I am sorry but I'm tired of hearing that Martinez's height is a disadvantage because I've personally never seen it hinder him. I don't ever remember him being bullied in the air, in fact Weghourst is 6'6" but I don't remember him winning a header, I mean I'm not joking . The strongest player in the air I've seen in the Premiere Leagues is Kevin Davies and he's 5'11" or 6'0" I think and I remember him dominating players like Zat Knight and others who are way taller the he is. Im saying that being tall or short does not necessarily make you a force or useless aerially coz you have to consider timing and leg strength to spring one up. I'm not saying that someone who is 4 feet is the same as someone who is 6'6" but 5'9" is not 4 feet or even 5 feet.

Baresi was only like 5'9 and is perhaps the greatest CB of all time so was Fabio Cannavaro who won the Ballon D Or playing CB. Sergio Ramos wasn't exactly a huge guy but he could attack a all with his head unlike any defender I've ever seen. Ramos was 6 foot which is consdiered small for a CB now. Mascherano and Puyol both played CB for Barcelona as well. They all did just fine 😆

I totally agree with you, I don’t still understand where this conspiracy theory comes from. Dude has never been bullied aerially in the league but the keep saying he’s too short, like they’ve never seen him play. It’s sickening and they just said he’s not athletic on this episode and I’m still wondering what athletic means 😢

Totally agree and would even add his performance in the fa cup against haaland as another piece of evidence of how height doesn’t matter he physically was all over haaland and gave him 0 joy.

There’s a skill to use your body weight and timings effectively… and Martinez is as good as I’ve seen at this. It covers any natural disadvantage of being shorter than his opponents for things such as areal duels. His technique is a little on the edge, and he cheats a bit to get up there… but the results speak for themselves… he’s a proper quality defender, and one of our very best ball players. So, so happy we signed him!

One helpful change to the PSR/FFP rules would be to spread transfer fees over the period they’re actually paid, not just tied to a player’s contract length which is not part of club to club transfer negotiations

Hancko of feyenoord now playing with Slovakia at the Euros. Could be a great physical leftback/left center back player. Has the hight and strength and speed for these roles. Would cost arround 25 million.

Saliba and Gabrielle cost arsenal 55mil all in. Tomiyasu 16mil and Ben white 50mil. For a little over 100mil they have a solid defence for years to come, THIS is how you do transfers. 2 or 3 cute signings for peanut's, then sprinkle a little magic for 50mil or so. Hate to say it but Arsenal for most of the time have been very smart, and it is a template we have to follow or do better.

lol it’s easy to use the finish product as a reference point. I hear you but this sounds like they got every summer decision right which is not the case. Arsenal had to cycle through the back line before getting to this point i.e., Tavares, mustafis etc.. Shopping for mids and hoping to hit gold sounds like a try and error which ends up being costly. Also prolong the process. Instead bundle the mids and go for young quality one/two players per window at a time, it may seem like a long process but it’s not. The upside is you end up with specialist at every position and a young squad for the next 10yrs. We just have to stay on top and way from silly contracts

Arsenal have historically yet to break into that league of being crazy spenders with insane wages due to the Wenger era & ownership saga, only changed post covid when 1 owner took all control & paid off debts. Better comparison for us would be City who spend just as much as us re transfers & wages but still get far better bragains than we ever do.

@@d.b.cooper1 I don't rate him over any of our players, but take martinelli, 6 mil now worth over 50mil, tomiyasu 16mil probably worth just under 50. Take our buys and none of them (bar) Bruno is worth more than we paid. What I'm saying is Arsenal buy at a good age and can sell for big big profit if they want. We buy AWB for 50mil be lucky to get half that now, Maguire 80mil be lucky if we get 20mil (if he wants to go), and on and on.

A centerback that we were linked to is Bremer from Juventus and i think he would fit us better than branthwaite. I think he’s better on the ball but also looks to be more physically dominant and could give us more grit which i totally agree we need more of in our squad. I have said since the beginning of last season that a 6 who is tenacious and disciplined but can pass and is press resistant will transform the way we play right now. Just look at the last 4 games with Amrabat as 6 we looked like a whole different team compared to how bad we were in the middle of the field most of the season with casemiro and mctominay as 6 and 8 who both technically struggle to do what is the minimum requirements for midfielders to do in successful teams who compete at the top end of our league and other leagues.

FFP the way it currently is, allows owners to invest as much as they want on infrastructure etc. So they can improve training grounds, stadiums, scouting networks etc. Then build it up and do it the right way. It might take 10 years or more, but it should!!! Having said that, I do think a spend cap (fees and wages combined) would be better. It would have to be worldwide though, or English clubs couldn't compete in Europe and Saudi could just gazump everyone!

agree with Ronaldo: Joshua could be pivotal for our team as like martial he will link all the forwards. he is also flexible and can play several positions. Although he was not of sufficient quality Wout was employed in a similar way. Joshua could be a significant upgrade and help us develop the way Ten Hag wants to play

Hope United fans are ready to be patient 😅 As an American who follows the NFL and NBA, I find international football fans really impatient and don’t understand what a rebuild entails. The constant moaning about “not challenging” for the PL or CL is laughable to me when this team is no where near the levels needed. We need 2-3 more summers.

It’s absolutely true that United needs time (and 3-4 years is probably right, if it’s done just right), but the NBA is not a good comparison. Relegation, promotion, and no salary cap makes European football and any American professional sport (including the MLS) completely incomparable. If anything, it’s likely harder to build quickly in American sports, as salary caps and the draft mechanics make for parity. If United were competently run, we’d not have been languishing for more than a decade: we have resources beyond what anyone but the oil clubs have.

People often argue about what made Fergie the greatest premier league (or even football) manager of all time… was it man management, tactics, a mix? One of the things I think is often overlooked is that Ferguson (and his bosses and his subordinates) were constantly rebuilding. Absolute stars went out (sometimes too early) on a regular basis, and young players came through both the academy and were bought for, often, sizable fees. Without decent ownership and a stable, supportive hierarchy and setup at the club level, it will be impossible for United to ever reach the heights again.

I think there are 2 flaws in the argument here. The first is that any club that tries to grow or had a good player in their team. I'm thinking all the West Ham players in the 90s, Wright Phillips for City etc. The 2nd you look at Bayern in Germany, I wouldn't want that.

RVN is a clever appointment from INEOS if they want to negotiate with ETH. It weakens ETHs threat of walking out now when arguing for X in his contract because RVN could step into the job as a caretaker very quickly.

I really don't see why the lower teams can't spend as much as United or whoever earns the most and that be the cap if they have proof or funds and aren't spending money they don't have like Leeds or Portsmouth years ago. How is not still sport it's still 11 vs 11 on pitch then if a team goes on to win it's purely down to whoever best not down to who's got the best sponsorship deals or income that actually the exact opposite of sport. United have spent very close to City in the last 10 years and haven't been anywhere near them money alone isn't enough for success.

If you watch the youth teams play it’s very clear what ETH has been doing with the club youth, they have a system that they play too, there are at least 4 to 6 players who could be in out first team as it stands….
