My first attempt at Nightmare Ironman was destroyed in Thousand Needles to a Moo-Moo caster. Yeah casters are your bane, either CC them into the ground or have a pet to tank it or just don't. Last year I did a High Risk Nightmare Ironman. Went with the whole hunter pet. And I got like half of the hunter bow attacks, Rockbiter for my two weapons, Aspect of the Viper AND Hawk. Was amazing for quick mana regen, windshear for interrupt. Oh and this was Wildcard, not even draft. I couldn't believe my luck. After hitting cap I was crying it felt SO good! It was quite the dream run. The only issue I ever had was another Ironman in the Salt Flats that was eyeing me pretty badly and I GTFO but it was really smooth sailing til the end after that.

1:30 a pet actually doesn't put the challenge on easy mode because the pet dies after 2 hits anyways in nightmare mode😉 IF you consider to make your pet a tank. If you want a pet for a secondary damage output or for it to tank if you about to die it's maybe good but even then it is better to go full into frostmage. At least for me it worked like that and I did this challenge first try. I even was able to fight casters, because of interrupts :D So in conclussion: Go full Frostmage, never get hit, avoid casters and find good zones to get levels safely and your good to go 🙃

They die in ~6.7 melee hits. The easiest build I've found is send pet into pyroblast scorch (optional second scorch) fireblast. Huge bonus if I can get Flame On! The pet takes ~one melee hit before pyro lands and the aggro is traded to me, then pet helps with burst (growl off) and finishing. I can kill casters safely this way because they usually go to low health and begin to flee right before finishing their first cast, and if they do happen to get that cast off the pet was their target. Generally double-triple pulls with a caster plus a melee or two are okay as I can blast the caster, then heal the pet in time. Such burst negates the threat of taking damage. Kaaaaa BOOM bopbopbopbop. Much funner too than taking it slow. Pet is not so good with frost nova build. Pick one or the other. Pet/bow/slowkite is okay too but casters can be a problem. Gotta keep it interesting; full frost single-pull-only isn't too exciting. ;) I think it's why McD went back into a cave. He knew it was dangerous. He even saw them respawning and started panicking more and more and could've hearthed at that point. But he wanted fun and content xD.

Use frost shock instead of fireblast with your frost builds for the quick burst! Also, never go in caves or fight elites. Just always avoid them. And NEVER let a caster finish casting, abuse LOS and interrupt. Casters are the deadliest. I would also recommend getting resist buffs(totems or spells work). Nature, fire and shadow are the most common elements you face in the open world. Just focus on power questing. If I can do it on tbc, you can do it too.

Nightmare Ironman was super fun to do.. When I did it I went with a marksman build with no pet, even if the pet takes bonus dmg aswell it is kinda cheesy. But I did find out that trying to mitigate damage becomes extremely hard later on in levels, especially against casters, and you're better off building to completely avoid damage, rather than mitigate. Also Kurzed :3 Hunters scale alot better than casters in early levels, aimed shot, arcane shot and an auto is usually enough to 1 shot most mobs your own level.

yeah casters take awhile to come online but at lvl 25 or 30 when you get double flametongue and the 100% crit damage talents you 1 shot mobs with 1 frostbolt crit or smite/fireball

The mobs aren't bugged by the way, it's working exactly as intended. Even without nightmare boar charges hurt bad because its something like 100 extra damage on hit when they use it, which if you're taking 300% more damage obviously is gonna end you. Spells as well, spells have incredibly high damage to compensate for their cast times. Nightmare mode is good because instead of basically ignoring every monster on your path to 60, you have to learn what they do.

17:32 As soon as I saw you target that geomancer, I started yelling at the screen saying 'NO! STOP!'... My advice when starting this mode: Do everything in Northshire (To level 9 or 10), skip Elwyn Forest completely and head to Westfall. Start doing your quests in there. Also, avoid casters LIKE THE PLAGUE. When you get to it: Mana-Forged Barrier, high block percentage w/ shields, AOE spell like arcane blast, Blessing of Sanctuary (block = mana) and Aspect of the Viper and for enchants, Unbounded Deathbringer. It allows all of your attacks a chance to heal you. You can solo max-level normal dungeons with this build, so it's extremely tanky. Also... get the Defensive Magic enchant. You can still block/dodge/parry while casting. Suuuuuper useful. 18:59 If you're going to use Thorns, then also use Retribution Aura and Burst of Thorns epic enchant along with the stuff I listed above. I'll do a run with Nightmare/Ironman. Show you how I do it, and then link the video for you.

Stuff like thorns, UNbounded etc. don't work anymore since they changed the Arcane Fortitude capstone from buffing them; now their damage is so garbage they're not worth investing in. If they ever revert it then they'll be good again but now they're turbo garbage.

polymorph, frost nova, interrupts, feign death, pets, and quick casting heals are paramount in nightmare and elites are usually off limits unless you are 3+ levels higher than the targeted elite

If you give this another try, I recommend shadow dots, fear, and Drain Life. DL can help offset the insane damage you take, and Dots + Fear is as tried and true as it gets.

so I have done ironman nightmare and succeded twice on past seasons. I did use a pet. I would suggest night elf as your race. their racial ability can save you from trouble. stop spells in mid-air if you get unlucky. And if you get lucky and can time it just break combat. Frostbolt is a good idea, honestly most spells are. pyroblast + anything is pretty good. start with pyroblast for big front damage then finish with other spell. The policy of kill it before it can get to you is really important. Fear is also pretty strong too. saved me a couple times. Also casters are the biggest pain, since they one shot. Also be afraid of mobs with instant cast spells. For casters though you can just los them.

