As we continued on with our work in the bilges, we found the last thing we wanted to- more holes. We thought we were done welding on the hull, but clearly we were wrong. This steel boat rebuild is not going as planned, again, and we are looking at an even later launch date as we deal with problem after problem after problem.

I wish I had seen this before. I play golf with the owner and founder of a ceramic coating company that prevents corrosion about the water line for 20 plus years. No toxins no vocs no odors and antimicrobial. You did a great restoration

This video for me interested in knowing more about rust and steel boats. I did a google search and read an article. I got to the bottom, and who wrote the article? Wayward life! Your becoming the pro at this.

My experience is that when I think I am done sanding, I am actually 25% complete. Same for other such tasks. My thinking is that if you did not find any bumps in the road you would have missed something. A setback, yes, but a minor one. Here's to a great and wonderful 2024.

Buy a boat they said. It'll be an adventure they said. Hopefully this part of the adventure is coming to an end soon and you can get moved on to the fun part before it's too far into 2024. Here's to hoping you guys had a great holiday and will have much less welding in the new year.

You should have some 1/4" copper plates that can be cut, (annealed by heating to red so they are soft), and formed as a tight backing plate. These will act as heat sinks and minimize blowouts as well as keeping the outside of the weld somewhat shielded from atmosphere so back grinding can be minimal.

We also had ceramic tiles we could have used to do that. Not sure why we didn’t this time

I have friends that have osmosis. I have a steel hull. Steel is a dream to fix compared to osmosis. Imagine you had to put heat blankets cut 6 ft of fibreglass...remove all cores and 100 percent dry...etc etc etc.. Steel is awesome. Bitumen paint is used alot. My boat is 45 years old

We rebuilt the entire chain locker of a cored fibreglass boat before getting this one. De-cored it, laid all the new fibreglass and rebuilt the deck head. We are unfortunately well acquainted with both materials. Def prefer steel, but mostly prefer to not have to rebuild large portions of any boat 😂

Great videos . Informative and entertaining. But I fear that for every hole you find there is another that's hiding. At what point does the hull need to be fully re-plated with steel? Food for thought.
@WaywardLifeSailing
@WaywardLifeSailing 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! With the processes we have followed the chances of there being something else hidden are pretty slim. Possible, but not highly likely. Most of the boat has been fine. It’s just that 1/16 of plating that we have replaced that really has any issues, and for the most part we have figured out what caused those issues and going forward we can mitigate them! So generally we are feeling pretty confident about going forward.
