I've never been one to sell any of my tools, unless I'd already replaced them; had way too many guys broke, w/ kids to feed, asking to borrow tools so they could make some bean money. Sell your tools, fools; how you gonna feed your kids? Lotta work to keep everything running, but it sure is nice to be able to fix anything & if I have to, make what I need, then fix it. LOL Good on ya, Steve, you keep workin' hard & doing what you're doing. You're a good man. Be proud as hell of ya, if you my son, or son-n-law; wish my old man had looked out for me the way you're looking out for YOUR future. (My old man built a biz from nothing & took me in, as 'The Future'. Then one day the IRS showed up. He signed papers, pointed at me, said, "He'll handle it.", went home & never came back to the biz. Twenty-five yrs old, out of college < yr, & I had to save a biz because my step-mom, little sister & 35 employees relied on it for their beans. Took me 18 months, I left, never went back, except to shovel his grave full of dirt. Probably why I was never able to depend on someone else. Good on ya, Steve, good on ya.

CNCs can be a huge pain to get up and running. We have had new and old Haas and Hurcos that were problem free and we had new ones that seemed like nightmares to get the small details sorted out. But once they were running, watch out chips are flying!

I worked for two excellent caliber guys who started re-building flight control empennage’s and surface control stabilizers and ailerons etc. they had their tool boxes and little money, and a small home garage. 20 + years later they own one of the worlds most elite aircraft shops, helping build space vehicles among other things and a few years ago sold to one of Americas biggest aerospace corps for an undisclosed amount, but changed the financial economy of the entire state. All from a couple of tool boxes, a garage, some knowledge and a will to work for themselves. Straight Flight Inc. now a subsidiary of Sierra Nevada Corporation.

I was just thinking, from what I remember, you built up a couple other companies and either got screwed or you left but you started your own business again. You definitely have a talent at what you do. I live in Canada, on disability. I can't even work on my own vehicle anymore. Spent 40 years in machine shops. I remember the day a flatbed truck rolled in with a new machine twice the size of your new Haas. We pulled the covers off, and the machine was rusty. It caught rain on the way, and the bag wasn't watertight enough to keep rain out, but it was tight enough to cause the rain that got in to sweat and rust that machine. Shipment was refused. Stay healthy, and honest, and believe in yourself. We do. God bless.

I feel you, Steve! I've been homeless twice. Once was all my doing, the other time was due to circumstances totally beyond my control. I've now got enough money to do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it. I have an awesome wife and an awesome life and don't owe one single dime to any person or entity. It's all mine! I get it, brother. I just kept leveraging myself up, one step at a time and did without if it wasn't an absolute necessity. My kids are grown and rocking it. We have a modest home, but travel almost non-stop. Our life rocks. Anyone can do it, but you have to be willing to live within your means early on. "Live your life now like no one else does so you can live your life later like no one else can."

I'm an electrician in Connecticut and we do a lot of work in a bunch of machine shops and I love watching these machines come in to hook up. Always interested in what they're doing with them and what they do. makes a lot of sense to bring more stuff in house and invest in the future.

I used to work in semiconductor manufacturing in factories (we called them "Fabs") that have hundreds of millions of dollars into "capital equipment". We ran the equipment 24/7/365 to maximize utilization. You might want to consider adding shift(s) to reduce production times and increase throughput. Labor costs obviously will increase, but you already have the building and equipment waiting to be utilized. Assuming adequate demand, this will improve profits. Best wishes going forward!

Same here Steve, same here. I’ve ignored all the naysayers, everyone with doubt. It’s not easy, especially when no one supports you… If you sell a good product, weather it’s goods or service, people are going to be happy and keep coming back… Started small, 23x20 garage… And 3 years later I have zero room for new tools, and customer’s cars lined up like cows for slaughter… lol. I believe next year I’m going to be looking for a bigger shop!

Ive spent nost of my career repairing CNC machines as soon as a saw the Haas logo i got an involuntary shiver, Haas makes a great machine for a machinist but they are an absolute pain in the ass to fix, about half of their fault codes in the book just tell you to call haas.

Once I had it up and running it was a beast, and all those wealthy Miami guys minds were blown at the prototype stuff I was making for their race boats.
