As far as the best thing to come out of Russia ever I say no. The Mig-21 will always be the “best” thing to ever come out of Russia. It’s a good aircraft that is still in use today and they made TONS of them and exported a ton as well. Nothing will ever be greater than it as far as monetary gain and it’s legendary status goes. Now as far as it’s capabilities there’s no way to tell yet. Do I still think it will be a solid aircraft though? Most likely, we’ll just have to see.

It’s a export plane meant to boost sales to countries that can’t afford heavy fighters and is not intended for the Russian Aerospace Forces. The Su-30, Su-35S, and Su-57 will be the mainstay of the Russian Air Force for the next 20-30 years and a smaller number of the new Mig-35 will exist mostly for attack missions and to complement the Su-34 and Su-25. This is Mainly because Russia does not have the need for small fighters, only heavy long range fighters with maximum performance and load out. Russia uses fighters first as a complement to their extensive Air defense network to further complicate a potential adversaries plans regarding SEAD missions, second to control airspace over specific areas of operations, and finally third for escort of ground attack and reconnaissance aircraft. Russian doctrine is set in mostly defensive long range war so their need for the Su-75 is rather limited.

My impression is, that the top air two air platform from sukhoi still is the Su-57 and the Su-75 is the more cost efficient and versatile aircraft, that is intended to be good for the export market. A little bit like the F-16 and F-15 back in the day.

@@KevinJDildonik Very unlikely Pakistan is going to use something like this - given they've thrown their lot in with the Chinese. Now with the Americans no longer providing 'aid' for them to use to bolster their forces instead of fighting terrorism - they probably won't be buying the Checkmate any time soon. India on the other hand? Perhaps - but their Rafale acquisition and Tejas induction won't make any sense. Indonesia, Phillipines, Malaysia, Singapore? Now there's a market there.

I would have to agree. It most likely will be like most of all of the Russian made fighters in the past 40 years. Good airframe, powerful engines and electronics decades behind the western countries counterparts. Russia looking to make inroads to the F-16 export market maybe? At the price point they are claiming it does not sound like much. Unless it has some major new radar development that allows it to see stealth aircraft at a distance it will not be any type or adversary for the F-22, You can't shoot what you can't see.

Re, the engine. It uses the same engine as the su-57, and is expected to use the same future engine as the su-57, with thrust vectoring, when that one is available. So in short, for now, it uses the same engine as the su-57, and has no thrust vectoring. So we can expect a modest demonstrator. Millenium7* made a good video, analyzing it. Personally, I think this is a kickstarter. If they actually end up getting buyers, then yes it will become what they promise. (probably) But the Russian gov isn't investing in it. So if there are no buyers, a demonstrator will be as far as it goes. The interesting part of the SU-75, is how they took a lot of inspiration from the Gripen in how it is made. It certainly looks like they are trying out the Saab design philosophy on it. (but that could also be marketing bs,, we'll see.)

On the price thing, I can see how it might be possible. When it comes down to it the materials of the object don’t cost 10’s of millions of dollars. So the manufacturing and profit (profit cover development costs) is the real cost of these vehicles. Do you know what the power output/requirements are for an airborne early warning and detection system? Felon is no AWAC, it's more of a mobile cell tower for their datalink network. Felon will coordinate as a mobile command and control for airborne assets and ground controllers, to limit radiation emissions that can be seen and prosecuted.

The sensors are nothing revolutionary on the SU-57, and in fact the F-35's sensor suite outclasses it. Which isn't too surprising. The Su-57 is most likely going to be completely canceled as the aircraft itself has struggled to meet its design goals and it's manufacturing goals. It's stealth is nowhere near to the level of the F-22 or F-35. Russia has canceled mass production and they've barely managed to make one operational. Also how is a non-stealth aircraft such as the Su-57, which has an RCS that is over 1000x larger than both the F-22 and F-35, supposed to hunt down stealth aircraft? It would get absolutely annihilated attempting to do so. The Su-57's best bet to surviving would be to either stay as far away as possible from any F-22 or F-35 and let his buddies basically commit suicide, or attempt a one in a million strategy of trying to rush it to a merge (which of course would most likely result in the Su-57 getting AMRAMM'd before it had a chance of finding it). And this is even assuming the Su-57 is good in a merge, which as much as we know about the AIM-9x, the Su-57 may get beat there too. Combined with the fact Russian pilots have less flight hours and training this is more so.

