NKG for me has easily been the second hardest boss I’ve fought, but I haven’t made it through the pantheon yet. Still stuck on fucking zote. The random elements in that fight drive me insane. That, and he’s the only boss (that I’ve seen at least) that can fake you out on an attack and slap you with a shockwave as you try to heal

A lot of people consider NKG to be the hardest fight in the whole game even harder than the true, hidden final boss. But I don't think that includes the pantheon fights. some of those are just insane.

(No spoilers in my comment, unless you consider abbreviations of boss names a spoiler.) I've beaten every boss in the game and my top 5 hardest bosses are: 5. Hornet Sentinel 4. The 3d pantheon's final boss 3. Nightmare King Grimm 2. PV 1. ABS RAD I for some reason have an inexplicable difficult time with Hornet Sentinel and the last boss at the end of pantheon 3. Not gonne name that boss cuz of spoilers of course. I've never defeated the boss that shall not be named without cheese. I still consider NKG, PV, and Abs Rad harder though cuz I gave those bosses a lot more attempts and I just couldn't get myself to try to cheese them cuz I liked their boss fights to much. Thankfully out of the 3 only NKG is cheesable if I'm correct.
@De_Vegi
@De_Vegi 2 жыл бұрын
@@Wonkess_Chonkess I had no idea NKG was cheeseable. Though I am proud to say I was a platforming noob before NKG, and after, I can beat 85% of hollow knight bosses with ease. It only took 40 hours on that boss alone without cheese, it’s…. It’s fine, I’m fine….

4:35 he's actually talking about "hungry knight" which was team cherry's first game and it was a flash game about a knight breaking seals and rescuing their sealed away friend but he has to eat constantly to stay alive. Yes, it is the exact same character you are playing in the game, and the breaking the seals event is born from that amateur flash game as well! It's quite amazing that the mask designs and the player sprite is almost identical with hollow knight. The game was made in a game jam too i believe, so it was made in a vey short time and got relatively bad ratings as well, but look what it became at the end! I love mister mushroom knows about the stuff outside the game he's in, it fits his character very well. There's a cinematic involving mister mushroom, you'll understand his wisdom if you see the cinematic, a worthy character to break the 4th wall.

If you haven't already, I would advise you not look up the remaining endings - at least not yet! This game doesn't explicitly spell it out for you, but it does signpost fairly well what the final decision you need to make is and I think the ending hits harder if you make that decision for yourself without knowing what the result of your decision is going to be. It's not the end of the world or anything if you have already looked it up, but I very much encourage you to go into the final endings blind if possible. So... I have a confession to make. I lied to a while ago. Well, it technically wasn't a lie, but rather a misdirection. Back when you fought Troupe Master Grimm in episode 11, I said that "Grimm is my absolute favorite boss in the game". That is true, but I wasn't talking about the Troupe Master, I was talking about the Nightmare King. Nightmare King Grimm is so much to fight, and remains incredibly fun even after you "master" the fight. He never becomes a pushover like a lot of the other bosses do, but it's almost like he respects the effort you've put into to training against him, because once you learn his patterns, the fight just... clicks into place. This video to me encapsulates the experience of fighting NKG very well, I would say. This is the experience shared by basically everyone: You have the first few attempts where you're so overwhelmed by the new and unprecedented speed at which this enemy attacks that you can't even land a single hit. Then the next several attempts where 90% of your focus is purely on dodging the attacks, but you're slowly making progress on that front to the point where you can get a hit in here and there. Then you beat the first phase for the first time and realize - 18:00 - "I'm progressing! I progressed!" After taking a well needed break away from the game (don't worry Amber, ALL of us took more than one session to beat NKG, in fact, I would say most of us probably took at least 3) you come back refreshed and playing better than when you left. And it's around the time that you start making it to phase 3 that you realize - 27:50 - "I know all of these moves now. Now it's all just my skill level." It's hard to say when exactly the transition happened, but you've come to realize that at some point the boss stopped seeming impossible and became merely "very difficult". Not long after that, you start feeling the urge to rush through phase 1 cause you know you can beat it now, and the next several runs are spend adding time skips to deal damage to Grimm faster - finding smaller openings to safely attack because you're getting very familiar with the fight. The moment you started pogo-ing the very end of Grimm's Dive Dash at 31:40, I knew you only had a few more tries before you would beat him. It might seem like a small thing, but having the awareness of Grimm's exact timing, and the confidence to attack him in that tiny window makes that specific time save one of the most difficult to do and demonstrates very clear mastery over the fight. And sure enough, you beat him the following attempt. Most of us followed a very similar path (though most of took... many more tries that you did...) and the fact that this fight has pretty much that exact same learning curve for everyone is one of the things I love about it. All of that said congratulations! You've beaten what almost everyone would consider one of the most challenging bosses in the game (and that's even when you include the very endgame bosses). NKG marks a massive milestone. And to reward that milestone, you got a percent, bringing you up to 108%! Unfortunately, by giving Fragile Heart to Divine, you technically lost a charm, and therefore brought you percent back down to 107%. Hints on places to go: - Blue Lake? Might be an idea to swing by there, it's been a while since you've been... (hint, hint) - There is a room in Fog Canyon that you never fully explored becsause you discoverted it before you found Isma's Tear. Honestly, I totally forgot that you missed this room until another comment pointed it out, but it's definitely worth returning to. I normally end these comments with reminders of things you have expressed interest in returning to, but this episode you did one of the last two things, and you made quite clear that you intend to do the other (go to the "birthplace") in the next episode, so instead I'll just end with comment wishing all who read this to have lovely day!

