Hi, Nord Wave 2, NS3, NL4 owner here. Great review! This is how it sounds in the hands of a very capable synthetist. I am tired of listening to the so called "players" using the same type of sounds over and over...Nord, please take notice. Once again, fantastic review!

@@조원준-h3fWould you specify what a corny sound is? Unlike other videos, I really like how the reviewer pushed the NW2 into a different territory REALTIME. I haven't seen anyone do this. NW2's sound engine is deceptively powerful and the ability to play samples, add your own via the sample editor, and run it through the synth engine is great and a breeze to use. I would also like to point out that if you are into the Roland Juno sound, the NW2's sound engine has reverse filter envelope and LP+HP dual filter algorithm that is crucial to emulate the Junos. The shortcomings are well presented by the reviewer. I hope that this answers your question.

@@PeacefulThinker1010 Thank you for your kind reply. As you said, I wanted to ask if the texture or power of sound like analog synth of nw2 lags a little bit compared to other synths such as moog and ob8. Since it's an instrument aimed at the performer, I thought it might be weak.

@@조원준-h3f I highly recommend you to try one in person. It does the regular "moogish" lead and bass sounds well, and also credible Oberheim pads. But if you are into analog, you might want to take the Sequential or the Behringer route if you haven't already.

I wish I found this channel earlier, I have a host that gears a whole raft of various synths geared towards my sort of music and how you can take something as old fashioned as a mellotron and make it sound beautiful. Also your interaction with the camera and speaking is just perfect.

WOW. This video just blew my mind. Synthesis, effects, filters, sequencer, arpeggio... The sound is superb actually!!! And what a great jam. What an incredible synth, unluckily so far from my budget for now I guess :/... What would you consider a low budget version of it, maybe a Blofeld? (With its limitations?) Thanks so much for sharing so much love for sound design and exploration, great inspiration, keep it up ;)

*I really love THAT Nord sound.* I use a Nord Stage 3 at work from time to time and have a Nord Rack 2X in my home studio. Whatever you play, it always sounds #NORD . Bold, but elegant. And never cheap. Well balanced and also unique. After being pretty disappointed with some Waldorf Iridium demos, I thought "let's hear some Clavia gems", but I didn't want to go Stage or Lead, so I typed in "Wave 2" and really enjoy what you did here.

Thanks for this video! I already own a Nord Drum 3P and love how easy it is to select and play with the sounds and I was looking into the Wave 2 … but I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of knobs when I saw it in the store. Now your video (and also the one by Cuckoo where he demos how easy and accessible everything is) confirms that I should really get one once I have the money. Also if you love a clever, playable design, you should look into the Norand Mono, it can produce weird sounds like a Make Noise O-Coast but has such a good interface where the LFO really really can control EVERY knob there is 😍

Yes using the wheel to modulate the delay and reverb as some have demonstrated looks like a good idea and sound effect. Listening to many of the current synth offerings, this seems like great addition to anyone's synth rig. It has a good variety of sound sources, wave table, digital "analog" wave shapes, and some sample memory (limited to 1 GB, not much but something). Reminds me of the Prophet X or even the Korg Wave State in its approach. Multi synths individual or stacked. Good voice count of 48 voices.

After giving a second watch ^^ I think that jam could be kinda done similar using a Digitone and a midi controller, couldnt it? Maybe just becouse of the FM sounds but I found certain similarities between both :) keep it up man! and thanks for sharing

Indeed, very beautiful sounding synth!!! I normally prefer analog, but the Wave2 comes very close, and you illustrate this very well, best demonstration I found on this synth. An analog synth with features like this would cost 2-3 times the price, even if the Nord does not come cheap! But the fact that you have a very nice piece of hardware also counts a lot for me. After all, a synth is for playing in the end, creating sounds and playing it's keys. So, what do you personally think about the keybed, if you like playing? Would appreciate your opinion...

Can you detune they layers to each other? This wasn't able on the A1 and it drove me nuts because you always had exact the same pitch on every oscillator model (out of detune model) which made multi layered sounds sound really annoying, chorus was not much of a help as it was to much of a sound mess when usinh chorus on all layers.

