I’m getting some new gear. It’s for the coming hot weather with expected long and consecutive days/weeks on sealed and unsealed roads. I’m thinking of the body armour, mx pants, jersey combo as the best heat management option. But I keep getting stuck on the issue of slide protection, particularly on bitumen or hard packed unsealed roads at speed. That’s where the jackets are better, but so horribly heavy and hot.

Hi Josh. I run Motoz on my 990R. My past experience is that the tyres take 2000km plus to settle in. And tyre pressures are of great importance. One can run low pressures in the Motoz range due the hard and stiff side walls. I normally run 2 bar in the front and rear laden or unladen. When the terrain gets extreme then I drop down to 1.6 bar. Nothing much notable from 2 to 1.8 bar. The trip you said you battled with these tyres wasn't it the trip your battled and didn't enjoy. Watching that video your front looked like a pogo stick, and a bad case of the luggage steering the bike. Since then you have had the suspension serviced. What tube are you running I.e,. normal 2mm, HD 3mm or UHD 4mm? Tyre pressure, tyre compound, tube thickness and suspension settings all go hand in hand. Unsprung mass comes in to play as well. A guy who races bikes once told when I asked him what tyre size I must run on my 450 plastic. His answer was to me, 500cc and below nothing bigger than a 120 width in the rear. I run a 140/80/18 on my 990R instead of the normal 150/70/18. There is a large difference between the two sizes. The 140 has a higher profile and rolling diameter, plus weight. I don't need or use the full width of the 150 on or off the road. Also a tubeless tyre has a heavier side wall than a tube tyre. These tips I got from Motoz. Yes I agree tyres and tyre pressures are individual taste and preferences. Individual riding styles plays an important part as well. All the best with finding that perfect tyre combination.
@johnstaring321016 күн бұрын
Sounds like the perfect combination for my trip to the Finke next year on the T7. Thanks. Used the Motoz GPS for a long trip off road on my supertenere and the rear was ideal, the front not much.

I wouldn't say it isn't what I think it should be. I think it's great for the longer adventures, I just don't think it's the right choice if you want to ride some tougher more technical trails. It's still a great tyre designed for a certain application. As they all are I guess.

I run the same tyres on my adv bike but have a 150 on the back. Found them to have good longevity, good performance on and off road. Haven't done too much mud but done deep sand and found them good not great. Never had issues in the wet on the road. The rear especially can be noisy. Would recommend. Most likely will try the Mitas enduro trail XT next.

There is more to how tires perform then just that. Geometry, sag, tire presure, rider postion, type of riding, ect. This is why no two people will have the same opinion on tires. The DRZ is raked out at the front so I found bringing the fork tubes up through the tripples by 20 - 30mm made a huge difference with the front sticking in fast gravel turns. You also need to slide up on the tank to weight the front tire. I did try the Motoz Rallz on the rear to be pretty good at 20PSI. I also found the MT21 front and rear on the DRZ worked well.

the 140 would have an effect on traction too, wider tyre equals less contact pressure example is like a boot vs a stiletto. but it wouldn't change the outcome of the review just that a 120 would bite in a bit more and stay hooked up slightly better, also less weight sapping power and slowing direction changes.

I'm late to your party but I did arrive.... lol, I didn't realize there was an, "E" version of the DRz400? The regular & SM I knew of & I was just watching a man when I saw a second radiator? I was surprised, wondering if he had added the 2nd coil to expel more heat from the bike? Heck, that wouldn't surprise me at all, in fact I'd be wondering if I could do that just to protect the bike even better. Anyhow, both were protected w/ a dual shield radiator guard & I learned about the "E" version. So now I'll be watching your video & coming back to ask more - like if you live in America? But I'll be back in a few. So I've watched & one of my biggest questions is about the 2nd radiator coil. The "E" has 2 radiators instead of just 1 & this is something I've thought about doing just to make any bike run cooler but I saw this today on another Aussie Man's "E" version. I didn't know this existed & it's not available here so I guess they discontinued her in the States? For me, I wonder about those 2 coils & the different sprocket setup on this bike? Do you know why this version is like this, I mean it's a lot different than the original or SM models even though it's the same overall stuff? So I'm here asking, never know what I might find used out there & it's better that I know what it is now in case I do have a chance to buy a used one? So far, of the 3 different DRz's, I think I like the "E" best? peace man
@_JoshJB_21 күн бұрын
@@user-dv7hb2sc9m I don’t think you Americans got the E model. But we did here in Australia. It’s aimed towards off-road riding unlike the S and SM models. Hence the differences 👍🏼
@user-dv7hb2sc9m21 күн бұрын
Yeah Josh, that happens to be the truth except I do have one guy here who's riding one..... lol, I'm not sure how he came to have one but I'm thinking someone came over from Australia & brought her along but sold it on the way home to keep from having to pay for a used bike? Of course that's a wild arse guess "SWAG"..... lol, I'll have to ask him tomorrow b/c I just posted comments to him yesterday. But yes, I think of the DRz's, I'd prefer the "E" if I had the choice. I'd take it for a few reasons & if I wanted the SM, I'd use the "E" and buy a set of wheels just the color/size I wanted. Besides, the E has more HP from my understanding which is part of the reason you guys buy her? Thanks again for the help!
