I commend you for letting any patron have all the benefits. Many of us are retired, health issues, infirmities that only have a little to give. Also I am sure there are many older people that watch all the homesteaders, because of the content and nostalgic reasons. I am one of them and Love living through your lives. You have such a calling and importance to us who really can’t do what you guys do. But you have helped me to do what I can , where I’m at, as old as I am. The Classroom! I am not a Christian by any means, but saying that I have to acknowledge that I do believe in God and Jesus Christ. I am drawn to the two of you because of your personalities and my love of gardening. I have to admit gardening isn't my only love. I absolutely LOVE the smell of wood and sawdust. I know...its weird, but there is something about the smell of fresh cut wood and the excitement of growing a garden. Thank you for your many blessings. I just love your channel. I bless you all.

I’m grateful I took the Jess challenge and asked for a green stalk as a birthday/Christmas gift. And I got it! Also placed my first seed order and only ordered foods I like, things that can grow in the planter. I’m 68 years old and this will be my second ever try at growing food. The first was 40 years ago and was a disaster! The slugs literally ate everything overnight. I’m excited to give it another go in 2023 and possibly start my grandchildren on their own food growing journey. Happy New Year!🎉💙

I’m 65, grew sunflowers last year and kept salad plugs alive all summer for the first time. I’ve always composted but I invested in plenty more too, pushed a load of pots with flowers, herbs, shrubs together and topped up the gaps with compost to create 2 pretty and passable beds, 3 really, practised chop & drop like mad, mowed seldom as UK had a dry summer, bought seeds and what I need to caretake (clean/sharpen) secateurs/shears/lopper (haven’t done this yet). And I watched/listened to a tonne of Jess/Lovely Greens/Huw Richards/Katrina/Epic Greens/ Garden Ninja & Liz Zorab (& more recently Charles Dowding). But this is the year of The Grow! Good luck, good gardening & good fun Lanie xx 🪴🥰🪴

Hello from a nearly 74 year old in central Virginia . Those slugs are so destructive & disgusting , aren't they ? There are a few things you can do to bait & kill them . 1) you can purchase slug bait . Just lay a piece of lumber , plywood , etc on the ground . Under the wood , sprinkle the slug bait & lay the wood back on top of it . They will come to it & it will kill them 2 ) Buy some cheap beer , pour an inch or so in a pie plate etc. , anything fairly shallow , place it where the slugs frequent . They cannot resist the smell of the yeast & crawl over in it & drown . You can also sprinkle a little salt on them - if you see them crawling & it will dissolve them !

I appreciate you guys so much. I'm up in CT and have been blessed by Roots and Refuge since 2018. As strange as it seems, my life has paralleled yours in general and health ways over the years, 2018 being the last "normal" year....everything took a back seat to my recovery this past year and the garden produced predominantly tomato sandwiches and some herbs, both of which inspire extreme gratitude in my ❤. I pray for ur continued recovery and thank u for continuing to share and motivate me to grow with God and in my garden.

Oh my Dear Girl! I am so glad to hear you are feeling better!!! Food really has such an impact on us, most of us never realize how bad we feel until we don't feel that way anymore. Although I thankfully did not have major medical issues, just eliminating grains and sugar have made such an enormous difference. Changing your diet is HARD but rewarding and it really is a permanent change; you know when you eat something you shouldn't! I'm grateful to you and your family for all of your sharing, thank you and may God continue to bless you all.

God has given them the gifts in this area. He has put this in their hearts. There are people who enjoy being negative and making others uncomfortable, then there are others truly do the bidding of Satan (sending porn etc). Take all those people at what and where they are. The more you are doing right, the more you can expect it. Take it as a compliment. As Christians we know that if we are doing what God wants us to do, no matter the outcome, it has been profitable. It makes us courageous!

'miah, I don't know if it's already on your radar, but I hope you have a separate space in the planned workshop for metalworking. Welding and forging are things that a lot of homesteaders end up learning because it's needed on a homestead. You don't want to mix that space with woodworking because splattered slag contaminates a woodworking area almost instantly making power tools break and embedding in wood, not to mention the fire hazard. The metalworking side has tools specialized to work on metal and a metal table to weld on. A lot of workshops have the two areas separated with a door (usually a big sliding door) in between. Usually the metalworking shop is smaller unless you also get into doing machinist work.

No one ever referred you before? No one ever said this could help? Imagine the next ten years of your life with the same problems, then imagine it all being fixed up in a month and never dealing with it again. If you skip that appointment, I will kick your .....not really. You are worth it, please just do it for you.

Pam here…. I just went through 6 months and 6 different antibiotics a cystoscopy with the urologist…turned out I actually had 2 bugs growing and one didn’t show up in 2 cultures…that 3rd one it finally did…and it still took 2 antibiotics to get rid of it. The infection was actually heading to sepsis. I was so exhausted, my pulse was racing, throwing up, passing out. When the culture finally returned. the bug is a common one that is found in mouth with root canals. Which, 4 years ago I got really sick after pulling out a tooth that hurt constantly dispite being root canaled. I made dentist pull it. Wound up in hospital 4 weeks later…long saga…but i think that the bug lingered somewhere in my system. Sigh. Hope you are at a better place!!

