You may not hear a tree fall in the woods but you may experience a reaction of the tree calling. Which is what sound is. Its a reaction and experience. So say you're driving down the road and a tree falls where you may not hear it but a squirrel or fox or deer are frightened by it causing them to run out in front of you as you're driving possibly causing you to crash. So you experience the sound of the tree falling. That's my answer.

The tree falling in the forest question is based on the idea of sound just being a very narrow frequency vibration (like visible light) that we call sound. I've always thought that the question, "If a tree falls, and no one is around to hear it, does it really make a sound?", is arrogantly ego-centric.
