My friends mom was a special ed teacher at Cleveland High... we were talking about how colleges were getting in trouble for just letting kids in with bad grades and phony test scores ... she said "we had this kid at Cleveland named Nick something who couldn't read or write but somehow got into USC" ... I said "are you talking about Nick Young?"... she said "yeah you know him"... I told her his goofy ass was on the Lakers and he has the highest losing percentage (713%) of any player in the league with more than ten years... It was also the day the DeAngelo Russell story broke... So she saw Nick on every channel after that...she said he was the nicest kid ever but no one at Cleveland did anything to teach him academically... They just passed him for basketball and only basketball...

I know several dudes like this. A former player named Darius Miles was like this. I played against him in AAU...I'll say this: Life ain't fair but it's balanced. It wasn't fair that people like Nick and Darius got a pass because of their athletic abilities while the rest of us had to play by the rules and get good enough grades. But, in the end, them getting a pass changed the lives of their parent(s) and several loved ones and people close to them for the better- and kept them alive instead of being another statistic in the hood- and I'm ok with that. That's the balance of life. Good on him.
