They mentioned Jeff was 28. The commentator also started calling Jeff, Roger in the 2nd round. AND, they screwed up the compubox numbers in the 1st round, giving Mayweather credit for outlanding Oscar 18 to 9, when it was the opposite.

De La Hoya had a hell of a career. Fought from 130 to 160. Won his first world belt in 94, fought old legends like Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker, and faced prime warriors like Trinidad, Quartay, Mosley, Vargas, Hopkins. Even after he came back from retirement he fought a prime Mayweather and Pacquiao! The Golden Boy truly lived up to his name.

Jeff Mayweather moved to his left the entire fight never circling to the right. I’m surprised he didn’t get dizzy!😵‍💫 And I know that he was probably trying to avoid Oscar’s left hook which was inevitable. But you have to switch it up sometimes. Hands were entirely too low with barely any head movement. He was a sitting duck for Oscar De La Hoya’s over hand right all night.

Nice to see a competent Referee.. Jeff was out on his feet just fighting on heart and instinct, im not a huge Mayweather fan but i respect anyone who laces them up against the best. That was impressive By oscar too.. he looks so polished at such a young age.. he found the right hand early and used that to get him leaning right into the left over and over again.. and of course his jab kept everything disruptive for Jeff.. it was a clinic.

Not even close. Oscar would get better. He had a long prime. Mid 90s to 2004. Still was a top fighter until the night he fought Pacquiao where he was drained and a walking skeleton. Oscar was in his prime most of his career but when that happens usually the ending is very sudden and abrupt. Nobody expected Pac to do that. Oscar was done before the fight started.

Oscar lost every single big fight he was in guy, what prime, he beat an old chavez, and an old whittaker, and lost to every other great fighter he fought

@@eclisis5080 he was #1 pound for pound boxer in the world in the mid 90s , he arguably beat Trinidad and Shane Mosley in the rematch , was 6 time world champion in 6 different weight classes and arguably outboxing Bernard Hopkins before he got knocked out . Mayweather couldn’t hurt him when de La Hoya was 39 years old already when they fought , do I need to say more ? O and not to mention 1992 Olympic gold medalist

DLH would be a problem for any fighter from any era in his prime. Had those hands, mean streak, jaw and was built perfectly. Could box or fight it out. Very quick and a great finisher. This wasn't his prime mind you. Only 4 fights in and still a cake walk. He was always his best when he got that strong jab going.

There is absolutely no telegraphing at all on those punches by Oscar. He never loaded up at all. His punches were quick, snappy, and powerful with his guard always up, and his feet under him taking small steps to cut the ring off. Jeff is trying to get a feel for Oscars timing so he can move his head, but Oscar is constantly breaking up the rhythm of his attacks, plus Oscars body language stayed the exact same no matter what he was about to throw. Jeff is almost always miliseconds late to move his head, or block the punch in this fight, and when Jeff is caught off balance, Oscar looks to fire off a combination. It's crazy how good Oscar was early in his career as a pro. His amateur experience really helped him, and gave him more confidence going into the pro ranks. To do that to a 28 year old Jeff Mayweather in such dominant fashion is phenomenal for any young talented boxer.
