Agree! I think the days when you buy a classic flap and able to sell on a profit in the next few years are well and truly gone. You have to wait years to the point inflation has gone so high up you can get more than you paid for or even break even.

I think the peekaboo and capucines are a bit too formal for a casual day, yet they are not able to bring to work as it will be too flashy for office use. So, it is in the dinner or formal catch-up category, and people might consider bringing a classic flap instead.

The original design of the puzzle bag was discontinued. The bag you bought is still called the puzzle bag in the Loewe website. I bought one just a week ago from the Loewe store and the tag says puzzle bag. Although, the new style was previously called puzzle edge.

Amazing video Amy! No one explains as well as you do: with so much clarity and comprehensive aspects! I might add what to look for in each brand to know if they are classic/timeless styles are the codes (iconic ysl logo, chanel quilts/interwoven chain/cc logo) and history of the fashion house reflected in the bag vs the trends of the season/years (puffy: chanel 19, ysl puffer/loulou lines). And Hermes do have sales.

I purchased two Celine bags, the Cabas 16 (tote) and the Small 16. I think the Celine Small 16 will become a classic for years to come. I doubt the tote will. I love the brand regardless. Great and informative vlog!

Hello Amie, great video! The only thing I would like to mention is that Hermes does have sales for their clients, and Chanel has changed in terms of sales as well. They only do certain items and mostly exclusive to some of their high tier clients 😉

I usually don’t worry about the resale value of the pieces I buy because I plan to keep my favorites forever or at least a long time. I have a Stella McCartney tiny Falabella, and these bags do terrible on the resale market but I just love mine. I also have a Birkin in blue electric which is not the safest color on a bag but matches my engagement ring so I make it work with lots of outfits. What I don’t like in bags are big logos. Although I have a Dior book tote, I wear it my my name embroidered on the outside and generally enjoy the unique pattern and craftsmanship.

I recently purchased two of the ysl clutches in non-classic colors (vintage peach and sage green) and your voice was ringing in my ears the whole time lol but I did it anyways! I remember your previous videos about the virtues of classic colors for longevity and resale and that really helped me build my collection. But now have so many classic colors and styles, I needed some whimsy. I bought them preloved, below retail, and I'm planning to wear them to death before they are too dated!

Fab, informative video Amie! I wonder what’s happened to Gucci - I feel like the Marmont added so much hype but Gucci has gone quieter since (at least on social media!). I think Fendi peekaboos deserve to have a better resale value, however the pre-loved peekaboos generally seem worse for wear! Xx

I honestly can't tell the difference between my newer styles and my older ones. There's more variation when it comes to lambskin but for the grained leather, I've never noticed a difference. I would say that's particular to the classic flaps though - there's a bigger quality difference in the seasonal styles IMO.

Saint Laurent is part of a lot of the department store sales this year in the US - even in classic colors. The outlets also are getting a lot of neutral shades as well!

I’m not a fan of YSL bags, but it’s not the bag, but those huge letters screwed to all its bags. Those last two bags have a low resale price, because they are not Chanel. Always good to see you.

I mention celine in the video and generally consider their bags to be super classic 😊. Prada is a tricky one because the resale value is pretty horrible but a lot of their styles do look fairly classic. That said, I do think some of their tote styles do look a little outdated now and I’m not sure their newer styles have a lot of staying power. I think it depends if they can update their more classic models to feel more fresh again ❤️

I just got the My ABC white one and I am scared of colour transfer. I find it really annoying when brand discontinues a nice bag which has been around for a while. Like Dior did with Diorama, I remember admirering it in Selfridges and hoping to get it one day, next thing I know they are selling it in outlets 😱

So we have a lot of sneaky storage in our bedroom closet and so I stack boxes within boxes and put them there. BUT if it’s repeat shoe that I know I’m never getting rid of, I’ll just throw it out (especially boots - those boxes are ENORMOUS 😂)

I cannot imagine Chanel increasing prices at the same rate forever. It's simply not sustainable.
