It’s a big argument which it is; it involves both holidays, and takes place in the interval between, so I’d say it could be either, or both. Because of the Tim Burton gothic vibe, and the fact that it is mainly from the point of view of Jack and his cohorts, I’m inclined to say it’s more Halloween than Christmas, myself, but if others want to watch it as a holiday film, I won’t stop them.

You're really hung up on that "My dearest friend" line. Referring to someone you love as your best friend isn't a sign of being friend zoned. He was just acknowledging how deep their relationship has been and just didn't see it before that night.

I am reminded of John Adams (the second president of the United States) who would always start or end his correspondence letters to his wife with "My dearest friend"

Sandy Claws was used because Jack was "giving them what they want" and so he indulged in the more Halloween-eqsue aspects to ease them into it and give himself the chance to do something different.

Umm, Jack didn't actually see Santa in Christmas Town, jus a shadow. So, his impression would be a bit skewed.

Tim Burton's signature is the spiral. Batman Returns? Penguin has a spiral umbrella. Mars Attacks? The female wears a dress decorated with spirals. Alice in Wonderland? Alice falls down a spiral tunnel. Planet of the Apes? The gorilla's helmets have spirals. In this movie, Jack has the problem of perspective: *his* countrymen only understand icky, gooey & disgusting. That was normal to him, too. Until he was immersed in a land diametrically opposed to his! No wonder he can't explain it! He barely comprehends it, himself! This movie harkens back to the classic Christmas TV specials, with claymation animation. Physical puppets filmed a few frames at a time, their positions changing minutely between each few frames. During a visit to the Disney MGM land at Walt Disney World in Florida, I saw some of the "sets" & puppet figures used to make this film. The tallest figure was only four or five inches tall. The Grinch is owned by a different studio, I believe. Jack Skellington is bald because his head is a skull. Sandy Claws was Jack's mishearing of Santa Claus. It never occurred to him it wasn't descriptive of the head figure! The turkey is Thanksgiving, the holiday held in November. Sally was made from stuffed fabric, animated. I bought the VCR cassette on the basis of having A) read about the making of this film in Starlog Magazine; & B) having seen the claymation puppets at Disney World. While I still had a working VCR, I always watched this film between Halloween & Christmas. Regarding Christmas, BlissFlix, have you seen It's a Wonderful Life? It's a black & white classic that's both timeless & universal, in my opinion; & should be fairly easy to follow.

The funny thing is though, Tim Burton didn't direct this film. He merely created the story. Or, at least, the essence of it.

Henry Selick is best known for directing the stop-motion animated films James and the Giant Peach (1996), Monkeybone (2001), Coraline (2009), and Wendell & Wild (2022). My favorite is Coraline based on the work by Neil Gaiman.

He "friend zone her"... Trust me, the BEST relationships you can have with a female is KNOWING that she is also your "dearest friend". Because there will be far more connections to each other than JUST romance. IF you are LUCKY, your "dearest friend" WILL be the one who you end up with because THAT will be a happy couple.
@k1productions877 ай бұрын
I have never subscribed to the idea that being a good friend was some kind of dead end. I've always wanted to ask "does that mean you can only be romantic with someone who isn't a friend to you?" I just don't understand the logic at all.

29:44 - agreed that it's a christmas movie, idc what anyone says. It has Halloween aesthetics, but it's ABOUT Christmas. Mirroring how Jack spends most of the movie obsessing over the aesthetics of Christmas but not understanding what it's really about. When he gets over trying to claim Christmas for himself, then Christmas comes to Halloween town - b/c what drew jack to Christmas was the sense of love and joy but he doesn't really understand these things, love and joy are things you have only when you STOP searching for them, you discover they've been there all along. Thats what Sally represents - when jack was singing 'what does it mean?', Sally was outside his window with gifts, but they were authentic to who she and Jack are so they were sppoky and didn't have Christmas aesthetics, hence Jack didn't even notice he had 'Christmas' right there all along

@Psycopathicus10 ай бұрын
Personally, I always watch this movie around Halloween, but there's definitely an argument that it is actually a Christmas film in disguise. Apparently, Tim Burton was first inspired to write the story when he went into a store and saw Halloween decorations sharing the shelf with Christmas stuff not long after Halloween, so really, either one is appropriate. If you want a really Tim Burton-y Christmas movie, though, I would suggest 'Batman Returns' - or 'Edward Scissorhands', I suppose, but really, 'BR' is just pure, unfiltered Burton, and it is definitely a Christmas film.

