Rock Island Armory's new 5.0 pistol is a new design and made in the US at their new factory in UT. The pistol has an ultra low bore axis and a square barrel surface for improved slide lockup. It's also hammer fired, with a trigger feel more like a traditional metal framed single action pistol.

This is a great concept and there is a great and established company behind it. There have been quite a few interesting and innovative designs in the last few years and this one seems to be the one that will survive. I am also a big fan of nice and light triggers and not having to spend a bunch of money and time to get it after buying a gun is great. Thanks RIA for just going for it, I can't wait to get one in my hands.

The most innovative design from Mr Fred Craig as he leaves RIA. This is the best news yet from the CEO Martin Tualson. They will eventually have a 4.25 " and other calibers including the crazy fast and cheap to shoot 22Tcm. This guy is a true American! He may have been born in the Phillipines but he is giving back as much as he can to the USA you can tell. As soon as the 4.25 comes out I'll be in line for one.

Sure, the back strap may go up high but/t look how low the trigger is, which forces the wrist to bend down, which will then flick up! An ideal pistol keeps a straight wrist.

The lock-up is kind of similar to Beretta, but not quite there. On a Beretta, the barrel drops a bit, on this one the block is the only bit moving up and down as the slide cycles.

RIA 5.0, In my opinion it's an impressive engineering marvel. I want to own one just because of the genius design. 10mm ammunition is the second most sold in the US after 9mm. I'm hoping, that all of you who love the 10mm cartridge, will help try convince Rock Island to “evolve” a RIA 5.0 into a 6" version in 10mm auto. A RIA 6.0!!! It might be that the RIA 5.0 is in the league of like the Laugo Arms Alien. But as a 6" 10mm Auto it would, in my opinion, be the best 10mm pistol ever created. The design obviously works well for 9mm, but it appears intended for the more powerful 10mm Auto cartridge. In my opinion a RIA 6.0 10 mm would leave the SIG P220 Elite 10mm looking like a dinosaur.

At a price of 1k $ in the US, the 5.0 will probably reach our shores with a 2k $ price due to taxes on imported FAs. This puts it in competition with many of the Sig and H&K models locally available. I guess this model will not be very popular here.

You can't find .22 TCM ammo? You must be a dullard then. Keep that same energy about 10mm and 5.7 guns then. Real full power 10mm is very rare, with all common 10mm just being long cased and higher cost .40 s&w. 5.7 on the other hand is semi rare, has few loads to pick from, and is entirely pointless in the civilian world where you can't get the AP ammo to use the round for it's intended purpose. Why wouldn't the baby rock be blowback? It's .380. Did you moan about the Sig 938, Kimber micro, or Springfield 911 not being real 1911s too 😂? How about the new FN Hipower not being a faithful to original design production?

The Russian one? Idk if you mean the alien and the h9 but neither were/are notably unreliable afaik, and the alien is still in production. The h9 stopped production for entirely separate reasons. The maxim as well, was discontinued for other reasons beyond reliability. A lot of this is how many people actually want to pay for leaps in innovation that offer only minor improvements to existing systems, it doesnt always pay well to be a trend setter when many don’t realize and/or appreciate the significance of something until after its gone. If it were easy to oem a system from the ground up and offer it msrp for 500$, while being loaded with current expected features and have mag compatibility with everything and still turn a profit on top of all that more companies likely would
