Great work Nic. Another thoughtful deep dive into the impacts of these new announcements around Planner, Project, Teams and To Do. I am definitely looking forward to tighter integration and clear task management direction in Microsoft 365.

Thanks for the overview of what's coming in Planner. I'm excited to see more integration, as you noted, rather than having to try to piece together 10 different tools to manage everything from big projects to single, small tasks. Thanks for giving your thoughts on what's coming and what pitfalls to watch out for.

I completely agree with you when you say that Microsoft should not push premium licenses for more functionality. Microsoft should focus more on service and features than on a revenue model. service is an attitude!

Thanks for watching. Microsoft should be trying to drive revenue, but the end-user is - in general - not their customer (i.e. the person actually signing up and paying the biils), so I think they should focus on those customers rather than users.

I've never used the task management tools from MS in any form other than occasionally adding Outlook items to a To-do list that then sits unupdated for years. I've never used Teams for anything but an Instant Messaging tool and an occasional online meeting. I wonder how well, if used correctly, these tools, either pre-existing or future, might be able to replace Atlassian for non-dev teams and projects. And how long would it take to become familiar with these tools?

Thanks for watching. If you’re using something like Trello then the concepts in Planner are very similar. The big benefit is the overlap with the rest of Microsoft 365. It comes down to what features you need and whether there are niche features in the 3rd party app that are critical for you. It’s certainly worth another look once the new planner features come online.

Thanks for the video. Microsoft seriously needs to do more work to streamline its tools and to communicate their long-term plan. Between Planner, Project, Loop, To Do, and other 365 tools we have about half a dozen tools trying to each solve parts of the work / project management challenge, often times with capabilities that directly overlap each other's. It is hard to tell which tool or tools are going to be the ones still standing at the end of 2024 or even 2025, and it is a pain to have to keep jumping from one to the other as it causes so many issues with compatibility, user engagement, and efficacy to the organization.

Thanks for watching. Microsoft’s products are options upon options for much the same thing. This means organizations either need to choose or drown in a pool of incompatible but similar functionality. Hopefully this update starts to change that on the task creation side of things.

When is this coming to fruition in the UK please as the number of named project apps from Microsoft is absurd, trying to integrate a way to plan business projects and then move the projects into tasks for my colleagues to use on Teams and their planner so that they can see any tasks assigned to them

Another question - How will this play with Azure DevOps Boards? We use this in our dev/consultancy teams to track tasks however customer focuses tasks are in Teams planner boards....
@brightideasagency
@brightideasagency 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. AFAIK there still isn't any Planner/Boards integration directly today and I didn't see anything related to this in the announcement. There are I think integrations for Project Online but this is different than Project for the Web, so I think this may be something that falls in a gap, at least initially.

📝 Summary of Key Points: 📌 Microsoft 365 is addressing the problem of multiple task management methods across its apps by introducing the new Planner app. 🧐 The Planner app aims to unify task management across Microsoft 365, allowing users to scale from simple to-do lists to complex projects. 🚀 The app will incorporate features from existing apps like Task by Planner, To-Do, Microsoft Project, and other tools. 🚀 A basic version of the Planner app will be available to all Microsoft 365 users, with premium features requiring an upgraded license. 🚀 Premium features will include AI integration and advanced project setups. 🚀 The goal is to create a unified experience for task management, reducing confusion and improving productivity. 🚀 Questions remain about the extent of task integration and whether there will be a common foundation for all task management apps. 🚀 There may be additional costs associated with accessing premium features. 💡 Additional Insights and Observations: 💬 "The new Planner app will allow users to have a single place to manage all their tasks and projects within Microsoft 365." 📊 No specific data or statistics were mentioned in the video. 🌐 The information in the video is based on Microsoft's announcement and plans for the new Planner app. 📣 Concluding Remarks: The introduction of the new Planner app by Microsoft 365 aims to address the problem of fragmented task management across its apps. By unifying task management and incorporating features from existing apps, Microsoft hopes to improve productivity and reduce confusion. However, the extent of task integration and potential additional costs for premium features are still unclear. Overall, this update has the potential to greatly enhance task management within Microsoft 365 for individuals and teams. Generated using Talkbud (Browser Extension)

It is hard for me to reconcile MS's own research with the direction of this work. Basing anything on To-Dos seems like a weak foundation.

50% agree with you. But this kind of video is pretty good actually; for watching during your working break/toilet visit 😏etc. ... I found this video useful in terms of learning holistically the task management scenario/problem and what's coming up. But YES, I agree, there's a bit too much talking when there could have been more showing.

@@DarrellaaSyou could take on board this guy's feedback though. It appears from your reply that you've 100% dismissed this person's feedback 😔 There is ALWAYS room for improvement in all our work. He has a point! You can still make your longer videos (he's not suggesting 2min vids). He's suggesting you show a little more, instead of show so much you at a desk.
