*TNF Hedgehog Futurelight* - bit.ly/2RH7hcK The Hedgehogs are our classic, tried and tested hiking boots built for versatility and comfort. For this new iteration, we've harnessed breathable FUTURELIGHT™ technology for the membrane.

Hedgehogs are really comfortable but their durability and waterproofness is absolutely DIRE! leaked like crazy, and the mesh started to fall apart after 6-9 months. 2 years on and every panel of mesh has got rips in it. It's like the stuff is dissolving.

Agree - I bought a pair, the rest of the boot is still in good condition apart from wear in the sole but the mesh across the toes completely degraded and fell apart leaving big holes. North Face messed up with the design of this mesh which seems to degrade as it flexes, I have other different boots from them which are 3 years older and still going strong.

Went for a decent hike through some not so dry conditions, found my feet soaking wet after a few hours, not sure if it's the foot sweat or just generally poor waterproofing.

I got these for spring, summer and fall. I got Keens for winter. I feel any mesh boot will never be completely waterproof

I've just bought a pair of these however, after a few minutes of walking the side of the boot rubbing against my left ankle really begins to cause me quite a bit of pain and discomfort. I'd like to think that I'm pretty simetrical, but I've got no such issue with this on my right foot. I've never had any problems like this with other boots and they are extremely plush and cushioned which is why I'm so confused at why they hurt my left ankle so much. Is this purely a matter of breaking in the boots more, or is there something wrong with me/the boot. If anyone has any tips or helpers I'd really appreciate it

The same thing happened to me in my left foot, a lot of discomfort but with. salomon x ultra 4 mid, sadly for me :( I loved the shoes, they are very beautiful.

Absolutely doesn't work under rain, especially on city streets. Sidewalks become a skating ring in an instant and you can seriously hurt yourself with a few steps, however careful. Casual users beware. Also mesh doesn't seem to be all that sturdy, given a few weeks of casual city strolling already seem to have damaged it in places. If these fall apart about as quick as I expect them too, I'm definitely going with poor quality product here.

thanks for ll the explanation. i got a question, im about to purchase a hiking paair, but i just cant decide wich pair to get. Important info: i will do the Salkantay trek in Cusco-Peru 5d+4n in several escenarios, mountain, going through snow, jungle and finally machupicchu. On one hand i got the Merrel MOAB 2 MID waterprof but as i was reading the reviews it has a terrible grip when it faces wet surfaces and you can easily hurt yourself. In the other hand i got this ones the north hace hedgehog futurelight, wich seems to be a better call. it would be so helptull if you could answer me. and again, thank you 4 all the info!

So not true regarding breathability. The previous gen hedgehog were fantastic. The best pair of boots I’ve had. However these new version just made my feet sweat so bad that my socks were soaking wet after a few hours of walking. The membrane doesn’t work. Bring back Gore-Tex.

Anywhere you can still get the old gen? I don't really want to settle for these? Or a similarly priced trekking boot from a different brand

Sock selection is critical with this membrane, as well as with gtx, and they are not the same. With gtx, I wear a light merino smartwool, whereas anything heavier and my feet burn up. However, with the NFfl, I wear a heavy 70-80% wool sock and it allows time for the membrane to work, as it should. And yes, I just made all of that up! But I love these boots! And I also love my Adidas Terrex Swift R3 gtx’s as well! High quality wool socks, are vital!!

Really poor boot, not waterproof at all, the mesh tears easily on the toebox, and the sole can start coming away from the shoe as soon as after one year after purchase. Are you sure you even tested this shoe?
