Two weeks ago, the contemporary A cappella group I co-direct competed at AcaTex, an A cappella competition hosted in North Texas.
I went to the group about a month before the contest with a crazy idea. "Let's bring them something they've never seen before." I wanted to add two songs to our three song set and choreograph them both in less time than it normally takes to learn one song. The group doesn't meet as a class so all of our rehearsals were before/after school. (Some class time was given closer to competition time)
In the end, we all believed in what we were trying to do. Not a single one of us went out on that stage to win, and in that unified vision, we ended up taking home first place.
I could not be more proud of these students, and I'm pretty proud of myself! I arranged this song after one of the students suggested in earlier in the year and my girlfriend and I figured out the choreography after that.
If you are in an a cappella group and you want to perform this arrangement, follow this link to purchase sheet music!
(if link is not posted, I am still setting it up. Thanks for your patience.)
If you would like a custom arrangement/choreography/concept for your set, feel free to email me at alex@alexpoolecomposer.com
Thanks so much for watching! I am currently working on a HUGE video talking about my process of conceptualizing the set, arranging the music for the two songs, choreographing both songs, and teaching it all to high school students!
Little brag: the MC of the contest was DEKE SHARON, the father of contemporary a cappella music. He liked my songs. I did fanboy a bit.
