Just wanna say how much Im loving coming to watch all the content you guys have been throwing up every night after each night of playoff games. Ive been a fan of the channel for a few years now, but this is the first time Ive listened/watched all these reaction episodes, all the livestream highlights, and just watching the playoffs with you guys. Stellar work, and love seeing Jake and Jolly's content in particular so much these last few weeks, and has me pulling for a subway series. As a Cub fan, after the brewers, astros, and braves all got bounced in their wild card series, I literally had no one left to root against, and have a bunch of reasons for wanting to see every team remaining go all the way. Love watching this awesome post season so far, and we're only barely half way through!

Context: No vesia, Hudson was not an option today, they were going to need length somewhere from someone. Time to throw the kitchen sink at them in 3 game NY series.

The Dodgers didn't have Hudson available for the game. He didn't feel recovered from Game 1. So that was unexpected. So you were going to have to use Knack at some point. They figured it was better to use Knack early rather than later because you burned up all your high leverage dudes like Phillips, Blake Trienen, Kopech.
@jordansalinas34823 ай бұрын

I agree with Trevor about the dodgers pitching choices, but Dave Roberts said something during the game that may reveal what he was thinking. He said he wanted to keep the game close and have his lineup learn what they can about the Mets’ relievers. By not using the high leverage relievers, the Mets don’t have that knowledge/experience to use in later games. (But every game you win now, is a game you don’t need a reliever to save later)
@NickleAskew3 ай бұрын
If you look at the slash lines for the postseason and what Mark did vs the Phillies it puts you in a huge predicament whether or not you walk Lindor. Definitely not 100/100 walk him every time. Give Vientos the respect he's earned this postseason.
@under-waterbasketweaving3 ай бұрын
Its not even just the postseason, him and lindor were equal hitters this year, Lindor is elite with the glove and thats why he is an MVP level player, but Vientos is as good a hitter as him
@TheAz9433 ай бұрын
its 100% a 100/100 walk him every time. You dont let the mvp bat there with 2nd and 3rd specially when he has a hr literally the inning before. It obviously didnt work but it was the right play to work because theres no reason to believe lindor wouldnt also have hit a hr you are banking on him getting vientos out
@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar3 ай бұрын
@@TheAz943 Correct. (And before I get accused of hating, I’m a Mets fan.) Despite some improvement in plate discipline, Vientos also has a very high chase rate, an atrocious zone contact rate, and a swinging strike rate up around 16-17%, so you absolutely walk Lindor ahead of him. You just can’t be throwing him middle-middle fastballs. This wasn’t a failure of strategy, it was a failure of execution.
@BeTheBallDanny3 ай бұрын
@@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar Vientos is also hitting .400 in the postseason...It was a bad move by Roberts, just admit it everyone...It didn't work
@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar3 ай бұрын
@@BeTheBallDanny You can’t judge a move like that fairly in hindsight. If Vientos had struck out (which he does, a LOT), or if they’d decided to pitch to Lindor, and he’d hit a 3-run bomb, people would have complained that they should’ve walked Lindor, with first base open and a strikeout-prone young RHH on deck. I don’t care about a 9-game sample; Vientos’s .378 postseason average is driven by an absurd .524 BABIP, and it also comes with a 33% K rate that’s in line with what he did during the season. The fact is that Vientos is a right-handed hitter with a ton of chase and swing-and-miss in his game. Landon Knack simply couldn’t execute, decided to give in with a middle-middle fastball, and got burned. As a Mets fan, I’m happy he did, but I’m still more confident in Lindor than I am in Vientos.

Obviously no offense wants to be chasing 5 but after the 2nd inning the Mets didn’t score till the 9th and your 1-5 batters combined 0-19 with 10 men LOB, going 1-9 with RISP isn’t gonna make that incredible comeback happen. The pitching choices put themselves in that position but this offense needed to come through and they couldn’t and I think that needs to be talked about just as much as the arms Robert’s chose to throw.
@TheAz9433 ай бұрын
The big thing about this game is they have to play 3 straight games in NY. You are throwing a bullpen game vs their ace so you use Knack to get you some innings. The high leverage guys were never gonna come in unless the game is close or we are up. We also have 1 less high leverage arm than we did last season. Daniel Hudson was unavailable after being pitched the day before but even if he was used hes been bad this year this is a low leverage guy who you don't trust. Casparius and Hudson unavailble which means you have Brasier, knack, henriquez, banda, honeywell, treinen, kopech, evan phillips to get you 27 outs. You use brasier in inning 1 as you did in the padres series but he looks bad he gives up a bomb and is shaky so you have to remove him. Theres only so many arms you have someone has to get the outs. You dont blow your high leverage guys early vs the mets who have made a living off destroying bullpens at the end of games this post season. The offense was the problem these guys need to start hitting. The dodgers now go into NY with all their top arms completely fresh with 2 starters who arent gonna go deep because of the seasons they are having.
@goldmans953 ай бұрын
Realistically yes knack should’ve been out, but like it all happened in the second inning, if he gets a ground ball off vientos it’s a 2-0 game and he likely is more aggressive with bullpen, in this case one inning and swing changed the whole pace of the game

Dodgers fan here. Fair assessment but I think this game was a calculated loss. We have too many injuries to our bullpen, I see why they wanted to try out our pitchers that either didn't play or played very little in the NLDS ahead of an off day. It sucks to take the loss at home but you want the momentum going again on three straight games. Mets are a great team but even though the Dodgers offense was kept at bay, they always felt scary and that's a good sign.

What was the point of the "bullpen game" if the goal was to give them a rest day if you weren't planning on using them like intended? I'm not really a fan of the idea in the first place, but if you are gonna do it, u have to fully commit. Bringing in Knack in the second inning when your already down 1 doesn't make ANY sense to me. Really felt like the Dodgers gave the Mets a bunch of rope to latch onto when they should have continued on the accelerator and left them in the dust. It's things like this that make me question what is Friedman and what is Roberts. This felt like a very Roberts move. I'm gonna go on a little tangent that requires some speculation, but I think it's a very logical, reasonable assumption that will help hammer in my point. Anyways, against the Padres, Friedman and Roberts went out there with a game plan that they were able to stick to because everything went according to plan. Today, their plan went awry with that Lindor HR. Because Friedman is working with a lot of numbers, it makes sense that he works on the macro level, and therefore needs some time to pivot and find a new way forward. In that interim between plans at the micro level (i.e figuring out who to throw once the game isn't going the way you planned for and getting guys ready in the bullpen), that's when Roberts is forced to make "gut decisions"and THAT'S when every single time it goes to shit. This brings me to my problem with Dave Roberts, which is two-fold: 1) in the regular season, he doesn't need to make gut decisions so when he is asked to do it in the playoffs, it isn't and 2) their is a disconnect between Friedman and Roberts. The Dodgers have continuously said that Dave Roberts is their guy, but I just don't think that Roberts and Friedman are on the same wavelength in these situations and that's when things all go to hell for the Dodgers. I'm not saying that Roberts is a bad manager, hell I'm not even saying that he's not a decently good fit for the Dodgers, but I sure as hell don't think he's the PERFECT fit and THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM.

Either game 6 or 7? Also as you guys have pointed out …..what happens if one of the Dodgers starters “blow up” in one of the games in NY? or indeed more! Back to original comment the Dodgers really looked like they were happy to lose or at the very least prepared to lose that game ……which to me is “nuts” …….trying to be to smart can come back and bite big time!
