So glad you are looking after your mental health and happiness but I miss the days you were filled with the setup (and specifically truck) madness. You are by far the best and most descriptive reviewer in the game. I must admit, I’m not ready to give up my own madness but as a lower income father of 2, I just can’t afford to buy and try. I genuinely miss living vicariously through you Ben. But keep making videos, even if they are madness free!

@@TheIcebomber it’s always thinking there is something you could change about your setup that would improve your skating. I gotta say I love my 144 Royals. Wanted to try something else from thunders, so I scooped up some Ventures on a crazy good sale. Really liked the pop and stability, learned some new tricks on them, but hated the turn, the bushings suck in the cold and the pivot cups are suuuper loud. And now Royals mix the best traits of both Venture and Thunder for me. I'm a big fan of the bushings and the pivot cups do feel great. Mine haven't squeaked yet. They nailed the stability to turning ratio. I just gotta play with deck wheelbase now as I couldn't manual very well on the shitty 14.25 wb globe deck that I'm using for the winter. Ironically I could nose/switch manny better than regular. Don't be a stranger Ben!

I got an 8" wide set with the inverted kingpin back in early 2020 (before COVID) and one of the kingpin nuts were cross-threaded into place. Never experienced that with a new truck. Aside from that, I thought they were a good truck. Very average but better than Venture. The grind was kind of heavy if that makes sense. Like you, I didn't have anything bad to say about them aside from the questionable quality control with that cross-threaded kingpin nut. They were just a really good but they did not amaze me. I would not choose them over Indy or the Tensor ATG.

I love Royals. Bushings are straight trash. Pivot cups too. But if you add a washer underneath some thunder bushings ( with bushing washer) they are the damn ferrari of trucks. Been watching your vids for awhile. I always thought the Bullet trucks were the red-headed stepchild. I like Bullet very much but they seem to get a-lot of hate. I have some complaints about how trucks are sold. They usually don't show the inside or back so you can see what type of bushings they use, they don't tell you the height, they don't go into details that are important and I wonder why they don't spec them out. On another note - I'm looking for regular skateboard trucks that are the same height as standard Indy's that I can dump the 96a Independent barrels in the top and bottom. I put a longer kingpin in Indy's and was able to put the barrels in there but I'd like other options as well for trucks. One main problem with the Indy's with a longer kingpin is that the nut on the kingpin is higher than the hanger.

Ben, question about wheelbase and pop. I always hear Indy provide quicker pop and Thunder a heavier nose feeling because of wheelbase. Recently tho I set up the same board and wheels with Indy 144 forged hollow and then switched to Thunder 144. I put the tail down and marked on the wall where the nose hit with each set up. They were basically the same, with the Indy’s nose Mark being about a mm higher than the Thunder. Wouldn’t this mean the Indy forged hollow would create a heavier nose and more pop potential than the Thunder?

It’s like a teeter totter if you move the centre point! Also the forged Indy almost matches in axle height with regular thunders because you lose a about 2mm of the axle height from thinning the baseplate.
