it feels so good and keeps my skin from drying out so well.

I did a couple of photoshoots, where I had to emulate sweat. The best product for that was just glycerin. So don't buy any expensive products. You should be able to get glycerin in pharmacy for very, very cheap. The only downside- don't use it around eyes as it will sting.

This trend is not for me, I hated matte skin and I also hate overly shiny skin. BUT if anyone wants a product recommendation I have a sunscreen I think would actually work for this. Pipette mineral sunscreen is soooo dewy I had to powder on top of it or at least mix it with a less dewy mineral sunscreen to finish the bottle. I thought itd be good for my dry skin in the winter but it was just so moisturizing and glossy I didn't vibe with it. But if you want to look shiny as he'll and protect your skin at the same time I recommend it! Outside of my aesthetic preferences it was a good sunscreen Lol

I think that Pyunkang yul balancing gel can be used for this, it's texture is more like honey, very unusual, it needs to be applied by patting face, and it can be sticky if applied incorrectly, but it on the one side stops oily skin from producing excessive oil, and on the other side gives that glazed effect without multiple layering. I did not understand this product firs, but gave it a second chance and proved to be very good and I still use it. But very unusual product anyway😁

Nobody gave me weird looks or criticised me in any way but I wouldn’t care either way because glass skin is still what makes me feel happiest and confident. You should just do what makes you happy, you could literally die today, we all will eventually so why worry about such trivial matters?

So I'd say the logical conclusion is to do what makes you happy, because trends are not meant for everyone anyway.

Hi! I love this channel and have a.. unique problem? Or maybe not a problem. Can you do a video about the difference between a "day" routine and a "night" routine? I work overnights so my "days" are nights, in the dark, inside... And I know a lot of products do keep in mind if it's going to be used "am" or "pm". Does it matter? Should my day routine be used while working nights or while I'm sleeping during the day? HELP!

hey! idk if you still need help but i can potentially provide you some advice :) a lot of the “pm” products are marked as such for one (or both) of two reasons. the first is that the ingredients in the product increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so they shouldn’t be worn during the day due to risk of sunburn and other sun related skin damage. the other reason is because the product may be heavier and needs a long time to soak in/work, so having them on during the day might cause your face to feel a little suffocated or you could like sweat it off or something. especially for products that are advertised as PM for that second reason (think sleeping masks or night creams), definitely wear those when you’re sleeping during the day. for products that increase sensitivity to the sun (like retinols and some of the acids), it depends on how exposed to the sun you are during the day. if you’re pretty protected from the sun inside (sleeping in a dark room/with blinds or curtains closed) and you aren’t in the sun at all during your work period, then it’s honestly up to you whether you use those products during work or when you’re sleeping. i’d say you probably could get away with just reversing what’s typically considered a day routine vs a night routine! wear the heavier products while you’re sleeping and the lighter “daytime” ones during the night! one thing i’m not sure what to say about is spf though. if youre really not exposed to the sun much at all i’m not sure whether i’d say to worry about spf. obviously protecting your skin from the sun is important, but if you aren’t really being exposed to the sun it doesn’t seem like it would really be an issue?? but yeah overall i think you get to choose what makes the most sense to you for your routines! if having a bunch of heavy creams and active ingredients on your face while you’re working doesn’t bother you, then you can do the nighttime routine at night! if it does or if you’d just prefer to have the heavier stuff on when you’re sleeping and the lighter stuff on when you’re working, then do the “daytime” routine at night :)

Aside from the trend, I'm a little confused about what you said when someone is in a cold environment. I thought that in winter and cold it's better to use occlusive/more oily creams to maintain/lock in your skin's moisture. Please help to clarify 🤯🥶🙈🤔

I really do not care about skincare trends. When you've dealt with skin issues most of your life all you care about is healthy skin. It's funny though, because I literally use jojoba oil and Vaseline on my face every night. Lol. I double cleanse, moisturize while my skin is still damp and then once my moisturizer dries, I use some jojoba oil and then seal it in with Vaseline. I use a small amount and only use the oil and Vaseline at night. I know there's more transepidermal water loss at night, more repair happening at night and I sleep with a fan in my face. 🙃 I cleanse in the morning to wash off any of the Vaseline residue I still have and then I follow up with sunscreen. I have a long history of acne and doing my skincare this way and focusing on skin health vs skin trends, has helped my skin and it's truly never been better.

I literally don't see how this is different than slugging. Slugging is finishing with Vaseline/thick occlusive, and you've done your skincare routine before. Then this is Do your routine, and finish with Vaseline/Occlusive, they're the same. Also, many people who have Psoriasis can't tolerate Vaseline. Psoriasis and Eczema included in this was very odd..

Just saying, it depends, for example if i do this i would look horrible like i didnt take a shower for a week , others can get away with this, other cant, i will and always stay with matte, fresh powdery skin, it looks clean, fresh and not tired-looking.

When I use my La-Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with Niacinamide it makes my face so shiny and sweaty looking. I always use a finishing powder to mattify it. Who knew that it would be the new thing. I still would rather look matte.

Okay most of this is very informative, but she is wrong about this being bad for cold weather. The glass skin trend is actually FANTASTIC for colder climates because it created a layer of insulation over the skin. It's common for skiers/snowboarders to smother their face in Vaseline to prevent wind burn, or at least in my circles. Just make sure to only use something that is oil-based, because a water-based cream will definitely just make you uncomfortable. Try it, and I promise you won't regret it :)
