You mentioned that Deckard could be using an ARM based chipset. So probably a Qualcomm chip then. Qualcomm is in the process of being sued by the owners of the ARM chip architecture. They could loose rights to the ARM tech if they loose the court case. Unless a new agreement comes to pass between them. This will also effect Meta headsets.

The Meta Quest UI while doing multitasking sometime feels like the game whack a mole, since windows keep swapping places after you open one more, or just disappear to open again. But the almost unfixable thing seems to be the keyboard, i really dislike how it spawn just to cover your pointer, and it reset the position every single time is "called".

Would love a standalone Deckard but it is rumored for years and with my G2 getting killed by MS pulling WMR I am about to buy a Quest 3. Could be years away still

What's the most exciting to me about Deckard is that it will run on Linux. VR headsets always ship with a proprietary Windows app/layer nowadays, and as a Linux user I'm stuck to using the Vive Pro as of now... Not even the Vive Pro 2 supported Linux. (Didn't move to Index as I prefer OLED.) I'm also a professional VR dev in a non-gaming context. Most of my users don't use Windows so the Windows dependency is actually a big hurdle.

Deckard leaks have been going on for a few years now but yet no official word from Valve, is this thing real, meaning a real release product, or is it just a Valve internal experiment never to see the light of day for consumers? As for the AVP, the price tag is way to much for the average Joe just to get a HMD that's still looking for a purpose. What do you really do with it? passthrough? I can take any HMD off and have high res passthrough! LOL 🤪

I hope they don't use those shitty ring controllers.. I hated those on Quest 2

I believe that the moment they formally unveil Valve Deckard will also be the moment we officially get word on Half Life 3. I feel like they will kinda go hand in hand.
@Cooe.13 минут бұрын
This is wrong. It's basically confirmed at this point that that Half-Life: X (the new HL in development) is a traditional pancake game, NOT VR! 🤷
@Cooe.14 минут бұрын
Deckard if it even actually comes out is simply too little, too late. 🤷 Outside of some small niches like sim-racing/flying, PCVR is a dead platform and it's never coming back. Also, there's no ARM SOC that's powerful enough to play high-end PCVR games like Half-Life: Alyx using x86→ARM code translation. They would need to get developers to release native ARM builds to have even a HOPE of getting these games running well. Dumb product is dumb.

Quest 2's PCVR support works perfectly fine... Something is wrong on your PC's end if it's not working correctly. Also, wireless PCVR is INFINITELY more immersive than using a cable, meaning Quest has been one of the best ways to play PCVR for years now.

Crazy that Meta has to sell 2,590,000 Quest 3's at $500 to make the same that apple did with 370,000. I don't think they're cryin... on the way to the bank 🫠
@a5cent3 сағат бұрын
Only if you're talking about turn over, which nobody cares about. Meta makes no profit on their headset sales. Meta is making a long play to lock people into their proprietary and walled VR garden. Apple has a huge profit margin on their sales.
@SargonDragon3 сағат бұрын
This is exactly what people miss when making this comparison. They act as if AVP should be turning unit numbers like Quest, and it's a failure if it doesn't. It's a product for a different market segment. The number of Toyotas sold has no bearing on whether Ferrari is successful or not. And yet, when a product that is 7 times more expensive and being sold at a profit is producing half the revenue as a cheap product being sold way under cost... that's a remarkable result for the expensive product.
