I came here for help and the first 30 seconds, he's ripping into my soul. I love our Cube
@SWAMPTTHING

The Cube has been a great car for my wife who has physical disabilities and our daughter. It has been a great car for operating expenses even when gas prices were at an all time high. Our 2009 (160,000 miles) and our 2014 (90,000 miles) are both running great and not falling apart like many other cars the same age. We have not seen transmission issues but that might be because we replaced fluids and filters once on both vehicles. If they made a 2023, version, it would certainly be welcome at our house. Blind spot visibility is the best. The space available inside has been very roomy and useful over the years. It is not a race car or a rocket sled on the interstate but is is the best car in congested city conditions for getting around which is 90% of the time. Both cars have been across the US a few times. To date, I have replaced oil, tires, coils, brakes, a couple of window motors and a back door lock mechanism on the 2009. Nothing but oil and tires on the 2014. The plastic interior parts on both cars are not crumbling like they did on my LE Titan. The upholstery is still very nice and if I get my wife a new car, I have no problem using either one as my work car and parking the truck. I agree that you either love it or hate it on the looks. It was very entertaining in 2009 when people in the community would just walk up randomly and comment on how ugly they thought the car was. LOL, it was like "thanks for the insult I guess?". Other than the anonymous internet, I have never seen any other situation where people have felt at liberty to spontaneously offer an insult to your new purchase. There were just as many that commented on how cute it was. My position as the household mechanic and and primary bread winner is that I thank the Lord we had both of these affordable and reliable cars for hauling projects, grand kids and wheelchairs with ease. We were so blessed to have these two Cubes during the years that Nissan met disaster and failure on so many other models with CVT failures. Somehow we were not a part of that pain. I think I will go watch your video now to see what you have to say and I certainly will go see if you have any Titan repair vids. My 200,000 mile gas hog FWD Titan LE looks like crap due to paint failure, smells like crap due to water leaks in the cab, leaks expensive overpriced fluids through seals that have already been replaced by a dealership, and sounds like crap until I find out what is the latest failing part in the suspension or drive train that might be creating the latest noise under my chassis. Thank you so much for your hard work and effort in creating these helpful video resources for all of us out here who need your help keeping our wheels rolling.

You're one of a kind who has not replaced the CVT most folks on their second.

@@HB-yq8gy he's not one of a kind. I'm also a two-cube owner who has never had to replace a CVT. The older of our two cubes is a 2010 currently at 183,xxx miles. We have had the CVT fluid changed every 30,000 miles. That counts for a lot, in our experience.

Another two-cube family! We also have been blessed with good luck and cheap running costs on our two cubes. We often talk about how easy it would be to put another one in the driveway if Nissan still made it. I keep hoping maybe they'll release a new one. I'd even be ok if they did a new EV version. I have 183k on the oldest cube, a 2010. Like you, I have a driver window that doesn't work 100% of the time (trying a new switch this week, have bookmarked a new motor if it comes to that) and a rear door lock gave up a couple years ago. Wiper motor needs replaced (have had the part for two years but just haven't got to it because the wipers haven't totally failed yet). Biggest issue I've had is water leakage into the cargo area of the 2010. I recently had the rear plastics off and removed the cabin pressure relief vents to reseal them, as well as making a silicone bead around the plastic trim on top of the taillights (where the water was getting in and eventually dripping down into the cabin pressure relief vents). So far so good. Too bad I didn't figure it out before the toolbox lid turned to mouldy, mushy particleboard. Currently planning to replace the now-missing lid with plastic, possibly a cheap cutting board or something, and a Dremel tool. So I'm glad to know we're not the only family that has been bitten by the cube bug twice! We think they're neat!

@@themanthemyththebanger I take that back to our daughter's brand new 09 Sentra same type of CVT we never replaced it by the grace of god maybe because of regular CVT drain & refill maintenance it lasted 210,000 miles and sold for $900 in 2021. During our ownership on 3 separate occasions, her Nissan Sentra went into limp mode on warmer weather work commutes. Specialty in Florida heat cvt hates heat it served its purpose. Lesson learn never again any type cvt as a vehicle. Maybe only ATV, motorcycle & snowmobile.

@@HB-yq8gy I think two things I'd do differently if I bought another CVT. One is I'd install an auxiliary transmission cooler to supplement the factory cooler. I went back and forth on this idea with our second cube but ultimately decided against it to preserve our powertrain warranty through those first two transmission services at 30k and 60k. Now that 2014 cube has 85k on it. So maybe at the 90k transmission service, I'll ask the transmission shop to install a cooler. Second, I would change the filters inside the transmission every other service, so every 60k. The older cube has developed a hesitation moving from low to high gear when cold, and I suspect the filters are probably very dirty. Those filters will be changed at my next transmission service at 210k, assuming it makes it that far. As of now it hasn't given me any other irregularities. This was a shortcoming of the factory service recommendation, which only asks you to drain and fill the transmission fluid every 30k. It really should have called for filter changes at least every other time. I think perspective is important as well. I can remember lots of notably terrible traditional automatic transmissions. Ford Tauruses used to blow transmissions before 100k unless religiously maintained and driven with care. The first two or three generations of Honda Odyssey were famed for "glass gearboxes" that liked to turn themselves into tiny shards seemingly at random. People like to act like Nissan is the worst ever and we need to go back to the good old days of geared automatics, but there's a lot of those good old days that maybe weren't so good as we'd like to remember. And I say that as someone who used to do a fair amount of lube service on various cars in my younger days, helping my dad with his mobile oil and lube business.

My wife loves her 2009 Nissan Cube Krom. She's 5" and the visibility for her is great. I've done all the work since she bought it. It is a really great little car. We're on the second engine rebuilt, that's how much we need to keep it. Since I'm Federally medically disabled I still am able to do nearly everything like complete brake jobs and such. In the snow here in Colorado Springs it does just fine. Keeping an eye out for a 2014 model. Thank you for the upload.

I disagree on the plugs. Do the plugs. Also checking the plugs will determine if the valve cover gasket is still working correctly and also by not changing the plugs they can get stuck inside and cost you more money later.
@themanthemyththebanger

Factory service recommendation is replace plugs at 120k and every 60k thereafter, so yeah, they're past due. That's why the dealership marked it.

I'm going to bet a careful ear might have heard the wheel cylinders squeaking when you back up and let off the brake pedal too. Definitely worth a clean. If I was gonna be in there I'd probably go ahead and do the rear brakes and wheel cylinders anyway. Not a lot of expense there.

You never showed how to fix the exhaust
@themanthemyththebanger
@themanthemyththebanger Жыл бұрын
That exhaust flange is a problem in tons of Nissan's smaller cars from this era. The cheapest long-term solution is to have a good exhaust shop remove the flange and replace it with a solid piece of exhaust pipe, welded in place. Have them hit the welds with some high-temperature spray paint like the stuff made for barbecue grills. It'll add a little bit of corrosion resistance so you don't have to repeat the repair for a few years, unless you drive on salty winter roads several months of the year.
