It has been a while since the last time we talked about the Pico 4, the biggest and Only Quest 2 and Quest 3 competitor, and it's wasn't even good news, but this time it's different, because the Pico 4s, the next generation, reiteration of the Pico VR headset was finally spotted in the software!
So let's discover together what to expect from it, can Pico compete again with meta and not only with Apple and the Vision Pro like they said?

@@nikushim6665 The planned pico 5 Pro max used a XR2 Gen 2 and had DP support, but i also doubt it will be in the 4s But i expect the XR2 Gen 2 + Wifi6E will allow for better wirless/USB PC VR...

Other than price, their best chance of truly competing with meta is through Display Port. Of course if they add foveated rendering, it will undoubtedly beat the Q3, especially for Sims.

If we don’t get that display port connection like pico 3 neo then they might as well not bother. That would be their main selling point as I can’t see anyone choosing this new version without it over the quest 3. But if I were to dream it would be eye tracking so we have foveated rendering. But I doubt they’ll do that. Quest 3 has a bigger game library so they know they can’t rely on pico 4s being a competitive standalone headset. They need to think more towards the PVCR consumers!

No it needs to be better in resolution, field of view, whole thing is just a blurry mess filled with plenty of life of quality flaws to the brim. I invested almost 500 dollar just to make the pico bearable..

I actually like the Pico 4 better than I like the Quest 3, as I find it more comfortable to wear (one I changed out that facial interface)--and so far, at least, it hasn't crashed and forced me to completely reset my headset. But damn it, SOMEbody needs to give us PCVR players a headset that has DIsplay Port.

Everyone is pushing standalone nowadays and when it comes to the XR2 its always gonna be limited to USB3 or wifi6. Chipset was pretty much designed for cellphones.

Short answer, no. I've already got the first version and i'm not really interested in a new standalone version unless it offers a display port or HDMI connection for dedicated pcvr. I'm currently using Pico Connect 10 but in all honesty, it falls short of virtual desktop as it lacks either the HEVC 10 or H.264+ codecs and doesn't yet have a match for VD's godlike.

With most people using PICO for PCVR there isn’t much benefit to having the upgraded chip. I appreciate the UI would run smoother but we spend most time in apps right? I’d love to see a DP connection & OLED screens. I loved my PICO 4 and really like the idea of some healthy competition for the Quest line.

Yes, it is hard. Cheap headsets like the quest line up is only cheap because they get their money back from user data. There is not other ways.

What's happening now is like what happened in the phone industry from 2012-2016, with Phones getting thinner and thinner and one day, either Apple, or Meta, would release a very thin VR headset which would be like the iPhone 6.

For myself, I would want Display Port connection and also updated pancake optics (Quest 3 is just so much better), as for the controllers, I didn't mind the rings on both Quest 2 and Pico 4 so it's a non issue for me. The Pico 4 is a neat little HMD, hopefully it's refresh will make it a lot better. Just having the Gen 2 chipset would allow it to decode faster and also wifi 6e capable. Time will tell.

Yes with a display poort, the comfort of the P4 blow Quest 3 away, the quest it’s like a brick on your head. The P4 is so much better for comfort.

I agree about the display port direct connection. If they beef up the pico 4, I hope they beef up at least a few 4 pros or enterprises. I love the fact that they have eye and face tracking. Also, I love that gold-coated mylar, space helmet look.

I owned Pico4, it's one of the best balanced headset in weight. With Q3, i need powerbank at back for weight balance, and that will add more overall weight to my head. This is not needed by Pico4, and that means it's overall much lighter. I can feel it if i switch from Q3 to P4. More lighter and balanced. I use Q3 over P4 now due better visuals and lighter controllers. I will wait for Pico 4S Pro model. Pro has eye and mouth tracking. So if they indeed also make Pro model better, i will buy it from China. Ringless controller is nice step, but of course it will make it less stable. And need new knuckles mount on it. Because they use same P4 housing, means pancake will probably same. Maybe new LCD screens for higher resolution to try match with Q3. But overall it will save some redesign costs, and can use existing 3rd party solutions - which is a plus. Same facepadding can used for P4S. Hope they can make controllers a bit lighter. It's more heavier because it needs 2 batteries. (Q2/Q3 need just one) I am waiting for updated Pro version. That is all. Quest Pro 2 might look better, but also much more expensive (P4 Pro is ~ 600, while Q Pro costs 1000 (before 1500) - so yeah it's very interesting price too for face tracking solution!) DP 1.4 alone , still compress the signal...always requires an USB connection... XR Gen2 decompression ability and the necessity to comply with many computers, make Pico Connect limited to 5GBPS and USB3.0 But a USB3.2 alone (or 4.0) and an better XR chip, will give you enough bandwidth to compete against DP for cheap (added to this, you can have an virtual DP1.4 with USB3.2/4)

I wish they'd just release the pico 4 with refreshed SoC and eye/face tracking. Still can't believe eyetracking isn't a default spec of VR headsets. Foveated rendering and encoding + WIFI6E/7 would make any wired option obsolete. Vision Pro and PSVR2 already showed how amazing and useful eye tracking can be

I'm hoping that they will implement DisplayPort connection. I'm still using Pico3Neo Link because so far it is still currently the most affordable and very quick (in terms of latency) PC VR Headset on the market. So I'm looking for upgrade to Pancake Lenses but with Display Port connection and for affordable price. If Pico4S deliver that I will be first in queue to buy it.

Pico connect "upgrade" made my headset almost useless for pcvr (luckily there is Virtual Desktop). In wireless mode I can see my desktop screen but its frozen like I click on something and I can see it working on my monitor but not in vr headset. In USB mode desktop is working but when I start steam vr it freezes after a while, what a shame.

I've notified the problem to Pico...It doesn't work properly as you described when you've selected H265, it works with H264.

@@SETHalpine I tried it and it kind of works. I still cannot do anything on my desktop in vr but all the clicks are visible on the monitor. O the other hand steam vr doesnt freeze so I can play assetto corsa (the only thing I play in vr now) I can also work on my dektop in Vr when in steam vr but whats funny I cannot change anything in pico connect software opened on my desktop even on my monitor I can click anything with no action. Anyways, I can see some improvement compared to streaming assistant but still prefer virtual desktop.

I love my Pico 4 for PCVR as I cant pay for the Quest 3 due to its price here in my country and I was able to get my Pico 4 for the price of the used Quest 2 and it was bnew which was a steal!! and Pico 4 works perfectly with VD.

I mean... I am a European, so whether it's Meta or Bytedance couldn't be any worse either way. That said, I still really love my Pico Neo 3 Link both wireless and wired and while the Quest certainly is the better package, Pico understood that we want a native VR headset. If the P4s supports PCVR streaming too without an account, that'd be amazing. I wouldn't bother to much with visual clarity over Type C since I myself am fine with the compressed picture of the Q1 also but yea, I would love to see a lighter SteamVR headset which is wireless and doesn't tear apart my wallet.

Well this maybe interesting VR news, but these Pico headsets are not sold in the US and probably never will be. No way would I order one Internationally, and would they even work in the US or get support. Still a China-US thing going on. I have the Quest 3 anyway and really enjoy the video quality for doing Sim Racing games on STEAM. Much better VR headset than my Oculus Rift S which is my backup VR headset. The Quest 3 works adequate enough through my link cable to do STEAM SIM racing games. So not really interested about Pico products if they are not interested in selling them in the US.
