*A few additional notes!* 1) StrobePro is a Canadian company that ships to USA (they sell tons of Godox products) 2) *Every mount exist* for the optical snoot (even Speedotron) - I use my snoot with a GODOX ad400 PRO (bowens adapter) 3) I STRONGLY recommend buying the 50mm kit if it's your first optical snoot 4) Other sellers sell this exact version of the snoot but warranty and mileage may vary 5) I'm working on a case solution for those on the go

I bought the old version about a year ago, and I pretty much agree with your assessment here. If you have the old one, the price is too high to buy the new one to replace it, but if you've never bought one before, the improvements are nice to have. Personally, I'd ditch their lens and buy a cheap used one (or use one of my own) like you said. I like using 35 & 85mm lenses to change the amount of light that comes out of the snoot.

I have a question, the Ef optics you have to use are completely manual optics?

As an early adopter of the version 1 with a nifty fifty up front, I agree the biggest drawback is the non-rotating mount. It can be turned; just not easily. Worth the upgrade right there. Initially I was using an ADb2 head and found it under-powered. Moving up to a QS600 works fine. Really wish I had bought an 800. These things swallow light. Gobo; the new package is also worth the investment just for those metal sheets. Rosco makes gobos that fit if you can find a retailer and have a good supply of cash. Didn't go Aliexpress route. I have been experimenting with cutting my own gobos out of cinefoil. My wife has a Cricut decal machine that does a reasonable job on the foil. Not perfect yet but it is early in the experiment. The other improvement I am testing is to move from the gobo frame being held in place by shaped washers (what a pain). I'm going to mount small magnets on the snoot and frame using heat resistant glue. Overall this was a very good review with lots of great information. Toy or tool? That is hard to say. But if you like creative control... optical snoots have a lot to offer.

Did the gel melt in the gobo because you forgot to take the plastic off the gel?
