Got one on Amazon a couple of weeks ago with a $110 off coupon with 32gb and a 1TB M.2 drive and I love it -- super quiet and quite fast for such a little thing. Getting 50+ FPS playing Diablo Resurrected at 4K with 50% scaling and it looks fantastic. Initially was going to get the 760 slim but opted for this because the 760 was only offered with 16gb and had the lesser 760m graphics.

'scuse me, what's the point of 4K + 50%
@4evrplanАй бұрын
@irvinekinny Either way, it gets upscaled to native, either by the game or by the monitor, but perhaps the in-game scaling algorithm looks better than the one in the monitor? I think most monitors use bilinear scaling, which is fast but low quality. The in-game scaling? Who knows?
@irvinekinnyАй бұрын
@@4evrplan I mean, If your hardware can't render at 100% - what's the point of upscaling? It won't make the game better, or am I missing some idea?
@4evrplanАй бұрын
@irvinekinny Yes, it could make the game better *if* it uses a higher quality scaling algorithm than the one in the monitor. DLSS/FSR/XESS/IGTI/etc > bilinear. Not as good as native but better than upscaled by bilinear.

I'd love to see/hear about how well this thing would work hooked up to a large TV or VR while using Steam Link. On paper it should be great, especially if both computers are hard line networked but no one seems to say much on this type of setup. I'm especially interested in doing this with Linux due to some of the issues I have been seeing with Windows lately.
@Anonymous1337PenguinWin9xCIHАй бұрын
Hey bro, if i understand you correctly, it doesnt matter much about the device thats linked to your tv, that recieves the stream via steamlink other than wifi capability, the device you connect to through steamlink needs the horsepower. I use a steamdeck that is docked to an old 60inch 1080p tv through hdmi, i connect to my pc downstairs (i513600k/4070ti) the steamdeck uses wifi and the pc is using ethernet and theres zero problems however this is a linux to windows steamlink as i dont want to move to linux on my gaming rig yet. i ordered one of these um870's direct from minisforum so itll likely take ages but as an avid vr sim racer without even testing i already know it wont be a pleasant experience on the mini pc, its a 1080p low / retro box that can behave like any toher PC theyre new, power efficient and exciting, nothin more than a boys toy, buy yourself a steam deck and dock for less used and enjoy being able to just pick it up out of the dock as a bonus. if all you wanna do is stream from your main pc any old device with wifi 5+ will be fine providing your router isnt too bad.
@SkulltapАй бұрын
@@Anonymous1337PenguinWin9xCIH Honestly, I fully expect that you are 100% correct in all of the use cases I can think of too! I have used my Steam Deck with Steam Link many times, but never docked to a large TV. The main overhead for the local/client system comes from the OS and networking, with a sprinkle of transcoding in the mix. The main question I have is how much additional overhead is added with VR via Steam Link in the mix. The main limiting factor for this on the Steam Deck is the single USB 3 gen 2 port. Technically it can support up to 10Gbit/s, but real world speeds are often much lower especially when multiple devices are connected to that one port. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Steam Deck could handle both of these scenarios just fine. I just thought it would be nice to see some content that actually addresses it since no one really talks about it. Especially for those less tech savvy ;) I mainly added the TV part as I was thinking VR alone might not be enough content for a video and is related enough to make sense. I suppose a video on how low spec can you go and still run VR via Steam Link could be interesting too. With all that said, I suppose I have everything I would need to test it out myself... I'm sure ETA would make a more interesting video than I could on it though. Besides, I have a face for radio and a mind that makes squirrels seem focused :D

@@Anonymous1337PenguinWin9xCIH That's a great point, and I have used my Steam Deck with Steam Link many times! My main rig is set up with a 5800X and 3080, so its been flawless when playing directly on the Steam Deck. With that said, I haven't actually tried Steam Link with my Steam Deck docked to a 65" 4k TV. The main overhead with Steam Link comes from the OS + networking + a dash of transcoding. As such, there really isn't much of a concern in just outputting to a display. The question I have comes from how much additional overhead is added with VR. I suppose one of the reasons there isn't a lot of content on it is due to the number of complexities involved. Between how the VR headset is connected (USB, DP, HDMI, etc) and networking (wifi vs ethernet), along with the variability of these, its probably a big factor in why there is so little content around it. The Steam Deck might be able to handle VR via Steam Link, but the main limiting factor is probably going to be the single USB 3 gen 2 port. It can technically hit 10Gbit/s, but real world throughput gets all over the place once there is a dock and likely multiple things connected. While a good WiFi setup should probably be fine, it would still be nice to have it connected via ethernet to minimize any latency and/or WiFi hiccups. Both of these are less than fun with timing based games such as Beat Saber.

@@Anonymous1337PenguinWin9xCIH Not sure what happened to my reply, but the short version is that you have a good point. Valve has done some amazing work with Steam Link and I have used it several times on my Steam Deck, but never docked to a 4k TV. Generally speaking, the overhead on Steam Link really comes from the OS, networking, and a dash of transcoding. Its that overhead that I'm most interested in, especially when running VR out of a mini pc client through Steam Link. The main plus side of having to retype this reply is that I ended up ordering one and installed Bazzite on it just last night. The only issue I have run into so far is that the Wifi doesn't seem to be working. The best I can tell is that Linux and MediaTek chips don't get along well
