I’m sure they realized there is currently a high demand for lever actions and wanted to get in on the action.

I just want S&W to produce a modern Third Model Schofield top break revolver. Not just do a reissue.
@CaveWyatt Жыл бұрын
You need a short length of deer antler to push that last round past the loading gate. Save your fingers! Wrap some leather around the big end for a grip. Looks extra cool and works like a charm.
@JustinOpinionChannel Жыл бұрын
Great suggestion!
@ruststar Жыл бұрын
You can also use another cartridge to push the last one all in, seems simpler than carrying some length of antler

You will for sure. I had horrible luck with the ability to spend range time with it, and only had a short time available. I'll get it back out for more thorough testing and a lot more fun just as soon as I can!

For those who care, the LOP according to S&W is between 12.-13" vs the Henry Model X's 14". I just got off the phone with both and Henry has no plans for a shorter LOP though you can order wood furniture for it for about $150 and cut it down yourself. Since the Henry Model X is their only center-fire with a factory threaded barrel and this 1854 comes with it with a shorter LOP, this appears to be a pretty good deal.

I was going to measure LOP for the next installment. I'm not a big guy, and I can tell you that I really appreciated how comfortable this thing is to shoulder and shoot.

Is it offered in 500 s&w mag? What is the other calibers and will they go big bore like 30-30 and 45-70 Love that they went with the feed tube and side gate like Hennry. Only thing I'd like to see is a standard barrel mount rear site so you can go with a traditional style see thru scope mount like most lever guns did back in the day.

Interesting rifle. You and Honest Outlaw both with reviews today. How do you think this compares to a Henry 44 lever? The Henry with the optional tube loading is nicer for those COLD days. Also....where are the dang pump-action rifles? A pump-action 44 carbine? Yes please...
@JustinOpinionChannel Жыл бұрын
Tube loading option would have been nice indeed! But I do have to say that the side gate was not nearly as tight as I expected it to be - but in the frigid temps I only loaded five at a time - so I still have to test it out with full spring tension.

As much as I want one, that price is nuts!... I really like S&W, but I can get the job done a lot cheaper than $1300 bucks. Maybe if the rest of life didn't cost so much, I think I could have afforded it a few years ago.

Justin I completely understand about cold weather. I was wondering about gloves used for shooting. I have some cheap ones from Harbor Freight and they work okay, but I'd never wear them in sub freezing weather. Any recommendations? Thanks.
@JustinOpinionChannel11 ай бұрын
It's a conundrum. To shoot, you need thin, tight gloves - which will not keep your fingers warm. If I have to use shooting gloves due to the cold, I also use hand warmers and in between "takes" warm my hands in my pockets. For wildlife photography and other outdoor activities, I have really thick insulated gloves with finger cutouts and mitten covers so I can still work controls.

Does your trigger have a lot of play while cocked? Scootch’s looked to have a solid 1/2” of free play while cocked, which seems like a very odd design decision. It might make/break it for me
@JustinOpinionChannel11 ай бұрын
The trigger "dangles" when you work the action and does have a loose feeling and some play in it. Once you move it past the take-up, it tightens up to a firm/crisp break. It is an odd characteristic, but does not seem to have much impact. I'll test and demo this in more detail in the next video.

Honestly from a blue collar stand point. First the price of 44mag is ridiculous n second if i along with most IMOO am gonna spend $1200 on a lever gun ill go for the new Marlin by Ruger or a Henry n i think most people gonna go for the .357/.38 over the .44. Just my opinion n i know they all stink. Lol

$1200.00 for a lever gun is uh a lot. Just about any other lever rifle is cheaper. That's the thing I do not like about S@W, they want premium for anything and everything they put out. Brand new ,but they want top tier for it. That's why I always go with proven dependability for less. Like Henry or Winchester or Marlin. I'll pass on this one.

Another rifle with the tube that is shorter than the barrel I don’t understand it. It doesn’t look right
@JustinOpinionChannel Жыл бұрын
That's a traditional profile for a carbine with a tubular magazine. Also, it helps keep one's hand from passing in front of the muzzle.
@hillbillync655 Жыл бұрын
This rifle has a threaded barrel so it has to extend past the tube to use a shusher.
