I love that brown velvet. Brown is actually my black. So many tops would be beautiful with it. Maybe a belt not on your shirt but around the top low down to make appearance of a waist line.

I have a hard time styling skirts because my waist is right under my bust so I don’t want to wear shorter tops because it looks like I have the skirt hiked up but if I wear longer tops they cut me off at the widest part of my body and look frumpy. So, if you’re going to working on incorporating/styling skirts I’d be super interested.

So many of us have fluctuating stomach areas so your solution to pants is also good for skirts.. A little loose at the waist with an almost fitted back with elastic . I think on this skirt one would have to cut 1 size larger in the back than the front to do that... not sure but it is a great pattern. I also find that using 3 fashion words for a capsule is a great start to having a cohesive wardrobe, but it is important to do as you said, break out of the comfort zone and experiment with something a little different :) Maybe you can have a new hashtag for all of us experimenting with skirts for winter 👍

I recently watched a video by Mariah Pattie about keeping warm in winter wearing skirts. She made below the knee flannel drawers after studying historical underwear. Apparently, they work really well, but I think I'll pass! This looks like a great pattern. Funnily enough, just yesterday, I was looking at a piece of velour in my stash and wondering what to do with it.
@nancyhurt714510 ай бұрын
I just watched her long skirt history video, too. I don’t wear skirts or dresses, but I think I’m going to try this one in a wool in longer length. I don’t think I could do the bloomers/drawers either!
@nancyhurt714510 ай бұрын
I, too, have same waist/hip measurement so I always think a skirt is not for me, plus I have thick ankles that I never want to show. But I think I’m going to branch out and be brave and try this in wool and longer length with tights and boots. Here I go!

I personally wear support stockings daily, so they keep me plenty warm. (But to be fair, my climate averages only 50F/10C in the winter)

LOVE your Encore, Whitney! I just finished up my slightly shortened, slightly scoop-necked version of the long sleeve Arlington and am thinking this could be the sweater that could go with this new Encore skirt! I had to pause your video to go over to LN to grab the pattern after seeing you model this one! I’ve got to try a velveteen - your’s is so inspiring! I can see why you received so many compliments!

I can't believe it?!! I've been looking for a golden/chestnut brown velvet to make a "somewhat" oversized blazer for about two years now. So far, all I have found is one for $35 a yard from a seller that I don't know . . . I've been trying to talk myself into it. I saw your skirt and thought you'd have a link to the fabric . . . augghhh. I love velvet. I'm happy your velvet found a place in your closet! Wishing you and Jenni and your families a wonderful holiday!!! ⛄🎄✨
@TomKatStitchery10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! Check out the links for the velvet. Maybe it's right for you!
@nonsequitur505710 ай бұрын
I did try the links . . . no joy, but thanks. It's the color that is hardest to find. I am also avoiding "stretch velvet" or "velour." I have been looking for Rayon or Silk Velvet. I used to buy/use velvet all the time . . . well until I started having to chase kids around. I did make my step-daughter velour Tees that she loved. And I had a boatneck velour top. I did switch over to washable cotton velveteen which isn't bad for vests, jackets and skirts. It's almost like working with corduroy. But, oh, how I love my rayon velvets! Mood has Silk/Rayon velvet in the shade I want for $59.40/yard. The company that I am not familiar with is SyFabrics. They have an apparel Rayon Velvet in the color I want for $34.50/yd and it's wide . . . so, I'd better grab it before it disappears!! You know how that goes! Thanks for your concern! 🥰 @@TomKatStitchery

As soon as I saw your email I knew I had to have this one! For your waist band, could you not add the extra in the waist band and add elastic on both side sections going from the pocket panels to the back centre panels eliminating the zip altogether?
@TomKatStitchery10 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness! That's an excellent idea and you could absolutely do that!
@cecilehoare305310 ай бұрын
@@TomKatStitchery my thinking is that would be where the elastic would be most hidden and where I need more room. In your case it's where you need to balance your bust so it would add the slightest volume to your high hip. And let's face it, if we don't have to add a zip, why do it! LoL
