I love the Passat even though they have recalls. I have a 2008 Passat Kormfort model. I love it. Passats can be good cars if you don’t drive them like crazy a person. They are not sports cars. My Passat has the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo engine that puts out 200 horsepower. The newer engines of this type only put out 170 horsepower. I’ve seen used ones like mine with nice bodies for 5k!

How does one know if used R Lines have the lighting package? It’s hard to tell online if it has the lighting package. Cars.com doesn’t list LED headlights on any of the used ones.

The r line in black is beautiful and looks like an audi from the rear if rear spoiler is added.

I bought a 17 Passat R-line new, I've never owned a VW because of reliability issues but I got such a good deal and I liked the styling and I thought "well its a 2017 I'm sure VW has improved in reliability" well I was wrong, less then 15k miles and my AC had to be replaced, steering wheel clock spring, and my windshield from multiple cracks literally every week I had a new crack. Ridiculous for less than 15k miles. I'm ditching it for the new 2018 Accord.

Love the car, but I may go sel model and put on the aftermarket R line grill. Sel are way more equipped. Also not a fan of the 19" wheel. Should be either 18 or 20 to get better tire prices. The dark blue is an awesome color.

Now that would look sweet. The SEL is a much nicer car than the one in the video, but yet I love the R-Line grill. I'm surprised that Volkswagen does not put the R-Line package on the higher trim levels. I filmed the R-Line Atlas a few weeks ago and it also was just a SE not SEL.

Right. But this isn't a Passat R, it's a Passat "R-Line". The engine and everything else is exactly the same as a regular Passat 1.8T. There will never be a Jetta R, at least here in the US. There is no market for it. VW did sort of make a Passat R called the R36 but it was never here in the US. So, the closest thing we'll ever get to a Jetta R is the GLI, but it's like comparing apples to oranges as you said.

no they don't all come with LED's. you have to get a certain package with them on it. SEL I believe.

VW is not fer!!! Check European passat much better looking especially R line. And that emergency brake is embarrassing they have electrical. They have to step up with 2018. Anyway very good and honest review👍😀

thanks for your comment Ante Zoric. yes many vehicles in this segment have eletronic park brakes now in 2017. I do hope to see some upgrades in 2018, but I have a feeling the Passat is getting a full make over in 2019 or 20.

Well Volkswagen's Golf R is the most high performance car they sell - therefore I would assume that any other car labeled as "R line" should be considered the sportiest version of that car.

I wish Volkswagen would give the R-Line the Vr6 Engine as well or at least give it more cylinders and more horse power..... I mean I feel like Volkswagen could add some more power to their cars!!!! Hey Chance, wow I'm really feeling you right now. Yes it upsets me as well with VW not putting more performance into the engines of these cars. really your only option right now for a performance driven volkswagen is buying a Golf R or at least here in the United States. Seems like Audi offers some kind of performance version of each model they offer. A3 or S3, A4 S4, A5 S5, A6 S6 etc etc....... I worked with the Audi brand here in Charleston then in Savannah and in Jacksonville, FL. all the stores I worked with also had a VW store right next door. seemed like the customers that wanted a performance vehicle would have to walk over to Audi and look. Anyways yes its sucks, but I guess we just have to play the waiting game.

Bro if you want more power in a Passat just have Stage 3 APR software installed with an IS38 turbo upgrade - then you will have a 360 horsepower Passat! I'm buying an R-line Passat soon and that's what I'm doing to get more power
