@@averyodowd6448 The Sleep spell caster DPS get is actually very versatile for wall to wall pulls in groups without a Whitemages holy stun. Since it's multi target and mobs once asleep don't wake up until hit, it can give your tank and healer breathing room in case the tank is low geared or something. Though I think it loses it's utility after a while. It's also worth a shot if the tank dies. Gives you all 30 seconds to adjust long as nobody freaks out.

Then you get the Summoner mains who make sure to weave Phoenix regen when the raid is together just before a raidwide to take off some pressure from the healers, and those ones are such a treat, I wish we could commend in premades. I'll just repair their gear instead.

Here's a secret - they don't, it's just the point in their rotation when phoenix is up. If the raid was split up for 10 seconds more, they wouldn't hold phoenix to help with the healing, it's just a side-benefit of their rotation. You don't thank a bard for providing buffs with their songs, right?

@@MyVanir The regen is an ability attached to Phoenix, but not used the instant Phoenix pops out. In addition to GCD drift, and the fact a lot of Summoners don't even use the regen to begin with even in Savage, yeah, I appreciate it when Summoners apply regen at the right time.

They get a specific one they can use in phoenix called Rekindle, though, that serves as a single-target regen excog.

Only reason why I see to swiftcast Ifrit as SMN is if you need to move. The cooldown nigh perfectly aligns with the cast, so you're only gaining two seconds of mobility.

I play Black Mage when I want to have fun being an artillery caster and destroying my enemies with blinding EXPLOOOOOOSIONS!!! I play Red Mage when I wanna zip around the battlefield like a crack addicted vermillion cockroach and giving my healers a hear attack when I'm a second or two from getting one shotted by the bosses close range AoE. I play Summoner when i wanna see shiny summons go boom and I'm too tired to play something else.

All the people saying "just give us complex dot class without the pet" dont realize that both aesthetics are missing now. I want my pet class and no scholar doesnt count as a replacement for it. I want both my complex rotation caster with dots and i want my pet class back. It just sucks knowing that even if one or the other, or on the moment hell freezes over both happen... That its going to suck to play at low levels as much as reaper does.

As someone who got to experience both but never really got into meta, honestly I just enjoy the ride, the new one suits me well. Like, sure, it's not that complex, but I enjoy my boy looking cool with all the different animations and even if I liked the DOTs I find it much more pleasing now. It's like... chill. And at the point of my life I'm at I'd rather do that.

As much as I think a new summon would be cool, especially to celebrate the 100 milestone, it seems unlikely at this point, we just got the full-form trio. Maybe something to do with carbuncle ? (it's kind of useless as is) Also it's stupid but I really wish that at lower levels the various Ruins (Ruby etc) had at least a different color when used, like come on.

If you have (outside) buffs, yeah, you're supposed to swift Slipstream to get it in during buff windows and it's an increase, otherwise, you just do Titan.

Even if you do Titan first, you still Swiftcast the first Slipstream because of the pot buff, which, in the normal order of Titan-Garuda/-Ifrit, will only cover Slipstream if it's Swiftcasted. Swiftcasting Slipstream doesn't matter too much when you don't have a pot up and it's genuinely better to save it for an emergency rez. As for Ifrit, it was worth Swiftcasting early on in EW, but they nerfed its GCD so that the potency gain is so minor it's not worth it. Slipstream and Resurrection are the only skills worth Swiftcasting.

I feel this, so much. I loved what old SMN was, despite the (major) jank. I recognize it needed a rework. I reject that it needed a full frontal lobotomy. It is a beautiful but completely hollow shell of a job--and the worst of it all is, they're GOING to have to rework it AGAIN in Dawntrail. Because there's no *room* for them to add anything new. They're going to have to genuinely change something about how it works, not just add new abilities, because there's nowhere for the new abilities to GO.

The game success depends mostly on casuals. If Timmy can't do 5 minutes rotation then SMN needs to be changed to baby mode. It is what it is. I just wish summoner had like more identity to it other than 1-2-3 big gun- 1,2,3 big gun.

I wouldn't say it's deliberately baby mode; I feel it's more like they did to SMN what they did to FFXIV 1.0, that is completely destroy it and build a new one on top of it because the old one was becoming too much of a trainwreck where your number one enemy isn't even the enemy but the game itself. I understand the sunk cost that many are feeling but old SMN simply had no future, space had to be made for the new to grow, taking in the lessons they learned and the new meta they developed since SMN was first introduced.

The fun part is now there's lots of space for new things, which is partly the reason for the rework; the ideal the devs are reaching for seems to be 32 or so buttons per job, so now they have the chance to add to SMN without as much issue as before.

As someone who often plays healer -- ask first if they want help raising. So many just make me waste my own Swiftcast because they insist on doing half the healer's job. SMN raising is a bigger DPS loss than a healer doing it, and a good healer never needs help with MP management. Should be for emergencies only.

I dunno, i feel like my DPS loss is extremely minute for using a literal half second on swiftcasting rez. And it lets the healers focus on healing. A teammate falling and waiting for Swiftcast to return is for sure a way bigger DPS net loss than me helping out.

