According to census data Okolona is still plurality white with one majority Hispanic neighborhood while Newburg is plurality African American but both are very diverse. The Indiana side of the metro has significant poor white suburban areas.

its sad on the Indiana side these days.

go to the Indiana side, Clarksville to be specific you’ll get Mexicans, Guatemalans and Hondurans
@jKLa Жыл бұрын
@@imbout2blow yes, there is some diversity over there in certian neighborhoods but it's far less in general compared to the Kentucky side.

That still looks very suburban to me, -just decayed hood suburban! The majority of Louisville's Kentucky suburbs were also merged in to Louisville a while back. But suburban decline is a big thing all over the country now...

Louisville has had a somewhat cosmopolitan, international character for some time. However, I am a little surprised by the demographic shifts that you mentioned. It's sad that it's followed the trend of other major urban areas in terms of affordability. There wasn't suburban homelessness when I was there. This was in the 90s. However I think that Newburg/Okolona continues to be one of the more affordable localities in the metro area. It's perennially blue collar in terms of per capita income. There have been changes for sure

Chain link fencing or 'barbed wire' as you seemed to be describing it is not necessarily a negative indicator. It may actually be a net positive. It keeps an undesirable element out

Preston Highway as I remember doesn't become walkable or pedestrian friendly until you get into the core and it becomes Preston St. It's a prime example of what another KZbinr as a 'stroad'. It's neither a street ( which is narrow and pedestrian oriented ) nor a road ( which is designed for high speed driving with few entrances and exits ). This is typical of much urban design ( or lack of it ) here in the US

Lincoln Park ( the area immediately adjacent to the Church of Christ ) has been economically depressed for years. ( I'm recalling your observations about derelict vehicles in front yards ). Not all of the area is like that. When you go to the southeast portion of Newburg many of the homes are better maintained. My grandparents moved in during new construction in the late 60s when they purchased their second home. The area close to Shepherdsville Rd trends a lot nicer

I live here. Most of the city is considered the hood and always has been. Gotta go east to get away from the bs. Its not terrible like baltimore, but man you better not mess around here. You are fairly safe tho if arent involved in the bs and just live a normal life. Its definitely worse then it was 25 years ago when i was a teenager. Homicides have about more then doubled. Lots more teenagers killing now and doing the killing. The homeless here are everywhere now. Tent cities around town. Drugs are magnitudes worse. Fent, heroine, amd everything else. It sounds bad. Its really not as bad as it seems tho when you live here. Umless you live somehwere that regularly sees the homicide detectives taping off you block.
