Luka in 2022. Was 22/23 years old. Mavs went to the Western Conference finals and lost in 5. Lost Brunson for nothing, sold the depth for Kyrie during the 2023 season. Randle is nowhere near the floor stretcher that KAT is, but I will say he is much smarter, a better passer, is a vastly improved playmaker, and he is tougher. I'm not one of those people that is saying KAT is soft, rather I'm one of those people that saw how Randle embodied the toughness of Knicks culture that he single-handedly brought back into Madison Square Garden. And I presume that while they won't stick with him, for the time being their closing lineup will most likely consist of Divincenzo/Conley, Ant, McDaniels, Randle and Naz which makes their spacing still quite sound while instilling a hard nosed will to win at the end of games coming from the 2 Knicks boys they just acquired. Overall, a pretty harmless trade considering Randle has real worth and value for them on the court for the time being and as a trade asset to fetch better surrounding pieces. Not to mention, the Divincenzo aspect of this trade will work wonders for this team's 2nd unit and will make things much more comfortable for their newly acquired Point Guard, Rob Dillingham.

I think people are very overestimating the "playoff chocker" or "soft" narrative against KAT. KAT has not been playing very well in the playoff. He averages 19 points per game with 58% true shooting. This is better than an average NBA player, but it is not very good for a franchise player. However, the sample size is very small, and the players in the losing team always tend to record worst stats than winning team. KAT playoff performance is not really that concerning, given how bad Timberwolves has been historically. KAT being "soft" is entirely a nonsense delusion. KAT is more of a finesse compared to say Giannis, but this is just a different of play style. It is like calling Steph "soft" because derick rose players a more physical game. Players just have different play style. Having a more finesse play style doesn't make a player worse, if his advanced stats are good. Jimmy Butler story is also bullshit. Jimmy was the one who first skipped three days of practice; when he showed up, he only won a 8 minutes practice session; then leave without doing the rest of practice and went on to a show to sh*ttalk his teammates. KAT is not soft. He is just not an obnoxious immature assholes like those who can't even control their emotions/anger. Whatever KAT's softness is, it doesn't make him and his team less likely to win. @Eastra3Ай бұрын
Randle made 3 all star appearances, 2 of them were not in contract years, and those 2 years he made all-NBA. Why does Randle need to force anything to get paid? All he has to do is do what he did in NY, and he will be a great player. The good point you made is that he is a bully ball player coming off of a shoulder injury, which if anything, may make him more hesitant to bang and force things, which undermines your initial argument. I think you’re being dramatic… even if you say that aspects of the wolves will regress because of this trade, that doesn’t mean the team is going to be worse than they were last year… while I don’t see Randle as fitting the style of play or the mold for the future here in MN he is a versatile and talented player who actually scored more than KAT last year. Injuries are an issue, but they were with KAT, too… and he plays better defense more consistently… but really, beyond the money, this was a vote of confidence for Naz Reid. I envision Randle getting moved eventually and Reid ending the year starting at stretch 4. He’s a microwave scorer with better handles and stronger defense than KAT. While he doesn’t shoot the 3 as well, he also hasn’t gotten a chance to start. He’s only 24 and has gotten better every year. Beyond that, DD is a huge pick up, with him, TSJ, Dillingham, and Ingles, the wolves have the best bench in the west, maybe the league. If your starting 5 is Ant, Jaden, MC, Randle, and Rudy, then your bench is Naz, DD, NAW, Rob, TSJ, Ingles, and Leonard Miller with Luka Garza in tow… and don’t forget about Josh Minot and don’t forget about Jaylen Clark… our 6-10 is nasty. I think there’s an expectation that Naz and Jaden are going to see more touches on offense and that Ant is going to further grow into his leadership role. And this move ensures that we have the ability to move contracts and deal pieces to build the roster. KAT was always going to need to be moved. The timing sucks, but they got plus assets for him now, where they would probably have to give him away if they waited until after the year… and they were never going to move Jaden and never had an opportunity to move Rudy, who has zero market… It still hurts, bc of what a good human KAT is and how much he’s been through here, and obviously the talent, but this was not only the right move, it makes us better overall.

I liked the trade for Minnesota. DiVincenzo is a salary cap bargain. Randall can be flipped or let him walk to reduce salaries. Reed is ready to step up. McDaniels and Ant are anchor talents. Kat is soft. He shoots very well but doesn't use his height enough in mismatches. Gobert is a liability at the arc. He can be abused by great shooting teams. He's fine in the regular season but not great in playoffs against elite teams. And the Wolves overpaid for him. I would flip him, too. Get cheaper and improve switching and shooting, create more room for Ant and McDaniel in the paint. Let someone else have Gobert camp at the rim and suffer at the hands of elite shooters. The Knicks also benefited. They got off Randall and broke even on distance shooting. Less paint clogging is good for backdoor cuts and lane drives. They may miss some rebounds; we shall see.

It’s one thing to think they may be worse, even tho Vegas and hollinger disagree, but to make some claim that ticking the next five years of ant for this next year might make ant leave IS THE STUPIDEST THING IVE EVER HEARD. That’s literally why they made the move. What’s more likely and likely to get ant to leave? Having kat make top 5 money until he’s 32 while he’s played less then 70%of the games the last four years and has major playoff flaws OR move on and try to get Durant on the cheap or lebron or some other thing when Rudy naz naw and Randle come off the books and you have max cap space. Bro use your brain. Side note: it’s really over blown. Randle is a better playmaker and that’s was hurt in the wcf and dd gives us the best bench in the league. We almost definitely matchup best with everyone in the west but Denver. Kat although good has led the league offensive fouls each of the last four years, has had some real low moments in the playoffs people have forgotten somehow and although he shoots well only ever shoots 6 a game even after years of them trying to get him to take more.

yes they did, there’s realistically no move they could make to compete with teams like the celtics and other powerhouses than just purely hoping that ant takes a huge jump. they could run it back, but then if they lose again they would have just wasted time preventing the inevitable. ant and most of their talented core is very young, there’s no point to force a push in a very competitive spot when you can just play the waiting game and maximize the amount of leeway you have to match the true title contention window with the timeframe of ants prime.
