In today's NHL fighting is almost extinct. The NHL wants to go light contact. There is very little place for fighting, or one dimensional players nowadays. There are literally like 7 fighters in the entire NHL now. You need to be able to at least play, to be in the game now. If he can hit, be physical, and contribute, there will be a place for him. If all he can do is fight, he will be gone sooner than later.

With the skill and speed of today’s players the only way he will hit someone will either end up being a minor or game misconduct. Smart players will avoid this slug or let him tie them up and get him to take the roughing penalty. He will be gone in a few years with 80GP and 10 points.

@@trvman1Goons have a place even today, but a PURE goon I would agree with you. Physical players still have a place in todays game, but you need to be able to do something else to actually benefit from the goon style. The age of fighting in the NHL is not nearly what it was when Georges was doing his dirty work. Even if Rempe became the best fighter in the NHL, how does that help the Rangers? Yes he will continue to fight most challengers but if he could round out his overall game even slightly every off season he could be a menace of a power forward. Not saying he’s going to be Milan Lucic but if he’s committed to staying in the big leagues which I’m sure he is he could quickly become less of a reckless punk and more of a player gms stumble over themselves to replicate. I wasn’t a huge fan of his early in the season I will admit. I’m a caps fan so it’s tough to root for any Ranger but this kid is growing on me and I’d like to see him succeed.

Fighting is interesting. Coming from a Flyer’s fan from the early 70’s - the Broad Street Bullies anyone? But who cares about all that now. What I care about? A goalie that will get us into the playoffs-offs and beyond. Nothing else matters.

Fighting, especially the way Georges did it, is about balance. Yes, he could overpower a lot of guys, but he could also take on guys even bigger and stronger than he was, thanks to his skating. This could turn out to be nothing, but it's possible that Rempe will end up being a better player in general, depending on what this training actually looks like.

Rempe is bad. Full stop. He hits, fans cheer, the guy he's hit moves on as though he's not been hit. He's not good at fighting, skating, hitting, shooting or passing. It's not clear he should be in the ahl even. He wins faceoffs, which is a real skill, and I respect him trying to live his dream but the most likely result of him being allowed to go up against NHL athletes is he's going to get hurt. Stop this stupid hype, please. He energizes the crowd, which... cool I guess. I don't think the nhl is even slightly chilled, nevermind terrified.

lol that doesn’t say much in this soft league. That kid wouldn’t last a game playing how he plays back when there were real enforcers. He would be a career minor leaguer. I can’t remember the last full game so watched that I actually enjoyed. Berryman has done nothing but destroy the grit, heart’ and passion the players used to play with. gary Bettina has successfully ruined the nhl.
