I want to say this is the best fan game I've picked up since Uranium. Regional variants slap, including the starters. Story progression is novel and paced well to the point that it's hard to lose interest in any specific level bracket. Can't wait for it to get finalized.

When I first played Vanguard, I just loved it, however the thing that kept me from playing more was the small small level caps between the story. Like my team by Lv.14 and then once I unlocked the next cap, it was Lv.17. That was the only thing that prevented me from enjoying the game. But seeing this video, I’m definitely jumping back in, and the caps won’t stop me this time!

There are a lot of ways to easily catch up on exp. From optional bosses to buyable exp candies at the academy!

​@ayrei1503 you completely misunderstood that complaint, hitting the exp cap doesn't need any extra xp because you have them set so low, once you hit the cap you have no reason to have pokemon battles except to continue the story which can be demotivating so hitting that cap quicker is not a solution to the issue he/she put forth.

@@TheVindicitive Thanks man, you understood it so well. This is my only complaint. Actually you also hit the cap so fast cause the exp gain is actually solid. So you unlock the cap, have 2 battles, reach the next cap, then have 8 more battles where the exp is not required. For sure it felt that you were battling for nothing. Soft cap would be great here tbh

​@@dankageradioIf you are lucky, you can even "cheat" the level cap 🤣 I've had the cap at 17 but my Spearow managed to get to 18 after a trainer battle, he was close to 17 and got enough exp to get to 18 xD This led to a bug (all my pokemon got 1 exp, even those not at cap) which got fixed by restarting

I honestly wasn't sure about the level cap, but then I realized it made every battle feel more challenging and I was more focused on the story and keen strategy than managing the levels of my mons. I can't say I'll always like a level capped game... but this feels right. This is probably the first time I was comfortable with level caps.

In my own fangame the protagonists have a voice and personality, and I was afraid nobody would like it, but not only there is you, no one is complaining about it in the comments. Originately, I had three voiced protagonists that worked like GTA V's trio. But as time and development goes by, I went both up to six playable protagonists, and actually down to one to play. Similarly to Dragon Quest games, you start picking one out of the shortlist, and unlock the others along the way. But the ones you unlock aren't beginners. Also I combined and enhanced multiple scripts so that you can actually team up with or battle against your own teams. It only makes sense because the characters exist in the same reality, they're not switchable avatars.

I guess weedle becomes a dragon 🤣 Ive atarted with snivy and noticed that there are a lot of fire attacks in the early game and a lot of pokemon weak to it (my first team of 6 was all weak to fire, ive noticwd it after a few fire opponents) and the only options aginst them were a water starter of fletching

Is there a way to customize your team? I’ve always loved themed teams like all dragons or all cats. Sometimes swamp Pokémon and sometimes a haunted forest with grass and ghost types. It’d be fun if a game had a way to do that somehow

To be honest, I think those quality of life features sound a bit excessive. I'm fine with being able to assign EVs (it reminds me how how MegaTen handles the player's level ups), but infinite repels and being able to set abilities and natures on catch is a step too far in my opinion.