I'm also talking about the literal first death in the entire raid and the RDM is racing to beat the healers to the raise without communicating whatsoever, *making* the healers waste their swiftcast. Every time they say it's to let the healers focus on healing, to save our MP, etc. when I'm just doing Glare > Glare > Glare until the person died because nothing needed to be done and then I get told they're "helping" me by giving me less to do. It's not hard to just ask "hey healers, do you want me to help with raising?/when do you want me to step in to raise?" rather than just doing it and expecting praise for doing someone else's job. RDM players are entitled "pick me"s who don't understand that they are not the main character in the party.

If i remember or if im in a VC, i'll mention that I can take care of rezzing. Otherwise in more casual content, i'm sure they'll figure it out. It's just reactionary at this point.

Having only just returned to the game after YEARS and not remembering a damn thing, I found that it's nice to have a smooth-brain class while I essentially relearn the game from scratch. I started a new character that's been swapping between summoner and white mage (heehoo throw rocks like monke) while I adjust and figure out what control scheme to use for classes with more than four buttons. But I _do_ vaguely recall the DoTs and I do miss them. Sigh. (Anyone have suggestions for classes with 'mid-level' complexity? I don't wanna smooth-brain forever, but don't want to dive in the deep end either)

Machinist would be the logical next step. You can also do Samurai if you feel like meleeing. If we're talking every role, the tanks are all very easy to play, and healers can train your party awareness and response time without having a rotation to deal with.

Played summoner and bard, now i only get dots on bard... i liked keeping my plates spinning while moving around. It got really fun in savage raids. Now I just get poked fun at it cause it happens they reworked summoner to be way easier =w= ah well, at least bard still exists so when i have to mash a bunch of buttons people can kind of be impressed. If you ever played WoW Warlock, pretty much that. Was a send your pet (Ifrit for Single, Garuda for AOE, Titan as a desperate attempt if Tank fell), hope it doesn't die because they had HP back then and keep your 3 dots up which each had different timers.

As a SMN main, this hurts me in my soul. Before the rework, SMN was hardly that complex. After the rework, you can buttdial your way through a dungeon if you play on controller. They turned an interesting and unique class into a Bioware ending. You have your three recolors of damage, and you have your Bahamut/Phoenix Bookends. That's it.

I despise current summoner. The old pet-centric summoner had so much potential and room for expansion. They could flesh out the pet management as Arcanist and made SMN all about preping for the big summons

Likewise, Old SMN was so much fun even if I wasn’t trying to min-max everything perfectly, trying to reach that point felt amazing. And when everything lined up well it was the best feeling ever. Now we’re stuck with a painful boring job that has nothing more then pretty flashing visuals to distract casuals from the fact that there’s just, nothing to the job. For goodness sakes, you can macro the full rotation, and still do good.

I regret not getting to play the class before they changed it. I got far enough with Arcanist that I had the three carbuncles and I enjoyed switching between them depending on whether I needed them to tank or DPS. I was sad when I cam back years later and found Carbuncle is just there to shield you occasionally.

Forget the playstyle, Summoner had so many cool spells that got removed only for it to be another elemental-based caster. Before we had poison and disease spells like Bio, Miasma, Virus, Contagion, and Bane. Not to mention a really cool AoE spell called Shadow Flare.@@SapphWolf

I didnt play 14 before the summoner update, and I just genuinely don't understand the nuance of playing a broken class that is more complicated than it needs to be. Honestly some of the dumbest baby complaining I have seen from a game community that objectively makes the class a more viable option. Cute video though. I like my baby level rotation.

It makes people feel better than others if they have mastered an overly "complicated" job. I do agree with some tho that over simplifying jobs is also bad. But i think the devs want to think ahead so they have room to add abilities on jobs as well. I don't think they'd have an easy time giving a new ability or something on lvl 100 SMN or even now for lvl 90 if it was the way it used to be. ^^ some just like things to be as difficult as possible

It wasn't complicated or broken. Also SMN did more damage comparatively before the rework than now. The fucked up part was Pet AI which they could have fixed anyways. If you can't understand why people are mad about a job they like being effectively removed from the game and replaced with something that doesn't play the same at all then you need to learn some basic human emotions.

i dont understand people's disdain for the changes really they cry about complexity but old summoner was ruin spam with the occasional refresh of actions followed up by one special button that an ordering your summon around was a pain in the neck in most cases not an added challenge at all just an added annoyance. least now with new summoner you are pushing more buttons then old iteration and you are remaining true to the actual TRUE final fantasy summoner experience cause literally this all summoners in final fantasy games do lol is they have the big flashy summon appear who does their signature attack an then they get buffed up in their magic itinerary an acquire bonus actions etc. dont believe me then look it up or watch videos of summoners from previous final fantasy titles. to me what they tried to create with the first summoner was tried to replicate what worked with ffxi and ffxii's summons but it just wasnt fun in the grander scheme of things you dont need to be a grand tactician or super genius to have fun playing a job or have it be satisfying all you really need is for it to work within the context of the game you are playing everything else added on is just a delightful bonus to something thats already enjoyable
