The 2025 NBA offseason wrapped up with a shocking blockbuster deal as the New York Knicks sent Julius Randle and Donte Divincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. It's a big addition for a roster that contains Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and more. Some people are iffy on the trade while I personally love it for New York. It gives them more versatility, spacing, and the talent to compete with, and potentially outclass, the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, and Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. It also gives them the best Knicks roster of my lifetime and a real opportunity to win the NBA Finals against any of the juggernauts out West like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, or Denver Nuggets. Ultimately, it's a controversial move that I believe was worth the swing and could be what gets the Knicks their first ring in decades. Let's talk about it.

KAT is insanely skilled. These Knicks have the potential to best since the 1969 and early 70s Knicks coached by Red Holzman and led by Willis Reed and Walt Frazier, among others. Those Knicks played almost perfect basketball. I was there. I saw it.

At this point in their careers KAT has more upside than Randle. Losing Donte hurt, but ultimately the Knicks did not have a starting center and regardless what you think of KAT he’s still one of the elite centers in the league. W trade for the Knicks Leon stays cooking 🔥

Brunson didn't take a "pay cut". His salary went from $24m to averaging $39m/year on his new deal - which was the maximum money he could've signed for btw. Since when is a 60% pay increase called a "pay cut?"He wouldn't needed to wait another year in order to be eligible for a larger contract. It's not a guarantee that he would stay healthy and perform at the same level.
