Almost a year ago we were living in a suburban neighborhood with an HOA on less than a quarter acre and the fire alarm in our house went off early in the morning after my husband had left for work. I pulled the kids out of bed, peeked around for fire, went outside, and called my husband to ask why it was going off and how to fix it. He didn’t know. When he got home, he said everything seemed fine. It happened again every day for the next several days..waking my kids, causing fear. I prayed and asked God, “Why are you allowing this? What are you trying to tell me? What does this mean?” And just as quick as I asked it, I felt the voice of God saying, “Fire alarms mean to get out.” My husband came home from work that day and said, “I feel like we need to get out of here.. new job..new place..more space..more quiet..” A new job fell in his lap and we sold our house and bought 15 acres in a small quiet town close to his new job. It’s been a huge change and I can’t say it’s been easy, but God has blessed us every step of the way and every day we are still looking to Him for our next steps.

I love how creative God is, how He interacts with us in a million different ways. This is the only story I've heard of Him speaking through a literal fire alarm. There was only one burning bush. Even now, after all this time, He is still finding new and different ways to speak to His children. It's beautiful the way He assures us that He loves each of us individually.

I’m not Christian but I have heard loud and clear the voice to grow more food not just for us for others as well, so loud I couldn’t ignore it. Not having an income and recovering from a brain injury it seemed impossible but when there’s a will there’s a way. I’m well on my way to answer that voice! This message was the nudge letting me know I’m on the right path. Thank you Jess ❤

Oh, EC! May you be blessed to persevere and succeed! I also have health challenges and am determined to grow some food this year. My Pa was born in 1915 and he related that community was the way things used to be. Most people grew different crops and there was one man who had the tools others' needed so it was all about exchanging what they grew or had with others for their lives. Pa's family grew tobacco in Kentucky. Then they moved to Ohio and he was never clear what they grew there but it was all about trading what they grew for what others grew. For my first time ever, I will mostly be growing food in pots and I will grow as much as I can and then trade for other food from neighbors. Back to you... may you be veggie rich this year and successful with your plans! I applaud you for not letting your challenge deter you. I've been watching Jess' vlogs for a few years now and have learned a lot from her and been SO encouraged to put my health aside and do what I can. Hugs to you, EC!

Jess - I started gardening in 2020 at a small rental house, in a small wood box lined with burlap and soil. Before the pandemic I also felt that God was leading me to grow food. I didn’t grow up with gardens, so I learned everything from KZbin. Today - I have 9 raised beds and have grown beautiful vegetables and flowers. I also took the step, just yesterday, to start a garden club in my community, thanks to a video that you and Jill had a couple of years ago. Yahweh is definitely using you and what’s in your hand. And my prayer is that He uses what’s in my hand for my family and community. Thank you for the devotional! ❤

As a nonbinary trans human with a complicated relationship with spiritualism due to religious trauma, I am forever grateful that I stumbled on your channel however many years ago. Being in the homesteading space while feeling so "other" can be really difficult at times, but you have always seemed to make space for me and that honestly has helped me process and cope with some of that trauma. I think had I not found you, I wouldn't be remotely close to providing as much food as I have for my small family, and you've so enthusiastically encouraged me to try to help others start to do the same, even when they don't know how. Thanks for everything you do, Jess. I'm glad you shot the video that was in your heart rather than what was in the plan. I'm excited to use what's in my hand.

Curious, I will be praying for you. I am praying that God reveals Himself to you in a way that there's no denying that it's Him. I would like to encourage you to pray and ask Him for His guidance and I would also encourage you to read His Word and allow Him to speak to you through it. If you seek Him, you will find Him and He will help you, if you are serious about it. You can't afford to allow what's happened in the past to determine your future. The One that you can count on is God Almighty, He's waiting on you to ask Him...🙏 I would also like to add that there is a channel that I like to listen to (Christian as well) that has some teachings that I feel could be beneficial to you and it's called Straight talk and it's with Marlon Browne. You can actually catch it live Monday through Friday at 12 pm Eastern time.

