The New Tappan Zee Bridge February 2017

The new Tappan Zee Bridge’s westbound span is nearly connected the whole way through. Once crews connect the main span in the middle, there will be an unbroken structure across the Hudson River. When that traffic shift happens, travelers would be moved onto the new bridge’s westbound span over eight lanes. The westbound span is wider than the future eastbound span to accommodate the future walking and biking path. Once traffic is moved over, the current Tappan Zee Bridge will be demolished.