Love the patches you made in this video, great stuff for sure! I think if Nord came up with a firmware update that included scannable wavetables, more fm, more lfo routings, or a desktop version, thatd be way cool. As far as wavetables themselves, you can actually create a 'moving' wavetable in either waveedit, kterm, node, or serum, and export it as a .wav to the wave 2, and use sample editor to use it. Ive imported some fun custom wavebanks that are pretty nice this way. Unfortunately, as it stands, you still won't be able to change the rate or depth of the scan/wave position. So you wanna be sure its scanning how you want first. Good news is it doesn't take up as much sample memory as realistic instrument samples do. I was also glad to find and be able to get an external expander module, for a variety of lfo assignments, which Ive probably still only scratched the surface of. Very cool stuff esp when modifying effect levels. Another pretty fun mod inside the wave 2, though, that I like to do, is vectoring between layer volumes with aftertouch [my fave currently], or with velocity, modwheel or expression. Ive made a lot of patches with single cycle digital wavetable waveforms, where the layers crossfade based on that.

Being that you can’t really edit the samples in the Nord wave 2, are you able to do that in the stage 3?

"Impossible to make sound bad," often means difficult to make a distinctive or expressive sound with. The Nord wave series is the sonic equivalent of a technical drawing pen. Still really well made and useful, so it makes sense that it costs so much.

I'm on the verge of unloading mine, and this is an accurate description. It sounds good no matter what you do to it, but it's extremely limited in what it can do.

@@FatSynthDude I don't really agree. At first it seemed similar for me, but I think the key is to appreciate it for its key strengths in flexibility and playability - at a still extremly high quality level. Combining 4 kinds of synthesis on the fly in different layers with great effects and still being a playable synth is just impossible with most other synths (not really counting workstations). I quickly realized this when I was setting up some of my other more specialized synths (Behringer Model D, DeepMind, Hydrasynth, TX81Z, JV1010 and additional FX) at the rehearsal room with my mates - you quickly end up using only 1-2 synths, although you are damn sure, that some of the other synths would be much better for some part. The Wave 2 is not only the one synth that can pretty much replace most of them in just one unit it also offers a much more convenient access and in the end you get the similar or better results more quickly and consistently. Sure, once my setup with the more specialzed gear was done and I had a feeling what to use when and how to combine and layer efficiently it was also nice. But it always asks for work arounds and brings the danger of potential dead ends; it complicates MIDI routing and I have to keep in mind the channel when switching layers on my controller keyboard. With the Wave2 it's just one swiss army knive that can go from Rompler to FM to Virtual Analog and Wavetables or all at once while still having an easy way to controll everything. If I really want some distictive unique details that I can mostly only discern with headphones I wouldn't go for hardware anyways. In the end none of my gear can really compete with the depth of good plugins (Serum, Arturia emulators or Pigments, Vital) and raw compute power of a PC. Similar with samples: If I really want the best sound of an amazing piano or some orchestra I will use software).

@@Xul Sounds like you might like a Blofeld then. It can do all of the above, but with much more depth than the Wave. It's a bit more tedious to program because of how few knobs it has, but it rewards you with gobs of programming possibilities.

@@FatSynthDude Well, I *have* a Blofeld ;) but it basically never leaves my home because it is just a nightmare to program. Would you really use this thing for jamming with friends instead of a Wave2? Maybe it is just a difference in musical styles? I'm more into prog-rock, melodic death or post-rock - so naturally a "playable" synth does appeal a bit more to me. The Blofeld really sounds nice and is - as you mentioned - really deep (though the samples there are also not much more than a nice gimmick to expand sound, they are not even close to the quality of let's say Symphobia strings on the Wave2). But I really don't see my band mates appreciating 15 Minutes of knob twisting and menu diving just to make some pad-layered EP for a dumb intro or some 'unique' lead sound that will just lose all "depth" in the mix anyways ;) When it comes to WT synthesis I nowadays rather use my Hydrasynth it just is much quicker, easier and offers even more depth. And if I *really* want to go experimenting I rather use Pigments or Vital - also easier to use and way more options with better visual feedback. If it weren't for some unique and nice sounds and its small footprint I already would have sold my Blofeld. It seems that with "depth" people mostly refer to complex modulation routings which is somthing I'd only deal with when fiddling around for hours at home. This area is of course much deeper in the Blofeld (let alone the Hydra, which is just insane). But I'd argue that there also lies some "depth" in being able to create complex layered patches with FX and deep "morphing" assignments. Just thinking about recreating some of my 4-layer Wave2 patches (with expression pedal routings, and different FX on the layers) on a Blofeld would give me headaches ;D

Also, you know you can change the samples on the Blofeld, right? And then you can FM and oscillator sync those samples, something the Nord Wave can't even dream of doing.
