Ever since streaming services became the default way for people to watch tv and movies from the comfort of their homes, cable TV has been on life support. While online streaming is overall much better for the consumer, as someone who grew up with cable, I low key kinda miss it. There were a few positives that cable has over the modern streaming era, and as time goes on, we find that streaming is going back to becoming cable again. From commercial breaks, primitive on demand services, programming blocks, and more, these are the things that make me nostalgic for cable TV. #nostalgia

I remember when the Avatar the last Airbender finale episodes aired and my entire day was focused on getting ready for the premiere. There's definitely something lost when you can just watch it as it airs on your phone anywhere there's service

Feels weird to have some guy Explain my childhood at me while making the same references and jokes that either I make or from content creators I watch. Instantly felt at home.

Man, I remember the premiere of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. All the commercials leading up to it were so surreal at the time

I feel like streaming makes it hard for me to get into new shows nowadays, mostly just cuz of the overabundance of content. I find myself just using streaming services just to watch old shows that I never experienced or have always wanted to see(ever since the pandemic I've been watching a bunch of 2000s animated shows). And with how shows keep getting cancelled left and right, i feel like most people just wanna watch shows that are already finished.

My favorite thing about cable channels back in the "old days" (lol) are the various crossover bumpers/promos that would air during commercials that involved characters from different shows interacting with each other. I remember Kids WB and Cartoon Network doing this a lot with their Warner studio lot and CN city locations respectively (and it seems the people at Paramount Plus shares the same sentiment as their commercials involve the same thing).

As far as favorite parts of pre-streaming TV, there was this one commercial that I really liked from the early 2000s or late 90s that was promo for the Fox channel. I have not been able to find it in all these years on here. It had this song: 🎶Be a Fox Watcher🎶 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶 (Bart Running Down the stairs escaping Homer, Indiana Jones Boulder style) 🎶Become one now🎶 🎶The Nanny @ 6pm🎶 🎶Drew Carrey @ 6:30pm🎶 🎶The Nanny again @ 7pm🎶 🎶AND THE SIMPSONS @ 7:300000000000!!!!!!!🎶 and some local station tag stuff Also the KiaFest Maniac commercial was pretty iconic from that time period I think

i have distinct childhood memories of finding code lyoko and fma brotherhood on cable and deciding to watch them. i dont remember what episode of code lyoko i saw that first time, but for brotherhood it was the chimera episode and it still lives rent free in my mind against my will. code lyoko changed my life for the better, tho, because my humming of the theme song at school led to a kid befriending me and that was how i found my school friend group.

It makes me miss my childhood ever so slightly. Saturday morning cartoons and multiple bowls of cereal were the best. Commercials were a time to go to the bathroom and refill the cereal bowl. Other than that fk commercials

We didn't even HAVE cable growing up in the 90s. I think I watched my first Simpsons episode in like 2005. The first I remember seeing was either Natural Born Kissers or Future-Drama.

1:59 (TV Guide+) Also don't forget your local newspapers as well included what was on for that week. Those usually contained the TV schedule for either the day or the entire week. I think the tv schedule for the entire week arrived in the Sunday or Saturday paper. I think this thing might've been around in the 90s or so. But i recall personally seeing this kind of thing circa the early 2000s as a thing, existing at the exact same time as the Guide Channel and TVGuide. I don't think the newspaper included everything, I think it mainly contained the local channels you'd get without cable and the basic cable package channels. I don't know if it would've contained something like HBO or Showtime. You might have to consult someone else familiar with that era or maybe talk to your local library to see if they have a database for local papers circa the 2000s or something and see if this kind of stuff was there. But I'm assuming this is more a surface level kind of curiosity thing and you probably don't really want to go all that deep for this kind of topic. Just throwing out a possible suggestion just in case. I don't think i've tried this kind of thing myself, mostly just guessing.

6:36 (ads don't have the same flavor today) i was just thinking about this kind of thing watching some old school ads. and it made me wonder why that is. Maybe its a combination of us getting older and longing for childhood and the highlight points of the good sections as well as some other factors. I think the main thing might be becasue, maybe they decided to cut down on the creativity and the budget that 2000s and the pre-streaming era might've had. And maybe they're not putting as much creative effort into the writing of the ads that we see now adays. Also maybe becasue everyone isn't as centralized into broadcast or cable, things are spread out way further now to the internet and all these different platforms. And somehow as a result have to create something blander or safer or something like that....I think i lost my train of thought here.

I think cabke is superior for finding new shows. Some times so random cartoon channel was all you had and youd find your new favorite shows.

As a Zillenial this entire video was a kick to the face but 15:30 got me. I used to be so excited for Code Lyoko on Cartoon Network after school and I was so scared of accidentally missing it that I would sit through the episode of Totally Spies that would come on before it. I didn't even like Totally Spies. I couldn't tell you a single thing about it. But it was the one thing standing between me and the only thing keeping fourth grade me excited for 5:30pm every weeknight.