Another great reaction from a beautiful reactor! I think it's definitely a Halloween movie, but good enough to watch any time of the year! If you want to see some more great claymation, or stop motion animation, Nick Park, from Aardman Animation directed a series of four Oscar award winning Wallace and Gromit short films. Together, they'd make a great reaction video. There's also a full length Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Chicken Run is also a great movie from the same people. The stop motion film Coraline is also really good. Thanks for a great year of great videos. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hey there Ms.Biss. Merry Christmas. Love your reaction as always. As a long-term follower that started with your music reactions, if you enjoyed the songs from this movie, you should react to some the the music from the "Nightmare Revisited." It was an album released for the 15th anniversary of the movie where all the songs were redone and covered by rock bands. Just to name a few, Marilyn Manson - This is Halloween, Flyleaf - What's This, Korn - Kidnap the Sandy Claws, and Rise Against - Making Christmas. Again, hope you have a great holiday and the best of luck in the new year. Can't wait to see what's to come. 👍👍

🎶 "Just because I cannot see it, doesn't mean I can't believe it!" 🎶 Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: The first fully animated Disney film to not be traditionally animated. Inspiration Origin Fact: Tim Burton has said the original poem was inspired after seeing the Halloween merchandise display in a store being taken down and replaced by a Christmas display. The juxtaposition of ghouls and goblins with Santa and his reindeer sparked his imagination. Music Enthusiast Fact: In Oogie Boogie's (Ken Page) Song, there was a story boarded sequence where bugs came out of Oogie's eye and danced on his arm before he belches them off. It was removed from the film because it was considered difficult to make miniature armatures for all the bugs. Another scrapped scene involved his shadow dancing on a rotating orange background and was traditionally animated but ended up being cut for timing. Despite this, the lyrics during these scenes were included in the film's soundtrack. Math Enthusiast Fact: A crossed-out calculation on Jack's (Chris Sarandon) blackboard seems to equate 3 times the square of pi multiplied by 12 to Christmas Day (a Santa hat). The true numerical answer is approximately 355.31. If the decimal portion is dropped, this then equates to December 21st, the 355th day of the year--hence the crossed-out equation. December 21st however is the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere (winter solstice). It is also the birthday of Jeffrey Katzenberg, the film's executive producer and most often credited for turning Walt Disney Studios and its animation division around after joining in 1984.

You were misinformed. This is not a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, it's both! Or it's a Halloween TO Christmas movie. Watch it anytime inbetween the holydays when your festive spirit is sapped. Maybe every day? Or why not keep it running non stop in the background from October until new year. You will start dreaming of Danny Elfman melodies. :D Merry Halloween and a spooky Christmas! 👻🤶💀🎅🦴

So? I have a tattoo from this film. I have a belt buckle of Jack. Most of my clothes including my socks which I am currently wearing are merch from. My throw pillows. And my Santa hat. I also did a song for my recital in high school. So I'm allowed to give my opinion of this film because I am a little biased. Oh. I the audio version the rest of the end was included. They got married and had skeleton children. Santa, now a good friend of Jack's would visit and they would talk about the past Christmas.

Technically this is considered MORE of a Christmas movie than a Halloween one. It just happens to center around Halloween concepts ADAPTING to Christmas concepts. On a personal note. When this came out in theaters, I treated my mom to a night of going out to eat and seeing a movie. THIS is the movie we saw, and she was confused and didn't really like it that much. BUT when the parents came down the stairs and asked the kid "What did Santa bring you this year" and he held up the shrunken skull, she completely LOST IT. It is really the only part of the movie that she remembered. Around the time that my little girl was 2yrs old, she fell in LOVE with this movie and watched it almost on a daily basis. She knew all the songs and all the lines, so she would literally watch it while saying the lines for everyone at the same time the character said it. I blew her mind when I came home from work from a 1/2 day due to the holidays and saw her watching it and starting SINGING Jack's song in the cemetery. She just watched in stunned silence as I did the entire song and then asked me to do it again with HER singing it. That song kind of became "our thing" for a while, and all I had to do was start the song and she would kick into "high gear" and sing it along with me at the top of her lungs. Needless to say, the wife did NOT like the fact that we would do this on car rides or at the supper table, but me and my daughter LOVED it and can still get each other to crack up by just THREATENING to start singing the song. (And she's nearly 20 years old..... and YES, I did embarrass her one or two times playing the soundtrack and singing along with it when I picked her up from school.)

Did they change the name of Santa to Sandy because of copyright? No, I think as shown with the snowflake Jack cut into a spider and web, everything the people of Halloween town do defaults to Halloween themed. There thought processes too all revolve (as shown throughout the whole movie) around Halloween. They do not and never have known different. This is why Jack spends so much time trying to comprehend it. The name in the movie is changed because this revolves around their thought processes defaulting everything into something Halloween themed, hence Sandy CLAWS. They may have heard Santa Claus, but their brain interpreted Sandy Claws.