Update to the list of hints and gentle reminders (and I’m not sure if you saw my comment last time😁) - For that sweet money… Not sure if you have more relics to sell, but you can also redo any of the Colosseum trials (you get about 1000, 2000 or 3000 geo respectively). Great place to farm a few 100 (or even a few 1000) geo quickly is at the bottom of Kingdom’s edge (not too far from King’s station). Those little hoppers give a shitload of geo (with the greed charm on), they’re easy to kill and if you leave the room the whole gang respawns right away. - Not the end of the world but try NOT to look up anything about the ENDINGS. Maybe later (at least after the next ending you’ll get soon) if you’re not sure you have the skill/time/energy (yet) and want to know which things you have to do for another ending, sure you can look it up. But please wait, and you can always ask us for (spoiler free) hints😇 - One thing I’ll say about Godhome, there’s multiple Pantheons and they go up in difficulty (although we all probably have those ‘hard’ bosses we slay and some ‘easy’ bosses that slay US lol, we all have different playing styles too). Godhome also gives you the chance to practice every boss (that you’ve encountered at least once) seperately if you need to, remember that! It can save you LOADS of time, instead of going through a boss run just to practice the last boss omfg been there done that. - On the top-right side of Fog canyon, there’s a room with a useful little trinket (you went in once but couldn’t explore further). - Pay a short visit to the Blue Lake. - Visit Leg eater after getting the last unbreakable charm. - Optional quest, bring a delicate flower from the grave to Elderbug. People have mentioned there's someone else you can give it to which actually makes a difference but imho there's no need to worry about that yet. It was amazing to see your progress with this NKG fight. I had a very similar experience so it was really fun to watch! Going from "OKAY okayyyy... Sir, I just arrived!!" to figuring out the pattern, getting comfortable with your movement and then absolutely slaying him, you did so well😎 Remember that feeling if you encounter a new boss (variant) in Godhome that seems tough. Breaks are sometimes very necessary haha, but to go from ‘omg what is even happening why am I here’ to ‘this is a tough one but I know can do it’ is the best feeling!

I totally agree with you about Mister Mushroom and was actually considering saying the same thing to Amber in my comment. It's pretty hard to figure out without looking it up, and the reward is comparatively smaller for that effort, so I think it makes sense to just look the locations up if you want to see the resolution. The reason I didn't suggest it was simply because I think it might be good if Amber sees one or two more endings before she does that quest, and by not advising her to look up that quest, she's very unlikely to just coincidentally stumble on all the locations.

@@Ruminations09 I totally see your point! You actually convinced me to take that part out (she probably hasn't read it yet so), I'll keep it in my notes :P I thought 'but maybe if she doesn't do the other endings then she'll never get to see it' lol but now I realize that even IF she wouldn't, when she's close to ending the playthrough we could always suggest her to just get any ending so she can see the surprise. There's plenty of time I suppose :)

You did such an amazing job on Grimm. I loved seeing the progression from dying in a few seconds to practically mastering the fight! So glad to hear you're considering the Pantheon! Even if you ultimately decide not to it really shows how much you love the game if you're even just considering it. If you'd like some extra motivation, a well known speedrunner and KZbinr in the Hollow Knight community made a video that inspired me (and many others) to take on the Pantheon. It's actually what got me into Hollow Knight in the first place. The video is Fireb0rn's "GOD GAMERS - How Hollow Knight Players Defeated The "Unbeatable" Modded Boss". I would recommend watching it if you need some extra motivation to push to the end of the Pantheon, or once you're finished with the game, and don't mind spoilers regarding the Pantheon version of the game's final bosses. It's of course about a modified version of the boss but it personally made me super excited to take on the "real" version of it and it's a great video.

It can be a safe fight, but it is more enjoyable to be hyper aggressive like you did. Although there are not many points to heal, it is a fight that promotes dodging instead of getting hit. You took that to heart, as on your final attempt you only got hit 3 times. Great work.

