I like that the magnets are in the light so I can magnetically mount it to use hands free like the under the hood of a car.

Just picked up a Nitecore Tini.. only 350 Lumens but got a copper one for less than $30 (roughly $25 for standard) and much smaller. Great compact light to have on you at all times.

I have the original Tip and the lack of a lockout mode was a big deal because it constantly turned on in my pocket. I have had the Tip 2 for several months now and despite never using the demo mode I haven’t had it inadvertently turn on in my pocket. So I don’t see a strong need for a lockout. The only thing I dislike about the Tip 2 is the several seconds it takes to turn on the light, which is the trade off for not having it turn on in my pocket.

My biggest problem with this light is it’s lack of moisture resistance. No lockout is also problematic. I own two of the first edition and love the size, output levels and run time. Started wearing them on a neck chain to avoid unwanted activation in pocket, but when doing yard work, sweat was enough to disable it. Fix those 2 things and it’s well worth the cost.

I can live with the demo mode as a substitute for lockout but I hate that 3 second delay when you turn it on. They should give it a real lockout and get rid of the stupid delay.

I have a nitecore tip 2 flashlight ’ I bought it 2 years ago’. Build quality is a excellent’. Super reliable’ and useful’. I disagree with neck i I believe location of magnet is correct’. For example if you have a flat tire you can stick the flashlight to the body of vehicle and working hands frees’. If magnet location was on the cap you could loose this option’. This is the best flashlight I ever had’. Super reliable and I love that strong magnet’. Super bright’ Battrery life is good and I search a lot, there is no flashlight like this in the market’. The only problem with this flashlight is micro usb charging port’ I wish it was a usb C port’. I believe you nick ‘. You’re the best knife Expert’. But because I had this flashlight and used it. So I had to kind of disagree with you

The magnets were a good idea, perhaps implemented poorly. I EDC a TIP 1 and have attached a fishing net magnet to it and one to a carabiner. It goes on a outside belt loop. I can pull the light off easily and attach it back without looking. This has proven to be very beneficial for me. As I often have to crawl in tight spaces moving cable and whatnot. However with the TIP2 when I try to reattach the light back to the cap I have to be exact with it. It can easily misalign when reattaching, especially if you are doing it by feel. I had high hopes for the TIP 2, improved lumen output but sadly it does not function well (attaching / reattaching) for me. And yes I realize I am using in circumstances that most don't encounter. And no a headlamp does not work out as well for me. So I have a TiP 2 but don't EDC it.

I generally like having a disco mode. Not for tactical reasons, but for "hey, it's a dark street and you're a fast car don't hit me" reasons. Good for when you're not carrying a bike light.

12:59 I strongly suspect that Nitecore doesn't include a lockout mode in order to keep customers from returning lights as "broken" when they don't RTFM. A quick Google search shows that this is already true of the "demo mode" - people see the light turn off after 30 seconds, and they freak out because they think the light doesn't work.

Honestly I feel like a Rovy Von Aurora A1 is more than enough for peoples every day needs. That's around half the price of this one. If you need more lumens, and more features than that, I'd just go with a full size light and ditch the keychain stuff.

Nick, regarding comparing this form factor with the standard round tube w/replacable battery: I bought a similar MecArmy SGN5 which I liked initially. But after 18 months the battery has crapped out and I discover that the battery connection is soldered to the battery. (The battery is the size and shape of a nickle.) It is not user changable and the jeweler I took it to wanted no part of a redo. My question:. Is the battery on your review model replacable by the customer? If not, it's a disposable flashlight. It's a reasonable point buyers should want to know.

Nitecore can't figure out how to do a lockout without keeping the MCU active and draining the battery in a couple days, which the original TIP did. Open source hobbyists have figured that out, as have other manufacturers, but not Nitecore.

USB Port = non-replaceable battery. This means your flashlight is a disposable item. Just something to consider. Also, a charging port is an extra bit of electronics and therefore a potential point of failure.

The magnets are a deal breaker. If I seriously have to worry about not getting this thing to close to my wallet or watch, then I'm not going to buy it. I also don't like flashlights that do not have the ability to use either AA's or AAA's which you can buy at any store in the world. I do not use rechargeable batteries because if they run out when I am nowhere near a power source, the light is rendered useless. I will always have extra AA's and AAA's in my backpack, but I do not carry a gasoline powered generator in my backpack. If you use a flashlight everyday for your work and will remember to charge it during your off hours, then rechargeable batteries make sense, but if you only pick up a flashlight every now and then, they are terrible.