The homesteading lifestyle is kinda like God's love- it's accessible to anyone who wants it, wherever they are, whoever they are. Life is hard enough, but when you also feel like you don't identify in ways the world thinks you should, it makes things so much harder, emotionally, spiritually and physically. I'm glad you've found Jess's channel and have found a way to feel included and welcome. From an imperfect Christian and an imperfect homesteader, welcome and may God bless you, your family and your homesteading journey.

The Father led us through some terrible situations, to move us to our homestead! We moved states away because of the calling. It is scary, but knowing who it is coming from and being able to follow that voice, helped us! We are now 2 years on our land!!! We have started our sheep herd, have chickens, rabbits, and it will be my 3rd garden here this year!! I have learned so much from you, and other KZbinrs, and know that this will be my best garden yet. We aren't to the scale of being able to grow all our food, but we are slowly getting there :) thank you for this!!! When you listen to the Father, He will provide the way. It looks different for everyone, but He will lead you through it

Thank you for this devotional today. I am struggling today as our church family is waiting and praying for a dear sweet sister who is in the hospital. she had a major stroke and is being taken off the ventilator today. She has other health issues going on as well but we are placing her in God's hands. Your devotional has gotten me refocused thank you ❤️

Ive been a working artist since 2009. Painting daily. Last Spring I lost my desire to paint and suddenly became interested in food preservation and gardening. I've had an urgency to learn, learn learn as much as I can as quick as I can. Your channel is one that I ran into here recently. This so spoke to me and for you to say that you know of thousands of others that are feeling the same, confirmed to me that this is of God. HE is going to take care of his people through His people. Thank you, Jess!!!!

Jess, your devotionals are always fantastic. They are always spot on! I have watched tons of your videos, and I have yet to see one that is fear based. You do an amazing job at exposing the truth with educating / encouraging people to take responsibility in the area of growing healthy food for themselves. If anything you take the fear out of ‘what happens if’ and replace it with ‘I got this’. The staff in your hand is dirt. The staff in your hand is seed. The staff in your hand is every door you have mustered the courage to walk through in faith that Abba has opened for you to bring people out of Egypt, if I may use that term, and you do it with excellence. Be blessed.

My nudge came in February of 2020. With zero experience and very small budget, I bought as many seeds as I could get my hands on. Just a few weeks later, covid hit and it all made sense. I haven't looked back since. Yours was the first channel I came to when learning to start seeds and you 100% have had an impact on my life and my garden ❤ I bless you and love you too!

I love when you do a devotional. I've listened to "That's Not the Shepherd" a number of times & shared it as well. Thank you. I listened to this one this morning & then went to a small group where we have been taking turns reading aloud from a book....my turn...the very first sentence I read said, "When God gave Moses his mission, one of the questions he asked him was, "What is that in your hand?" NO KIDDING I couldn't even read the next sentence. I've felt like I'm floundering a bit lately in my first year of retirement (probably just the winter season), but I am thinking, what IS in my hand?

Good morning Jess, I am so moved by this morning’s devotion. I previously mentioned I started gardening and canning 3 years ago. This last year my eyes were opened to me as I was canning. I felt as though God was speaking to me that I was wasting a lot of the by product of processing the food. It became apparent He was guiding me to find ways to use every part of the food He was providing. At first I felt guilty that I was seeing the waste- but then I realized how God was just teaching me and leading me to think more about what I could do with what he provides us. To be obedient I began looking for ways to learn more ! That led me to you tube to learn more about the processes. It became more exciting and I am more inspired to be an even better steward of Gods provisions this year. There are a lot of you tubers I could follow, but honestly I feel God has allowed me to find you. You are real and true to your faith. I feel when one is in need of guidance and hope that God will provide. I feel God provided me you . I feel God is using you as a vessel for those who need guidance and hope.I thank God for his blessing and thank God for using you.