Mister Mushroom is one of the more mysterious characters in the game, and it's thought that his little cryptic utterances are referring to Team Cherry's past games. IIRC The first game they coded together was during a code jam and it was called "Hungry Knight". He shows up in different places and if you find him everywhere something... interesting... happens. Mossbag - a (the) Hollow Knight lore guy - did a video on it.

amazing job on this fight! i noticed when you came back the next morning, there was a dramatic change in your play, you stopped doing all of the extraneous movements, and started sitting still a lot more instead of randomly throwing out dashes and jumps and stuff in a panic. definitely with this fight, less is more. it's a dance, you have to learn his dance and be able to respond with what the given attack demands, and burning your resources, like your jump, dash, etc. is the easiest way to get caught out. another thing, for this and other bosses, if you're ever put in a seemingly impossible situation (cough cough like the last boss) and shade cloak can't save you, descending dark gives you a remarkably large number of invincibility frames and can get you out of some very sticky situations. advice to any passers-by on the NGK fight if you ever try to beat it yourself, or you try to do it on ascended or radiant: less is more with the movement. learn the bare minimum movement you can do to dodge each attack and practice doing that. this fight is like the hardest normal fight, but then one of the easiest radiant fights (same with mantis lords), this is one of those fights that's like the same difficulty on attuned vs radiant because once you get it, it just clicks and you can do it hitless, assuming the basic execution skills are there.

Congrats! NKG is my favorite boss from the game, such a dance between the Knight and the boss! :) It's also a reminder of my favorite thing in Hollow Knight, that your effort always pays off. You'll start doing a boss and die before getting a hit in, then after a couple of hours you can beat it while barely getting hit. Big congrats! With the Path of Pain, this was, to me, the hardest fight of the game, excluding post-game content in the pantheons!

Secret best charm combo for this fight that is underrated: Deep Focus + Shape of Unn. Allows you to heal for 2-4 during his fire pillar and firebat attacks (you dodge underneath the bats) for only half the soul.

That was the first time I've seen the Kingsoul used for the NKG fight. Lmao. The fact that it was a viable strategy was a surprise to me. (The charm is kinda meme for "no one ever uses it". Joke on us, I guess)

The problem is you either have Kingsoul, or you have other charms. That 5-notch requirement eats a lot, and then you lose another 2 notches to the Grimmchild...

It was really cool to see you figure out your preferred way to set up the fire columns and your favorite places to attack! I haven’t beaten Nightmare King myself; I fought him a couple times in Pantheon training and didn’t get very far. I haven’t tuned out and I’m actually really excited to see you visit the birthplace! Also, when you visit the queen again, make sure you bring the grimchild too. I think she also might react to a couple of other charms… one of them is the smelly charm you got from the Dung Defender.

Just watch this whole series this last week. It’s been so fun to watch you discover every part of the game, it’s always a little sad when I watch a play through and someone misses something but you’re clearly a completionist which is very fun to watch. You’ve found most of the games hidden things but there are a few very hidden things that I don’t suspect you’ll find on your own. However, I Really don’t want to spoil anything for you that you may discover naturally. Scroll down a bit to see what I hope you’ll find and even further to see where they’re located. 1) The Vitruvian Grub 2) hidden Easter egg with messages from “another world” (donors on go fund me) 1) in the tower of love hidden in the roof of a hallway 2) in the resting grounds, the spirit glade, within the waterfall, on that top ledge at the top left you discovered in an earlier episode but didn’t know what it was there for, use your dream nail

As always its such a blast to see another episode! You did extremely well on NKG, easily one of the hardest bosses in the game, even counting the pantheon bosses. It kind of makes me sad that the playthrough is nearing its end (honestly you could "finish" the game next episode if you don't finish pantheon) but it also makes me look forward to the other games you'll play. Generally I skip through bossfights and other "boring" parts of the game to watch on other channels but your comments on everything happening and everything you're noticing is absolutely amazing. I've seen the entirety of The Outer Wilds already and generally wouldn't watch anyone play it again because "seen it once, seen it every time" but the amount of lore and worldbuilding you're picking up in all games you play can literally make ANY game enjoyable to watch. Have you thought about playing Undertale or Deltarune? I'm sure they are right up your alley and have some great story and memorable characters. Maybe Portal and Subnautica would be cool too but i'm not sure if you enjoy those kind of games.

Stay strong, youtube algorithm sux. The way they rate your top ten videos has more to do with video titles and thumbnails anyway, so definitely don't take any of that shit to heart. Loved watching every second, watching you adapt is reminding me of when I was first playing Hollow Knight and makes me wanna go back and run the whole thing again haha. The thing with his annoying fireball move, where you can do a big hop over the first little fireball, and then the third kinda goes over your head is something I remember feeling like a genius for figuring out lol.