Thank you for sharing the beautiful dream of 2023. I also want to thank you for sharing your journey through your autoimmune illness. I to have an autoimmune disorder (RA), for which I was diagnosed 15 years ago. I have been in remission but now I’m dealing with a new disorder, IBS. It has been miserable so now I’m starting with the food elimination phase. Like you I am so thankful for my garden. I’m just a backyard container gardener but it brings me such joy and peace I can’t even explain. Your words gave me the strength to begin the elimination of foods that my gut is sensitive too. I have to eliminate bread, sugar, processed foods, chocolate, some of my favorite fruits, nuts, and veggies. This year I will be growing fruits and veggies that I can eat. I’m retired and living on a fixed income and I’m so happy the you are making membership affordable for all of us. I live in So Az in zone 10 so I can grow food almost year round. I love your vlog and the newsletters. I’m looking forward to 2023 and feeling healthy and whole again. Thank you and I BLESS YOU❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻

My mom had dementia and you could tell without testing when she had a UTI because her dementia was so much worse. It blew me away when you mentioned the connection between the two. Going back to your video about "planting a seed", my wish for 2023 is to stay on track with the seed your talk helped me plant in my life, that I cover it over and water it in through the year. Part of it is financial, but much of it is about making my retirement count for something. I have made over 100 hats for the homeless and I am thinking it is time to branch out. I am constantly crocheting. I need to try to turn some of that work into money, and from that money, I can put a good portion of it into buying more yarn to make things for people in need! Prayers for 2023, that everyone makes headway this year, making your future match your dreams! 💖🙏💖

I am so thankful for many things but I have to share with you that I am so thankful for the two of you. I don’t comment much but I have been so blessed by the two of you in more ways than I can count. I truly love you guys and consider you friends. I talk about you to my family and friends a lot and they probably think I am nuts but you have inspired me in numerous ways. I have laughed with you and I have cried with you and I have prayed for you. My only regret is that I didn’t have you as friends when I was younger. I am 61, I have a garden and chickens and you played a huge part in that. I get scared sometimes because my husband and I are feeling the aging process and wish I had more time on earth to enjoy the things I am learning from you all. God bless you guys for all you do and the most important thing is that you love the Lord and give him all the honor and glory. I would so love to meet you guys one day and I know that probably isn’t going to happen because you can’t just spend your time hanging out with everyone that wants to visit you. We live in a world where some people just like to criticize. Just try and not let the critics get to you. Some constructive criticism is good, but some people just say things to be hateful for no real reason. You all are doing so much to help others. Keep your head held high because you all are a blessing. Just think of the people you all are touching. You are appreciated.

I"m thankful that through all the hard lessons of 2023, that I survived it and found solid ground through it all. 2023 had many goods results for me, like a new job location which was very much needed, and a forced move from my home of 8 yrs, which was difficult. But the best changes come from risk and discomfort. So, take risks that count and find the greater results. Blessings to you all.

Jessica I read a couple of your blogs you wrote and you honestly touched my life, just like you always do. You have had such a profound impact on my life over the past few years. I don’t understand why people cannot support one another through the good times out the bad times. But instead they choose to leave us standing alone to deal with it all on our own. But no matter how much time you would of needed to take due to sickness I would been here waiting on you all to come back. Your kids are growing up, I look at Jackson and I see how much of you he has in him, with his smile and just how out going he is. Treasure those moments with your kids, I had to do that as well, they grow up way too fast and all the sudden they don’t depend on you anymore and they are gone on their own journey called life.

It is sad that people take the time to just leave bad comments and trip you up just as trouble makers. You both have so much information about growing food plus much more to share with those who want to learn. You are also very calming and that is helpful to those who experience stress. Yes, includes most of us. Bless you both and remember you are loved and appreciated by 99.99% of the people and the trolls are a small but an annoyingly loud group. Take care.

Just read your blog post about being deserving of care and I loved it. Thank you! I just wanted you to know, I didn't stop watching your videos as much because you were sick or less often, but because I was wrestling with contentment in my own life on our little 2 acres. I was struggling with contentment because my own autoimmune diseases have left me weary and your life and goals just got too big for my limited capabilities. But I still check in and I'm still excited to see your garden this year. I just need space with Jesus to help my heart make peace with my own life circumstances. ❤️ Thankful you're better!!

Praise God for your renewed health! We found a long term bacterial, viral, and parasite infection this year. I have been battling symptoms on and off for years. The past 18 months were terrible. I was barely functional. But I found a wonderful provider who advocated for me and we have made huge improvements in the last 4 months! I'm excited for this year, it absolutely feels like a fresh start!

I'm so grateful for your healing Jessica, I can't imagine how frustrating & difficult that's been. But you do look so much better, the light in your countenance is back.❤🙏 Watching y'all work as a team and learning to persevere through tough times, with transparency, it helps many of us out here learn we can also do the same and do it with grace. I pray this is y'alls year! Jeremiah, getting your shop is exciting and well deserved, you, Jess and your crew have done so much on the farm in just one year, it's incredible what you've all accomplished. Now it's time for sweet Miah to have a dream of his own come true. Be blessed in all you endeavor & the Happiest of New Years to you both and your beautiful family.