I did ironman nightmare when I first stumbled onto this channel highlighting this private server. I did a frost bolt/bird caster build (no pets), with sheep and ice trap and I can honestly say ice trap is op in nightmare mode. Divine shield or Lay on Hands is also really solid. Also, a word to the wise, DO NOT ENGAGE CASTERS. Especially pre level 30 and if you don't have a silence effect. Poison's are also pretty bad. Also, avoid the rares. They can be killed but sometimes they are tough to predict and I didn't expect some of their spells, so they ended a few runs for me. You definitely have to take it slower than normal and pick out your quests, and the zones you play in well in advance. But pretty solid attempts. I would never go stealth/melee personally but you can try it. Keep up the good work!

Pro tip you can flick on mana forged barrier before a spell hits you to reduce its damage by a lot. It’s also good vs casters that you know have instant cast spells.

I completed ironman/nightmare run on Al'ar with my first try character, if you know basics of kiting and hiding behind things to avoid any possible damage there is no threat in casters.... I was lucky too since on level 1 I could pick frostbolt and tame beast :D the only surprise that nearly killed me was a golem in Searing Gorge that do instant AoE spell damage when low on health that I didn't knew about lol

I always follow a philosophy of “if I take damage at all, I am playing it wrong” with nightmare. Damage reduction is honestly fairly worthless lol.

Some suggested spells: Vanish (when you pull 20mobs, just vanish and you should be fine); divine shield (for cases of: divine shield + HS, granted you could have mass entangle and HS :D)

So, the boar's have a normal ability that is present in all versions of WoW. When aggro'd, it sprints and it's first melee attack does like 4x normal damage. So the damage is being multiplied there and then multiplied again for nightmare effect.

I joined Warmane last night. I love Ascension but I miss Wotlk. It was the only xpac where every class felt OP in skilled hands. Frost-mage, destro lock, arms warriors, pally's, dk's, MM hunters etc. If Asension ever launches Wotlk I'll be back for sure! I'd love to see Asension run a gauntlet of xpacs starting from Vanilla to Cata. DeathWing breaking the planet would've finished the Panda's forever. They can barely get by when things are normal.

Aw man, fire ball and shadow bolt casting mobs hit like trucks in base game as well. That's why you got one shotted lol. Every boar also has a charge that does stupid dmg on base game and you have 300% dmg boost to that, hence oneshot as well xD

u could have goon with vanish just incase things like this happen...but hey it's a good idea for future 3-4 mobs on u VANISH :) also little tip u could grab sprit+pala buble and run out of there while also ahving vanish, but when it comes to heals take the druid heals over the priest, heal+hot :)

de-aggro'ing has to do with range this is the same on both Ascension and retail/classic. Once you go far enough out of range the mob drops aggro, regardless of how much damage you were doing to it.

Desolace is an awesome levelling zone even for alliance. The Kolkar chain yields massive exp and good gear, but the quests in camp are also great. Its a grinding zone 😍

man as someone who did nightmare-iron-reso-wildcard mode this was enjoyable to watch hahaha. Watching you go in the Kurzen cave actually put me on the edge of my seat cause it is SO difficult especially if you have no idea what you're up against. And I don't wanna be that guy but you could've lived if you hearthstoned after - but I assume you didn't wanna hearth for the challenge however. If I ever run caves like kurzen I never try to back peddle through them I just hearth lmao. Regardless was enjoyable to watch.

Nice to see you keep trying. Your mob selection kinda sucked though. I just avoid casters and a dmg shock for instant dmg solves a bunch of issues. Undead starting area > silverpine > hillsbrad > Arathi highlands/thousand needles > feralas > felwood > winterspring/wpl That should help you get to 60 if you take that pathaway from casters and ranged.

Yeah I remember in vanilla wow my first time in STV doing those quests. I skipped that cave. Way too much trouble for me on my own. Of course I'm alot wiser now and know how to handle that stuff. But with the challenge mode I prob wouldn't have survived past lvl 8

Challenge modes are probably my fav thing to do on ascension...tried nightmare and survivalist on A52 the other day and miscalculated an elite and dead :( Edit, getting flamed in world chat when a toon dies is hilarious even when it happens to me 😂

Played hardcore classic and love watching mcdoubles try it because i KNOW hes too hyper active for this type of challenge lmao. 1.) Do not go into caves at all because of dynamic respawns. 2.) DO NOT go for treasure chests. 3.) Avoid ALL Casters/Ranged. 4.) Make sure you are higher level than the mobs by like max level(green mobs), if you are doing the NM/IM challenge. 5.) Avoid Elite quests. Anyway Congrats on 37 thats a good run for winging it =)

I did my Iron-Nightmare challange on draft mode with the idea of: if they die instantly they can't kill me. So it was just Pyroblast, Holy Fire, Fire Blast. In case they were still alive I had Mana Shield and Power Word: Shield. Also I had a useless hunter pet who was useful sub lvl30

I've done the ironman nightmare challenge with and without a pet and the pet route is so easy compared to the no pet route.

I have Faith he's going to bust this challenge wide open at some point, Hopefully soon. But there are better areas to Level in with not so many spell casters or worse Stampeding Charge Boars or Enemies with Charge in general. Personally I'd farm, the Melee enemies like the Champions in Redridge or Gnolls of Westfall but the Third part of the Militia quest with the Knuckledusters and other melee type would be a bit more preferable, and It wouldn't hurt to have something like Polymorph Over Fear, Because Fear can wind up killing a run quickly. and HoJ with max stun time or a Stun period, would be Ideal when your Interrupt is on CD. And Green Level enemies would be better to focus on, since there is a less likely chance to miss as well. Keep going man you'll get it soon! 💖✨⭐💖

It is possible but very hard bc the scaled mobs are superior to non scaled mobs. I ditch the starter zone asap now
