I just got the Minis Forum UM690S Venus with 32GB RAM, and 1TB NVme, for the same price as this, but I also caught it on a deal on Amazon for $120 off. It takes a bit of time to get everything set up, but once it is, the nostalgia of replaying games from your childhood doesn't stop. I'm thinking of getting another one and using it in a bartop cabinet, the small size should fit quite nicely.

$349 for a 760M, late cycle. Not sure how this "came out of nowhere". For the price, expect 780M SKUs, laptops, or handhelds to be a far better pick towards year end. Minisforum is hoping to unload these before those sales start.

Which 350$ device got 780M? You can barely get i3 laptop for that money. As for handhelds the only option you got for that price is either android handhelds with a fraction of the power or steam deck, which despite being a really good device on its own is quickly becoming outdated and got way lower performance compared to this. Cheapest gaming laptop with a 3050 or 4050 still cost at least $700, at double the price.

For everyone else, wait until year end sales like I said. 780M is 50% faster, 3050 mobile is also 50% faster. 4050 mobile is 2.5 times faster, not even comparable, and currently sales going under $600. By year end sales, even better.

This is what gaming should be, mini pc's with enough oomph to run your games and a dock available with external gpu if you really need it. Microsoft and Sony need to start just making games again and ditch the consoles.

Excellent sharing, for the price asked, the computer is more than excellent!!!! I have to say, I find it funny that you mention that the fps drop to 50, but the gameplay remains good. My computer with its i3 3450 and gforce700m from 2011, in one of the games shown here, if I get 10fps I'm happy, so, 50fps..... it´s paradise!!!

Not being able to power it over USB4 is a downer. My UM780 XTX runs fine over USB4 connected to a 100W charger, even through a dock. This should be able to do the same given it uses a less powerful chip.

I think for this price you could invest a bit more to get something with the 780M. This one on the video is not fast enough to justify the price.

The forced use of the power brick is a major disappointment. At 120W, it's HALF of the latest max standards for USB-PD. Could have made this a one cable solution and provided a bog standard USB-C brick instead of a barrel plug model.

@pekkaastrom7346 nonsense. A barrel plug can be bespoke while a usb-c port is relatively universal. Case in point, the iPhone fight in the EU. There's dozens (if not hundreds) of variations of barrel plugs, and a manufacturer is under no obligation to follow any standard other than electrical safety rules around them.

@@edwardgreenjr167 Oh, I mean that the replacement and soldering of a USB-C is more complicated. With a barrel it's easier. Just cut the faulty one off and solder a new one in place. There are plenty of videos on YT.

Not too shabby at all for the price. Instead of bundling a set of pads, they should know by now that all they need to do is use hollowed out pads that a screwdriver can fit into the middle of without having o remove them. It is such a simple thing to do. Shame that USB 2 is still being utilised and no confirmation of the speed of the USB 3.2 ports. In the same price range of the Gmktec M6, which looks like great value for what it does, but this does seem to be a step up, so could be quite popular. Add the steam lossless scaling app and I'll bet it will be even more potentially appealing.

I bought a UM690 2 years ago and love this minimalist profile! I don't game much on PC and these are perfect for small spaces/tiny office setups! Looking for a worthwhile upgrade, recently. This one looks like a contender, considering the 96gb of ram as a possibility!

In future videos like this could you please do a gaming test with the Lossless scaling app on windows? I'd love to see 1080p gaming on these types of platforms with that technology. I imagine 720p high settings with lossless scaling up to 1080p with frame gen would look pretty good and get decent frames with that enabled. IMO it could be a great little spot in the gaming section of the videos and could really showcase the capabilities of such a small platform like this without a dedicated GPU.

I was just coming on you channel to complain about how they alway use the Ryzen 9 or 7 but never the 5 in these mini computers. Unless it’s and older version! Like this one, they’d rather have you play the thermal throttle game than to not make enough money from the customer. So like this one is no different we have a Ryzen 5 7000 series while big name companies are using the Ryzen 5 8000 series in their laptops. So also just using the Ryzen 5 8000 series would make it cheaper than the 7 & 9 8000.

Never buy these Chinese based mini pcs. I bought a mini pc from Minisforum, and it had major problems out of the box. Getting a response from this company takes forever. There is no phone support, and you have to pay to send it back for repair. These boxes are made out of plastic. They overheat and have zero bios/driver updates. I will never touch one of these junk boxes again.

It's definitely a gamble. Not much support like Bios update for sure. Driver is not a problem at all on windows. I bought 2 different mini PC in the last 2 years (Beelink Ryzen 5 5600H & Minisforum HX99G). Both to replace older ATX PC (i7-4900K, i7-920). The high-end Mini PC HX99G is use for my arcade machine & projector in the basement. The cheaper smaller one for the living room. The one in the living room is use everyday as media player for KZbin, Plex & Emulation (PS2, PS3, Gamecube, Wii, Switch), etc. No problems at all. Never have heat issue yet.
