I’m not a “track guy” or even someone who’s pretends they can drive better than someone else. The thing is, I will buy a GT3 or GT3 RS in the next few years, but unfortunately I won’t be able to buy a new one, because I’m not a part of special list of people who get them.

I'm guessing this is where the magic happens. Years ago, I did my degree in real-time systems engineering. One of the limitations was that's often sense/sample, process, act, repeat. Even with state-of-the art DSPs, the costs were very high, and performance limited. Now the silicon's improved, so have sensors so modern engine management systems have a lot more 'horsepower' to do complex computing @9000rpm. Personally, I think one of the most fun technology innovations driven by extra compute power is the ability to have multiple driving modes that remap the engine management depending on whether you want economy, or power.

It's amazing. The _only_ thing that makes me sad about this car is that there's still no mis-shift protection for the manual. In a car that's obviously intended for the track, that seems like a huge missed opportunity. When you're pulling significant Gs and trying to shift as fast as possible, mis-shifts are a possibility; you can be as careful as you want, but the risk is there that you'll have one eventually-and in a GT3, that'd be tragic. There could be an electro-mechanical lockout of lower gears when the current wheel speed would put the car over redline in that gear. The added cost wouldn't be worth it for your average econobox, but for a manual GT3 that's designed for the track, well, it's something I'd really like to see.

I like the modern turbo motors. That mid-range torque is addicting. I used to like rapping out motors and banging gears but no more. Gimme that low down power and PDK. My dream is the Porsche Turbo.

I studied these phenomenon for my master's thesis at Georgia Tech, it was very interesting... It is not that tricky to simulate, however there is still the need for empirical tinkering. It is much easier to do in ITBs, and I applied this to my first bike, 1977 honda CB 125 Twin that I already enabled to breathe until 14.000 RPM and overbored. 47mm bore, 41mm stroke. The tricky part was that the original intake path was a bit long to amplify either torque (maxed at 10.500 rpm) or power (maxed at 11.500rpm), so I had to cut the intake pipes. Each cylinder is filled with a 22mm carb with 3D printed velocity stacks and plenum, that makes use of resonance and ram air charging. Remember however, if like me you do this with no moving parts and only one configuration, you will experience low pressure waves at other rpms (6500 rpm in my case). However, if your gearing is correct, you should never get that low. This engine is now good for 22bhp at 11.700 rpm with 142cc of displacement, which makes for about 155 bhp/L. It can rev happily to 14.000rpm (after that, those old 6V points are overwhelmed). It makes it one of the fastest 4 stroke "125" I've ever seen, as this little 1977 machine tops up fully tucked at 87 MPH gps (140 km/h for us European). There is still a bit more to find with 12v CDI ignition, a bit more advance and sleeving the carbs to 21.5mm. Yes, reducing your carbs size can give you a better torque curve at critical rpm... Else, I could bore it to around 150/155 and still use the 22mm to the same effect.

The envy never subsides, as it’s not the getting of the car that is beyond most nearly all of us. It’s the cost of maintenance/ownership.
@Gergaferg3 жыл бұрын
I really dont think that if you can afford a 150k car that maintenance and owneership costs are what hold back most ppl. Its the fact that youre buying or leasing a 150k car first and foremost and if you can afford that then, the odds of not being able to afford maintenance are much lower. This is different than owning a 60k bmw. The maintenance costs are not 3 times higher for all things. At most it is 1.5 to 2 times higher for a car worth nearly 3 times as much.

A lotta dependence on fiscal homeostasis in that response. Pretty funny to me, in current era. I never held half of a tangible $10,000 in my hands, though. I am also as ignorant as they come in more categories than I am an expert in those within which I am not. So there is that.

I kinda lost respect for them when all I see is porche SUVs around all the time and no true porches. The porche market appeals to rich dad's with no car knowledge.

@@TimberWulfIsHere Except that their SUVs and Panameras bring in the money for the development of real sports cars. I have never understood why some car enthusiasts think that a brand is forced to _only_ manufacture cars _they_ like. If you like the GT3, get one. And be happy that Porsche builds them. But don't whine because of the Cayenne and Macan, that's pathetic.
@TimberWulfIsHere3 жыл бұрын
@@babelhuber3449 it's not pathetic. Why would I spend half a million on a car brand that is now associated with naive rich guys? It's completely off-putting and ruins brand imagine. It's why lamborghini restrict customisation on their cars and there have been legal cases where people have riced them so much, that the boys at lambo sued the buyers. I'm going to be picky with high end manufacturers as they would be with their cars.
@babelhuber34493 жыл бұрын
@@TimberWulfIsHere Because I personally buy what I like. I don't care about the points you are making, they are non-issues for me. I also don't care about what other people think. Or do. A GT3 is cool on its own, this has nothing to do with any Cayenne. It's your money, buy what you want with it for any reason you like. But I think your reasoning is pathetic. Deal with it.

I lost all respect for Porsche when they put a 4 cylinder in the Cayman. And then gained back after they offered a manual GT3 again. Also can we put Mazda on the list? Seems like they're the last manufacturer that cares about driving dynamics on the lower end of the spectrum. Sad they don't have a performance car.
