The reason why Britain has so many different accents is because last 2000 years we haven’t had much communication with each village and all of them are convinced that they pronounce it properly

In north eastern USA they do have a larger variety of accents than other part of the US for this exact reason. They were an English colony for longer during the time of long travel 1600-1900 so developed accent
@donottaptheglass774113 күн бұрын
W&G’s northern accents are oddly very meaningful, rooted in British history and 80’s politics. When the first short was released in 1989, Northern England was ridden with unemployment and a disproportionately poor quality of life (thank you Maggy Thatch). As a result, we were severely underrepresented in most all media and viewed largely like a lower class by Southerners (and the Southern-based media giants). On the BBC it was literally policy that you had to have a Southern accent (“The Queens English”) to present the news, and Northern media was practically non existent. So - to have a short featuring Northern characters from a Northern creator with strong Northern accents was a huge, huge deal. It was an enormous source of pride for North England at the time, and honestly has remained that way - even if the North/South divide has shrunk since 1989 (…somewhat)
@DanGamingFan240613 күн бұрын

As someone who grew up with Wallace and Gromit, and saw Curse of the Were-Rabbit in theaters, this was a great watch! I think my favorite jokes were the boat chase and the borders of Yorkshire and Lancashire. (It reminds of in the short A Matter of Loaf and Death when Gromit tries to get rid of a bomb, he just throws it to the Yorkshire border.) Yorkshire Border: Keep Out! Lancashire Border: No, You Keep Out!

"Vengance Most Fowl" is fantastic. I was lucky to see a "Behind the Scenes" of the film hosted by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham themselves AND got to see the puppets up close and in person at the Manchester Animation Festival last autumn... Over here in the UK it's been heralded as if it's the second coming. It earned second most watched media on BBC 1 on Christmas Day (just losing to "Gavin and Stacey") and it's getting nominated for awards left, right and centre too, including not 1, not 2, but 3 BAFTA's, I would not be surprised if the dynamic duo returned to their rightful roots at the Academy Awards. 🙂

3:53 that’s why the boh’oh o’ woh’oh joke is considered a bit offensive by English people: our accents are very much linked to our culture, because in previous centuries, the upper classes tried to push them out of us, so we very much use it as a class identifier, so jokes like that seem very classist. We still have a lot of elitism in the UK