You are always so very spot on! My next move is getting a couple 2-4 chickens and if asked just tell the HOA they are pets until I can get to the place of land and plenty! I don’t have a single house plant. My Daddy passed and I started a garden and have never looked back! The difference between home grown and store bought food can’t be put into words! I thank you for all you so generously share! Continue to Be Blessed and Being a Blessing. PS: Your words made me think to myself “ You have to be able to see the beauty in someone else’s walk in the sunshine, even when your own walk seems shrouded in clouds!” What is in your hands? Whatever you make it, even if it’s just baby steps! Thank you and I Bless you and I so look forward to the next time! 💜

Your devotionals have been like 'food' for my soul for several years, especially "Infinitely More". I am the one who told you and your viewers that my daughter and I lost a family member this month - our Cairn Terrier, who was with us for 17 years. And yes, we are still grieving hard. The pain is inexplicable, and we are both now in deep depressions and disabling exhaustion even though we are doing very little. Mornings are the hardest, and I am consumed by wondering if we will get any relief from this hurt. I am grateful that you stopped and did this, Jess, because it truly helped me focus during a period of confusion on what the true source of the problem is. You reminded me that He is the One we have been crying out to all day every day and that He is the only One Who can heal us. (No, I believe He will heal us. That is the "faith step" I am taking right now.) Your words are also helping me understand that a part of our pain is a frustration and indeed an anger around our inability to control what has happened and what is happening. So, I pray what you have shared here will continue to help us - and other viewers - surrender it all to God including, in our case, the anger we have been harboring. And I pray that will enable us to find the peace He said He left for us. This morning, I believe that is how our healing can begin. Thank you and bless you, Jess. From E in NC P.S. One of he small things I have been able to do when freezing temps have been forecast these past 3 weeks has been to cover my little rows of winter vegetables with sheets at night and to uncover them in the morning. Listening to you today opened my mind to see that is what has "been in my hand" to do for now! That recognition is a light in this darkness. And knowing that tells me that when we are healed and on the trajectory to His promised peace, we will be able to offer others a testimony that all things are possible.

I am so glad the Lord led me to you. I am a Christian! I love the point "What is in your hand" and "Turning your "waiting room" into a "Class room". God is amazing. In the midst of waiting on the Lord to open doors, we need to keep moving forward, trusting Him to provide for us as we take that leap of faith. Thank you for the amazing devo!

I believe I was lead to hear this today. My husband and I were called in 2021 to grow food and provide not only for ourselves but our community. Soon after in 2022 we were called to a church. Neither of us had been in a church for ten years or more. The thing that is in my hand is my voice. I experienced a revival yesterday that I never in a million years would of thought possible. After hearing this today I just want to share. Sorry if this ends up being long. We had a guest Pastor come yesterday to our church. He spoke of opening up to God and listening to him. To allowing yourself hear what he is calling you to do. He also spoke of the healing power of God through prayers. At the end he asked people to come forward who would like to have a prayer said. I came forward for healing. The Pastor laid his hand on me and prayed. He then told me to keep praying and he'd come back and check on me. No sooner than he walked away a vision of a young man ,who for the first time came to our church, popped into my head and I was told to go pray for him. Me the complete introvert I am, was like I can't do that he will think I'm crazy. I did it anyway.. sacred out of my mind. I sat down next to him and told him I'm being lead to pray for you. I explained that I've never done this, and I'm new to prayer, but I'd like to try. I fumbled with words and said a small prayer. He hugged me and said thank you, but when I went to leave I couldn't. I stood there and began to sing with the worship team and truly open up. The words that needed said for this young man begin to flow through me. I learned over to him and told him what I was being told to say." He knows you are struggling, and you have lost your way, he is here wanting for you. You just have to let him back in". This young man broke down, and I just stood there with him, praying for him and singing the gospel. Another member beside him joined in and began to pray for him also. The Pastor asked him to come forward and he accepted God back into his life. He came up to me after and just hugged me. He said God was speaking to me for sure. That he was setting there having that exact argument within himself, and I was God's answer and push he needed. I believe God speaks to all of us. We just don't know how to listen. People believe that you have to be in tune to God and a devout Christian to have things like this happen but throughout the bible God chose people that the world turned their backs on, looked down upon and those that were non believers to reach out to. Just because you have done bad things in your life, are in a bad situation now, or just don't believe does not mean that you are less deserving to our Father and his love.

I have felt that urgency, that voice, at a few times in my life. When I heeded it my life has always exploded in growth and often joy. The biggest struggle for me was believing I was worthy of the changes offered, or even of being in direct communication with the divine. As I am working thru that, the blessings in my life have multiplied and my ability to help others has grown exponentially. I think what is in my hand is knowledge, and that is the most powerful tool.