@@A_Nice_Guy. To be called any sort of AWAC it needs to generate power in the range of at least one (1) megawatt. A small nuclear power plant produces 500 megawatts. A megawatt can power about 1,000 modern homes. If the Felon could produce that and not be screaming at full throttle to power electric generators, while barely at stall speed, it would be an engineering miracle, like Marty McFly and his Mr. Fusion.

@@weasle2904 The Su-57 is not revolutionary in it's sensor suite, however it is the first manufactured aircraft featuring side mounted radars as a fighter/interceptor (the F-22 was meant to get it before it, but it hasn't had any delivered yet). And, just like with the Americans and other nations, it does have a data link capability. The stealth capabilities shouldn't be, exaggerated by any means on this aircraft, however it, with the help of other radars from both aircraft and other sources, would help it fill the role that it's meant to fill, protecting the homeland, as with data link guided missiles, it can achieve such things. And let's not forget jamming. In a high intensity conflict, neither the F-22 nor Su-57 will really be godly because, in a conflict which is high intensity, your radar is basically blind due to 10% of the world's jamming equipment being stuffed in your face, and you're probably quite busy with literally every single missile warning system screeching at you the moment you show anything other than your nose to your enemy.

Engine choice will affect the pricing as well, with the cheapest model probably using the older Saturn AL-41, instead of the upcoming izdeliye 30. So whatever you may think of the SU-75, until it is flying, we have no idea what this thing will be capable of. I am on the fence on this one, it came out of nowhere, in my opinion the Russians have built some of thee most capable fighters ever built and are only second to the F-15 and F-22 in that order. @The Front Those aircraft have been "being built" for years. They don't even have the right engine yet so they're not even building finalized versions. Also the SU-57 is not a stealth aircraft, it's at most a low observable aircraft. This is likely the main reason India was so utterly disappointed and instantly dropped the program they moment they got to see a flyable prototype. The SU-57 based on ball park RCS numbers has a 500-1000x larger RCS than the F-22 and F-35, which is pretty bad. It might as well not be a stealth aircraft at all.

Should be interesting to see how it performs at the airshow! Except both the F-22 and F-35 were designed under the doctrine of being incredibly maneuverable... If you hope to achieve air superiority you have to get into the fray, this is why every country and their mom is designing air superiority fighters that can dogfight. It's impossible to even imply you can achieve air superiority in a conflict without dogfighting. We haven't seen the scale of war these weapons are being designed for.
@skyhorseprice6591
@skyhorseprice6591 3 жыл бұрын
@Kondor999 Yes dogfights are now very rare. But one thing has been proved, especially with the F-4 Phantom in Vietnam (when the experts confidently claimed that WVR dogfighting was dead, and Migs were crushing gunless Phantoms) _air combat is highly fluid and chaotic_ . This means that taking guns off fighters and/or ignoring high AoA/post departure capability is unwise. Remember, after all the F-35 h8ers babbled on for years about _cant turn cant run can't climb_ .....once the F-35 was cleared at 9G and full block 3F capability, it turned out to be very agile. The reign of sensor fusion and stealth will likely keep most air combat in BVR. But when larger battles between peer nations do occur, we can count on merges happening. When they do, the jet that cannot dogfight dies.

@@karjalasta Sweet nit-picking, buddy. That doesn't remove the fact that literally every "next gen" aircraft being produced right now has heavy emphasis on maneuvering. And don't bullshit that the F-22 cant maneuver, from what we know already it's one of the best jet fighters ever produced. That's also why every country and their mothers have been trying to make copies of it. It's literally so on top of the market that it isnt even in the market. The F-35 is incredible as well. It's lackluster in comparison to a dedicated air superiority fighter for obvious reasons, but it's dogfighting performance is top notch, especially considering its multi-role.
